  • how did u get this?

  • how can be someone put unlike??

  • dave grohl didn't play on this song . . . it's joey castillo.

  • @okbrianb2 This is Dave, it was recorded during the Songs for the Deaf sessions and re-recorded by Joey for Lullabies.

  • @okbrianb2

Come on.. you dont even need any evidence.. just listen... This is dave grohl...

  • Thing is, like this, it sounds kinda similar to Go With The Flow.

  • I like how adding '/Dave Grohl' to the title probably added about 100,000 views.

  • joey castillo listening this version : nothing to do here

  • FRESH POTS!

  • Imagine the face of Joey? He probably laughed and went "balls to this sweaty bedroom dweller sound, I'll make it a stripper anthem"

  • monkey see, monkey do awahhowayyya

  • lol imagine the face of joey the first time that had heard this version

  • It still needs more cowbell, nobody ever cared about jamblocks

  • Comment removed

  • guys...the one on LTP is a jam block not a cowbell. That being said...MORE COWBELL!

  • I got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell

  • sounds a little like new wave polly

  • where did you get this from?

  • @toxin789 it was on the QOTSA forums years ago, dont know where the person that uploaded got it though

  • sounds perfect to me.

  • the drums sound good but i think that theyre too fast.

  • stay away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • its tight, but it needs cowbell......yes, more cowbell!!!!

  • IT'S NOT A COWBELL IT'S A JAMBLOCK!

  • @thefistoflight1 THANK YOU!! finally someone said something!

  • new wave polly sounds a bit like

  • It definitely! needs more cowbell

and I definitely need a Fresh Pot!

  • this songs definitely better with cowbell. well, actually the new version doesnt contain cowbell, it's actually called a jamblock. but whatever. THIS SONG NEEDS MORE COWBELL.

  • Sounds Tight!

  • I'd love to hear this with vocals!

  • thats sucks when poeple are always scandalling that the best line up was grohl and nick... well fuck you i love all albums and i dont give a creapy fuck whos on drum or on bass. stupid lil bastards

  • klock klock klock klock ...?

  • fuckin' awesome!!!!

  • how many fresh pots do you think he drank before he played this drum track?

  • MORE COWBELL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @brainstormer9

    GUESS WHAT???

    I GOT A FEVER!!

    AND THE ONLY PERSCRIPTION IS...

  • Someone needs to put the vocal track over this

  • @ADeformedCat Deeew eeet.

  • very good and yes it does sound nirvana like, just awesome!!!!

  • Why do people call a cowbell? it's a jamblock not a cowbell. the snl sketch is funny though.

  • MOAR Cowbell!!!

  • cowbell is faster to type (by one letter)

  • @VivaTour09 In the song recorded with Joey he uses a temple block, or a 'jamblock.' It sounds similar to a cowbell, so maybe people misunderstand what they hear? And in the SNL sketch it is a cowbell he's playing.

  • needs more cowbell.

  • I do like this one as well, it's apples and oranges though. Neither is better than the other, they both stand alone on their own as individual songs...where are the vocals for this though

  • Joey uses a jamblock, not a cowbell, in little sister.

  • Sounds very Nirvana-like.

  • @threshers1234 its all in the grohl

  • @threshers1234 yeah i know what you mean. the intro-drum sounds like the nirvana track breed.

  • @threshers1234 Really? Drum style is very different...

I guess the song layout is nirvana-like.

  • @tmantonym That Drumming is very NIRVANA like

  • @bomberman326 it's dave grohl :D

  • @Wolfvather I know and he is THE MAN!!!

  • @threshers1234 I wonder why?? hmmmmmmmmmm

  • @ARFF2690 I was being facetious

  • @threshers1234 well done haha

  • Drum program????

You're a fucking fool, do us all a favor and kill yourself immediately...

