Why the hell is a white trombonist singing the patois parts?
The best version of this song was the live version when Coolie Ranx was in the band, although it would probably be hard to get a copy of that nowadays.
What "two tone" are you talking about? The "two tone" where you go to every ska show, and every kid in the audience is white?
I don't know where you see this supposed racism, but all I said was the patois part sound better with Coolie Ranx singing it. If you'd seen the band in the mid-90s with Coolie singing, you'd know what I'm talking about.
And you are the stupid fuck who mistakes a preference for a Jamaican singer performing a part WRITTEN BY and FOR a Jamaican singer as racism.
If you cannot tell the difference between a patois-speaking Jamaican and a white man putting on a Jamaican accent, then perhaps you should go listen to some Matisyahu. You stupid fuck.
Every time I've been to a ska show there have been quite a few people that aren't white. My best friend is black, actually. Maybe it's just San Diego.... Yes, it does sound better with him, people are looking WAY too much into this.
I have to agree with Gozer. It doesn't matter if the guy is white or the recording was done in patois - the fact is he's obviously not from any area of the world in which he would've naturally picked up a patois and is doing a bad imitation of one to make it more "Jamaican". I've heard American black guys do it too and while it might appear a little more authentic because of their color, it's more or less the same thing as a white dude doing it.
I am 99% sure that it's Vicky Rose. She was in the Toasters' original line up and appeared on the 1985 release of the "Recriminations" LP. That tune and three others made-up that LP and also pop-up at the end of "Skaboom!" as bonuses. I think she may have appeared on some of their even earlier singles, when the Toasters' went by the name of Not Bob Marley in the early early '80s. Check out the bonus tracks at the end of the Thrill Me Up album for some of those! She really has a great voice, eh!

Because the original parts were written in patois, by a Jamaican. It doesn't sound the same with a white guy singing those parts.
