Did he just say he can live forever and he thinks he can be god because he's rich enough. That's what I got from this... I agreed with just about everything until that part at the end which seems slightly delusional.
@MrGiggity890 No, No, No!!!! I know what people express about their character by what they say... he has a fear of death and a desire to be god. Not good character traits, attributes of the devil himself.
This is the longest interview with Doug Casey that I've seen...he's a clear-headed thinker, and looks forward to the future as a technological marvel.
He mentioned "supercycle" at 9:09. I assume that is an elliot wave reference, but I thought Casey wasn't into technical analysis, particularly in such a voodoo-ish form.
The idea that the rich would have their lives extended and enhanced while the rest of humanity withers and dies is terrible. I doubt humanity would tolerate it. The 99% of the world that would not have access to this biotechnology would revolt. I don't know if a revoilution would be successful, though. The future looks bleak.
Nation states work, but only if immigration is tightly regulated. Out of control immigration destroys nation states. Look at the United States. It's become an immigration toilet.

I also agree with him that there should be a reward if you have responsibly accumulated your wealth. If you choose to not be charitable with your wealth and keep it for that possible future technology of immortality, then that is your choice. You should have the freedom to do whatever the hell you want with your wealth as long as you aren't harming anyone.
An unregulated free market would still be policed. You cannot kill me or burn down my competing business without consequences. This is definitely a utopian view because the wealthy would still be able to compromise the accepted policing authority, but this is exactly why he talks about national governments being a bad thing. I agree. I think smaller communities, would govern themselves fine and would leave room for people to leave and find communities they are happy with.
"accumulation of capital through overproductivity"
This makes complete sense to me. I don't understand the confusion you are having with this. If I make 100 dollars a week, and my expenses for survival are 90 dollars a week, then I have accumulated 10 dollars of capital. Have I not? I mean, it would be stupid of me to demand from my employer only what is required for my survival, right? Especially if he desires, and is able, to pay me more?
What a truly bleak world this guy presents, unless you are wealthy of course, and they are the only one's who deserve it. I do not want to live in his world...
He doesn't believe the Government has a right to exist? What planet is this guy on??? Then just how does he think a Government exists at all? Maybe something to do with just about everyone wanting it, because the alternatives are just too horrendous to contemplate. All I have heard from him is what "I" want, and anything that serves that is ok by him. Heaven preserve us from people like him!...
"I'll do anything if the price is right". There you are. No consideration of social consequences. Money is the motivation, so what chance for social welfare? It comes down to this. Does he, or do you for that matter, care about social welfare, that is the individual circumstances of every individual. If you don't care, then let them die. If you do, what do you want to do about it? This guy doesn't give a toss...
@27july1954 when quoting ("") make sure you repeat exact words - otherwise it's a lie. If that's quoting taught by your marxist teacher - well, I'm not surprised, yet still disgusted.
@grraadd, how pedantic of you. While strictly correct (that quotes should be exact), to claim that it is a lie is just puerile and shallow. Was that not the substance and meaning of what he said? So it is more important to criticise details than debate substance? You think I am a Marxist? No wonder we are in trouble. I'm sorry for you...
@27july1954@27july1954 Profit is a signal to a person that they are delivering what other people want. People that influence the profit signal the most are the ones with the most money. People with the most money are ones that have delivered what other people want.
It's seems to be Doug Casey is improving our social welfare...
He built a Venezuelan village and is fixing up rotting Egyptian apartments!
What these 'Free Market' advocates seem not to address is why we have rejected their philosophy. The ultimate unregulated free market is what used to be, and folks then saw that the result is exploitation; financial anarchy. Consequently, societies have implemented regulation in order to try and moderate the anti-social consequences (one of the purposes of democracy). These guys want us to go back to all that shite?
hands down the best Doug Casey interview Ive yet seen - i havent seen many but i have seen a few including one billed as his best ever interview not so long ago - but this is at a whole new level. AWESOME!
Doug Casey probably reads too many science fiction books. I like to remind people that technology is not an energy source & there will be a couple of problems/predicaments in this area e.g. uranium, coal & oil. There is 10 calories of hydrocarbon energy in every 1 calorie of food consumed that was produced using modern mechanized agriculture. There are also issues with fresh water, top soil erosion, increase in urbanization etc. I can't imagine the future getting better.

43:00 As interesting at it may seem, I just don't see new nation groups forming around personal beliefs or interests. Most people don't have the wherewithal to move to a new country, learn a new language and hope to make it. That would be limited to a few really motivated people, and I doubt the old nation groups will quietly shuffle off into oblivion without a fight?
