This is truly a marvel of gaming. 6k square kilometers and damn near endless quests make for a very complete game. Make a game with this level of graphics today and no doubt you can create an area at least 10 times the content with probably 100 times the area. Hell just make the entire world explorable. From High Rock to Black Marsh. Atmora to Akavir.

@rayba47 It's a while since I have played Daggerfall but I've got to say that I'd rather play this than Morrowind or Oblivion. Anyways, the graphics are very nostalgic, there's a whole lot of cities, quests, stuff to do. My main complaint is that it is somewhat buggy too and it's a creepy game. I always freak out when there's a pixely thing behind me, creeping. But I guess that's one of the pros that makes it so good game :D

I think the elder scrolls were really behind on grapics untill obilvion was released because arena had duke nukem graphics and arena was released 3 years after DN also that morrowind had worse graphics than halo 1 which hLo came out first get my point

@Samuli385 Are you using a DOS emulator or just Windows? It doesn't work on Windows/Mac, but you can download DOSBox if you have Windows or Boxer if you have Mac.

@jzwief under every NT-System (2000 and later) you should use an emulator, but there is a mod called DaggerfallSetup wich installs Daggerfall just like other games. you don't have to configure dosbox manually (The game still runs under DosBox)

Quick calculation gives: (25cm=) 250mm * 42 provinces * 45 mins = 472 500 mins = 7875 h = 328.125 days ~ 11 months. That's the time to get across the whole map :)

When I first tried this game this summer, I was awestruck by it's vastness.

After I got out of the tutorial dungeon I checked my map and looked up where I was and where the nearest town is and then I headed there by foot.

I was able to run like 45min (yes I rested couple of times because of the stamina loss) to the towns direction before I got bored

and then I looked at my map and noticed that I had only moved a ONE tiny dot on the screen (=1mm on the map of the Daggerfall province). It's huge!

Yes, daggerfall really is that big. You're not supposed to visit ALL locations in the game, the amount just gives you practically infinite variety and freedom of choice while playing. Only problem is almost all locations are randomly generated.

Im trying to play this game now, the problem is that my character is a mage so the enemies usually kill me in 3-5 hits and I hate when I am going to do a L turn in a corridor only to bump on a monster and jump from my chair :p. Also I hate when I start hearing the moans from skeletons without knowing where they are and get anxious at every corridor turn or door. Im phailing at this game lol

wich was the better elderscroll? it all depends on where you got into the series really. just like some say Final fantasy 5 was better than 7 and others adore 10.

if you type install daggerfall with dosbox in google look for a site and inside it theres an alternate link with an alredy configured daggerfall. All u have to do is double click the .exe and its just like installing an application

Of course, when Infinity is released far in the future, it will easily beat Daggerfall in terms of volume, simulating an entire galaxy and it's 200 billion star systems.

Unlike modern games, where I would say 'give it 20 minutes', with older games like Daggerfall, I would say you have to give it a couple of hours. There is so much to it, and so much to do it can be confusing. The manual and FAQs are out there and I would definitely get them - and read them! Also, go into Options and choose Controls, then choose mouse and choose mouse view. Better yet, go into the Z.cfg file and change betaplyr to viewplyr to give you Oblivion style keys, mouse look and UI!

Of course I had to try this game out, since it was released as freeware. Some of the dungeons can be extremely tricky, but eventually you'll find whatever you came for. Some of the stuff in main quest dungeons (mandatory levers & combinations and secret doors) are a bit confusing, but at least there are spoilers for those if one gets stuck. Good game

I think the main thing in this game is no matter what u do at least create a char that pretty resistance to spells. Spells in this game are deadly.
