Fade is a hidden script in the main game folder that reacts when the game executable is changed, i used hide on the main arma 2 folder, then unhided it and found the file caled FADE.vbs - not sure what vbs means, but since i was getting this crap i deleted it and now it works fine. Arma2 Operation Arrowhead is $20 on steam, regardless of region you're in. Just buy it from there. The developers are really nice and the games themselves are superbly solid.

I honestly think they did this as a joke to fuck with pirates, however, some places I hear have already figured out how to get passed it. But this is a good start in the stopping of game pirates.

@yappers4 Not really, when I pirate games/addons I dont usually buy them after that if they work well. I do support smaller gamemakers like Bohemia Interactive that actually do not see their games only as moneymakers but actually care about their customers and do not drop support of their games after few years when its not selling well anymore like EA for example does, and thats why I never pirate any games of those companies that have showed me to respect me as customer.

Well honestly the reason I bought ARMA Combined Ops is ARMA 2 Free Edition :P Point being that many people want a sort of demo on their products, and not those crappy demos that cut you off after 5 minutes of playtime. @dvdk87 Ring them up, sit on hold for 300 hours, or do a complete system wipe because once your computer is flagged it sits in your registry hiding and will trigger even with an uninstall for most cases, happened with battlefield 2142 which I legally bought. I had to pirate a game I bought just for it to work, and I had less problems with the illegal version then the game I payed $70 for.
This game does not deserve to get cracked, everyone should buy this one. With crap games lice C.O.D MW I agree, but this game really kicks ass on a good PC. Far better then the kiddy game / arcade shooter C.O.D that has zero tactics and strategy... and where sniping is called "camping" in C.O.D online.
And don't forget about the great editor and the active modding community!

I have this shit problem when i install 1.05 patch .. from 20 meters i aim on a fuckign guy with M 16 and the bullet hits a nearby tree .. is there any way to fix this shit?
I used a .50 cal. BMG M107 on a target only 300 meters away, and it missed every fucking time. Don't say I don't know how to snipe, because I do. I know when and where you are supposed to elevate the sniper rifle so It would be a direct hit. I don't play CoD and shit like that because the gun physics are fake.

I started up arma2 and created a non-ded server. I then loaded up the copy again (game running twice on same comp) and I tried to join my server and it said cdkey in use and "Remember: illegal copies may activate fade". I hope I didn't activate fade, did I?

It's certainly funny but it could be pretty damn detrimental to their sales. If the latest economic studies on the effects of piracy upon sales are correct then piracy actually has a positive effect upon sales for big name bands. By extension one might think that it'd have a positive effect upon the sales of a big name games like Arma, but if people play this and don't realise FADE is bugging them out they'll just think it's a shoddy game and avoid both it and the parent company.
yeah, FADE was a really good idea because people could check out the game, but still have a good reason to buy a legit copy. Sadly i dont think most people even know what FADE is.

If a pirate likes a game and thinks the price is reasonable (and can afford it) there is a very good chance s/he will buy it. FADE "copy protection" does nothing more than alienate the player and fill all experiences of the game with "that boring shit that didn't work." Even though a player knows of FADE, they will still relate the game to bad gaming experiences, and will be disinclined to ever buy it.

@BGH122 There's the option to wait for a demo, although in the case of Take On Helicopters that is unfortunately post-release, while ARMA 2: Free is way, WAY after the game's release.
The crack does not trigger Fade, but using a incorrect serial does. Trying to get hold of this game is a bitch, the supplier is out of copies. ETA is not until beginning of next month.
I think it´s great they´re up front about it. The studio that made Titan Quest kept it a secret, and then wondered why people were talking shit about the "buggy" game over the net.

not once did i have this reduced accuracy or bluring screen with random of-game sounds to annoy you into buying it.

I started up arma2 and created a non-ded server. I then loaded up the copy again (game running twice on same comp) and I tried to join my server and it said cdkey in use and "Remember: illegal copies may activate fade". I hope I didn't activate fade, did I?

yes, but I heard it can activate because of bugs.

Not that I know of, if your cdkey is in use, bring it back to where you got it and get another, because someone who worked there probably nabbed it.
either that or email Bohemia, with pictures of your case and stuff and they will just give you a new one.
Other than that, you should have a problem.

no, what I said was i loaded it twice on the same computer to test a script. What I was wondering was whether this might have activated fade and i've checked the rpt and so far it hasn't activated so I think it didn't right now.

But the bad thing is that you can disable fade... even with the patches.. nowadays everything can be "cracked".. it's really sad

It's certainly funny but it could be pretty damn detrimental to their sales. If the latest economic studies on the effects of piracy upon sales are correct then piracy actually has a positive effect upon sales for big name bands. By extension one might think that it'd have a positive effect upon the sales of a big name games like Arma, but if people play this and don't realise FADE is bugging them out they'll just think it's a shoddy game and avoid both it and the parent company.

yeah, FADE was a really good idea because people could check out the game, but still have a good reason to buy a legit copy. Sadly i dont think most people even know what FADE is.

I enjoyed the game so I bought it. It's just damn lucky I knew about FADE from my piracy sites like RLSLOG etc, had I not known that the game was deliberately glitchy with graphics and aim etc I'd have just thought 'oh crud here's another uselessly designed game'. Really silly system in my eyes.

@BGH122 you can play the game still and see how it is, but if you were going to buy it you wouldn't want to keep it for as long as it takes for fade to kick in.

@BGH122 Hah, that's just a statistic people who pirate software loooooove to cite. I'd rather be playing with less people who payed for the game than a bunch of sh**stains who were too cheap so they stole from a small cz company. What people who don't pay for games are STEALING, they just protect themselves by saying "I'm helping the company!" At least BIS has come out with a decent, non-invasive way to protect it's game. Are you going to call out Wal-Mart for hiring a security guard?

@BGH122 Psychologically, FADE is a shockingly _terrible_ idea. Pirates are potential sales. If a pirate likes a game and thinks the price is reasonable (and can afford it) there is a very good chance s/he will buy it. FADE "copy protection" does nothing more than alienate the player and fill all experiences of the game with "that boring shit that didn't work." Even though a player knows of FADE, they will still relate the game to bad gaming experiences, and will be disinclined to ever buy it.

@Ringwaul Yup, agreed. It's a deeply flawed idea. I understand that it'd be pretty hilarious as a games designer to think "We're getting one over on the pirates!", but the real objective should be to convert the pirates to paying customers. Sadly, there's a popular opinion that "HERP DERP PUIRETS RNT COSTUMERS!111", which is untrue; many pirates are trying the 'play before you (can afford to) buy' policy and will never fall into the latter group if they experience things like FADE.

@BGH122 exactly dude, I ran into FADE while trying the game out. and without even knowing it, I assumed the game was a piece of crap that lagged and had horrible weapons. canceled any plans I made to buy the game right then and there. who woulda thought?!

@BGH122 There's the option to wait for a demo, although in the case of Take On Helicopters that is unfortunately post-release, while ARMA 2: Free is way, WAY after the game's release.

The crack does not trigger Fade, but using a incorrect serial does. Trying to get hold of this game is a bitch, the supplier is out of copies. ETA is not until beginning of next month.

you are wrong :) fade just checks the exe file (and other files) it doesnt bother your serial.

I think it´s great they´re up front about it. The studio that made Titan Quest kept it a secret, and then wondered why people were talking shit about the "buggy" game over the net.
