Staring up at Heaven all day as Choping watches you playing Chopin will give any pianist a strained look. Good too see this, I have never seen a young Kissin and try to avoid the adult, he's simply impossible to watch.
His expressions, his looks, and even his hair style didn't change. However, the biggest deal that he was, is, and will always be a real pianist. May you always inspire us Kissin <3 !
damn... never heard someone playing this piece better then him.... would like to watch an actual recording of him (this playing of cours)... if someone got it please post me that link .. thx...
There is nothing more inspiring for me to practice playing piano than listening/watching a young Evgeny Kissin. I guess the thought process works like this: Hearing/Watching Rubinstein/Horowitz/Arrau/Argerich/etc makes me think I still have time to get great because they are considerable older than me. But these young Kissin videos show me that he is so far beyond me and so many years younger. When I get good I'm going to thank Kissin.
@QueersNFags6000 "QueersNFags6000" you are hilarious and brilliant for that comment!! I say the same thing and I have Master's from Juilliard. You truly made my day with that comment. :)
His looks are quite a powerful distraction from the music, should have given live concerts behind a partition, so the people could only hear him, not see him, tthat would have thrilled the audiences. Anyway, this is an interpretive bear, the big names making fools of themselves all over the UTube, but this kid stays out of trouble, for the most part.
It's funny this "the best!, the greatest!, the super!, etc" thing american culture loves to care about. He is great in his own way. That's enough to me.
@stagesix6 I fully agree. America could be more productive. Folks seem to love labels & awards/accolades @ the expense of pure artistry. It is an extremely "visual" society, to say the least!
Too bad Kissin isn't as good as he used to be once. I've been to his recital last year in the Concertgebouw concert hall last year - I wasn't impressed too much.
He is a great pianist, no doubt. One of the best in the world, no doubt. It just seems that his recordings of when he's young are so much better than his newer ones.

@tigertolyy I agree with the looks part (he's so cute here!), but please check out his rendition of La Campanella before saying the 2nd part of the sentence... :<
The young Kissin must be mentioned in the same breath as Mozart, Korngold, Josef Hoffman and several other child prodigies; this and his performances of the Chopin Concertos at age 12 are among the musical marvels of all time. Many thanks for sharing this treasure; more young Kissin, please!
You wanted to compare Kissin with only 12 years with Tatum, in reality you do not know what she says, this boy today you are a phenomenon, a true virtuous musician.
Why do some people think it clever to trot out the name of some other artist as a cheap way of rubbishing the present one? Tatum was an extraordinary pianist of genius, but this in no way diminishes the greatness of the young Kissin, a child prodigy in every sense of the word. His legendary performances of the Chopin Piano Concertos at the age of 12 are among the best available.
What a treat to see a video of Kissin this far back! Well, let's see, he must be 12 or 13 here. The youngest performance of his i have ever seen on YouTube was at 15 years old. Of course he always had incredible raw talent, but it is clear to see how much further he has come: mature, polished, passionate, convincing.
Now this is playing with emotion. So many musicians claim to play with emotion, but you can't really hear it that much, you don't feel it. This makes me feel what he feels.
most musicians like lang lang pretend to play with emotion because they know they don't FEEL the music but evgeny truly can feel the music and express and interpret it
i don't really see why lang lang has to be brought up...
i also think that just because one person doesn't feel what a musician is expressing, it doesn't mean that there's no expression. i might not like one musician's interpretation, but it doesn't mean i think they're crap...
Son son est pur, selon moi il jout avec beaucoup d'authentisité et sans flafla.Son interprétation est tres intelligente,c'est la meilleur que j'ai entendu, je la recommande a tous.
What an awful definition of perfection. Without musicality, "perfection" means nothing. As a performer, I hope I never reach something I perceive as perfect, because then I can't aim for something better.