  • This is a good drum track, but I do like Joey's version better. Joey fits much better into QOTSA than Dave, but Dave is still an amazing drummer. Dave fits much better into Them Crooked Vultures. =D

  • It needs more cowbell

  • @canciondeloso it wasn't a cowbell but a jamblock

  • @canciondeloso much better this than what ended up in their worst album

  • I like the original with the cowbell, but this one is far more interesting and far more difficult to play, and i like it :]

  • it just occurred to me that this version of this song sounds a lot like the first few minutes of the orange goblin song diesel

  • thx dude

  • this should have been finished. tighter sound than the album version of little sister

  • Queens of the Nirvana Age!

  • @echoflanger Them Crooked NirFoona age!

  • joey doesn't use a cowbell

  • he doesn't in joeys version anyways, it's called al jamblock

  • He does...

  • yeah, but i mean not in his version of this song

  • God i fucking love you dave grohl....

  • I've got a fever......and the only prescription.......is for MORE COWBELL!!

    lol

  • Yes.

  • This is SOOO much fun to improvise a solo to!

  • needs more cowbell...

  • Needs moar jamblock to be perfect

  • They should add vocal track to this, or something.

I'd totally listen to it like, everyday.

  • it's better

  • wow this sounds soo punk right now and dave on drums is money any day

  • i like it

  • muy bueno :)

  • I like the territorial pissings type punk drumming but I do like the cowbell in the later version.

  • fucking awsome... thanx 4 upload..

  • I think Joey puts more experimentation into his drumming, however they both are badass drummers.

  • no doubt this is dave. it sounds reminiscent of his style during nirvana. this is too great for words!

  • sounds similar to aneurism

  • I really really really wish someone would mix this with the vocals and see how it would have been. You know it woulda been an aural orgasm

  • Sounds like early Nirvana style. Wow!

  • grohl's nirvana style ;)

  • this version got bass... listen carefully to it

  • Fuck, this is way better than the album version

  • agree to disagree?

  • I bet I know why youre disagreeing

    "LOL NO WOODBLOCK THIS SUX"

  • yeap i now that... its wierd!

  • hey ... this have bass sound....

  • seven nation army has only guitar as well, you would never expect it, but its like that. Guitars can sound like a lot of other instruments...

  • the studio version is a real bass but jack play with only a guitar live.

  • Yeah, he uses a special pedal that lets him reach really high and really low notes.

  • i dont remember the name of it now but it rocks! i wanna have one! :D

  • octave?

  • Yeah, it lets him go one octave higher or one octave lower.

  • Jesus fuck christ.. where do you get the mp3???

  • seems like i found a legal download to this, just message me if you want the link.

  • could you give me a link to get this song?

  • God i want this so bad , if anyone has it please , pretty please be so kind to send this to me.

  • Very cool early incarnation of a cool song, needs more cowbell though.

  • I like the way Dave drums on this, but it's not better than the original. Although, that one part that's in this that's not in the origional, is very cool.

  • Amazing drums! Way better than he original ones, if you ask me.

  • sounds alot funkier and faster than the other one. wait, why arent there any vocals? is this supposed to be an instrumental on purpose or what???!!!?!?

  • Yes...

  • Do I have to make it myself or is there a download for this somewhere?

  • grohl may not be one of the "best drummers ever", but he's one of the most powerful and relentless drummers. His skill is very subtle because he's not trying to show you how many fills he can play, so honestly I can't say how much technique he has, or even if he cares.

  • isnt he? well by saying that u prove u know nothing about drumming so prob best to keep quiet on drum clips from now on

  • And you must be a dumb fuck.

  • Dave ghrol is probs one of the most insanly awsome drummers to ever live. And seeing that he can still rock on the drums after something like a 10 year break or something, you have no right to judge him that way

  • no he is not AMAZING but he is not bad. and this he isnt trying to impress, just keep the beat of the song going

  • personally i think the era vurgaris 1 is well better daves drumming is immense but for this song his style kinda sucks for it, its too fast

  • thats why they changed it

  • Yeah, he's a little too overpowering for this song. But then again, this seems more like an early run through of the song or something, rough cut, so who knows, maybe if Grohl stuck around his version would be as tight as Joey's. But as is, yeah Joey's version of this song is better. (And it's from Lullabies to Paralyze, not Era Vulgaris.)

