I enjoyed your "little review" so much and I agree completly! It was a night to remember. Unfortunatly my English is a little rusty so it is difficult for me to put my thoughts in the right words...
Espacially the darkness was a little annoying. but this production is about 15 years old. And those seem to have been "darker times" :)
Jonas Kaufmann was great. I like his dark timbre very much and he is a gorgeous actor. He gave Carlos such a presence on stage .
Posa (Boaz Daniel) has promise, but he was a last minute substitute and perhaps had not enough time to prepare all the nuances. Verdi baritones are rarissimi today.
I also was very impressed with the singers in this production. I think Carlo is given much more presence by Kaufmann than most tenors can manage in this role--just getting better all the time. Harteros is a lyric, not a spinto, so some of the music was challenging for her, but she acquitted herself well. Pape is in the music, but without the majesty yet of a Furlanetto in his prime. Halvarson was impressive, but the blocking for his scene was lacking. Smirnova improved. Auto da fe thrilling!
@sospello We agree on everything - I didn't know about Boaz Daniel, and would never have made any negative comment on his singing if I had. He does have promise - he can totally sing over the orchestra. In some ways Pape just seems to be going through the motions in these latest productions . . . maybe if I sang that well I would too.
@Addiobelpassato Thank you dear Addi - am getting ready for my day and now I have to do my exercises for physical therapy - ugh! Another chore but maybe it will improve my back problems. I will listen this evening :)) Hugs to you!
@allavan100 Yup - that's me- opera fan supreme! Hey someone has to buy the tickets. yesterday was a present - a free presentation of one of the greatest operas of all time, with a dream cast, in a beautiful house. Cosutmes - gorgeous - check. Orchestra, chorus, fabulous - check. What you now expect from modern productions - dark, dark, and more dark - and let's not forget - spare - check.

Thank you very much. Please have a look on my channel. I uploaded a "poor" Met production of Don Carlo from 1970.
