@timewind76 I must say that I think this version is better than on the Live in London. However, what a fantastic record! the version of Soap Shop Opera is hauntingly powerful!
Ok now I understand, It's the instrument. I have seen many bassists using that same Orange amp/cab used in this video, but they don't have that deep/warm/fat bass tone...so it must be the vintage Jazz Bass (pickups/capacitors).
i don know why i find the guitar melodies on PHALLUS DEI to be darker and scarier than Black Sabbath... luzifers ghilom and kanaan... its better than havin any drug even!
I love the version on "Yeti" but this live one is even better - far more aggressive and visceral. Wish I'd been old enough to catch them live back in their heyday.
i always thot they sang in german bcuz there from there. infact most amon duul songs are sung in german. for the exception of "wolf city" and prob others that have lyrics in english.
I'm from Germany and I can't recognise German words. I can just understand some English words. But maybe balchoth is right and it's some kind of mixture. It's really hard to understand because the music's quite loud.
I don't know that much from Amon Düül II but are you sure they nearly always sang in German? All of the tracks on Yeti are in English afaik.
@ZosoDazed "Today they [i.e., the Jesuits] are stronger in the United States than they ever were in any of the countries of Europe which expelled them as a menace to the government." (1912)

@ZosoDazed "Eight years before the attempted [Spanish] Armada invasion [of 1588], Jesuits were seditiously active plotting the overthrow of the English government. By using different disguises, aliases, and secret codes, to illegally slip in and out of England, Jesuit Robert Parson, in 1580, had led and then later organized a mission to bring other Jesuits into England to engage in a work of subversion.

the live versions brake down is so much better then the album version. the bass lines are so sweet. but i do miss the crazy distorted vocals from the album version.
I have yet to come across a band that can improvise better than Amon Duul II

@ZosoDazed here's what i could get after listening to the Live in london recording:
over the air, under the sea, above the sky, between the trees
beyond the street, in the middle of the new moonrise
it's flying now- the nocturnal beast
as a child i used to go to the churches of (?) dreams
but now i know i have to see my (?) dreams
(?) don't ride again
empty ariser, you were a (?)
That's all I could get, but at least its something!

Amon Düül II is a brilliant band, unfortunately quite under-rated. This track is just pure power and energy from their album Yeti.