  • Whoa this is a phenomenal drum track

I prefer the finalized version with the jamblock though

  • every time i listen to this version, it reminds me of Pet Semetery by The Ramones. not the same tunes, it's just like it for my ear. Josh Homme used several riffs by great bands like The Stooges or Black Flag in his songs. it's much more fun, than covering the whole song. by the way i like the "Joey Castillo stole Daisys cowbell last night" version better. it's more clever. this song needs a laid back drumming in my opinion. Grohl plays punk here, which fits downstrokes, also a great version.

  • no cowbell makes me feel naked

  • Jamblock.

  • medxray im not bitching bout dave cos hes fucking amazing, i play drums and hes superb but im just making a point off the first 4 QOTSA albums had different drummers, sumin diff on all 4, being creative is one of the most important things... i can play all off songs for the deaf as can i on lullibies, cant say either ones harder too play then the other one, both good

  • I would rather see QOTSA live with Grohl playing 10x more than with Castillo...not sayin' Castillo's a bad drummer...just sayin'

  • Savage drummer!

  • ppl are so fucking small minded dave's better then joey, joeys better then dave........ so is steve vai better then josh homme cos he can shred? being a good musician is about being creative, and both these drummers are.... so just enjoy QOTSA!

  • well said but talking purely on music basis dave's better, no "which one is harder to play" analysis.

  • To fnsuper, "small minded"; really?? Dave Grohl is Rock and Roll Hall of Fame type shit and Joey is definitely not.

  • stop whining..

    like said before...

    Dave is Dave

    Joey is Joey

  • We can't keep comparing Joey to Dave, they are two different drummers. Dave is more rock and fun fills, while Joey has the whole suffle beat down. Listen to both Dave's and Joey's version of Avon, you can really tell the difference between the two.

  • Dave is way better than Joey. Joey rushes very badly all the time and it sucks a lot.. What do u think?

  • joey sorta does rush things live because he swings his arms so damn hard and its hard to be consistent at full force. but hes still creative and has got some decent chops.

  • Uh... I'd say Grohl hits harder, and he has far more consistent tempo.

Joey is still a great drummer, and he suits QOTSA's style really well... but I think Grohl might be a bit better

  • reminds me of new wave polly

  • dave is known to mess with new wave drum styles.

  • yeah!at start is like pay to play!

  • Sorry guys. But Dave Grohl is 100 times better then joey. I mean shit, this song friggin rocks with Dave.

  • To add my opinion to all this, the Songs For The Deaf drums are the most hardcore drums of all time, on the best hard rock/metal album ever made.

Joey's good, but he's sloppier than Dave, and can't quite pull off the same stuff live.

That's my opinion, but it's widely held.

Also, i'm a big fan of QOTSA and Foos, but obviously QOTSA are more rocking.

  • it's really grungey! well punky grungey :)

  • I worded that comment wrong, i'm not saying he's a bad drummer.

What i meant to say is: The drums on Era Vulgaris are pretty sparse.

also, you cant say that Dave Grohl's performance of Avon is laid back either.

  • That's true, but Rated R's drums are definitely not sparse =P

The only drummer in QOTSA that was laid back was Alfredo Hernandez and that was the original self-titled album.

Look you didn't say Joey was a bad drummer, you implied that Dave Grohl played harder than he did, and Joey was laid back; which is not true.

  • Is it just me or are all of these people who prefer Grohl are Foo Fighters/ Nirvana fans?

Don't be biased; Joey is a better drummer than Grohl =P

  • not necessarily, ever since joey has joined the band the drums have been toned down tbh. Some people prefer the heavy rockin that Dave provided by the boatload.

  • What are you kidding me?

    Quotes about Joey:

"It's no surprise that he comes from the "smack 'em 'til they cry for mercy or break" school of thought..."

"...became most interested in the pulsing, almost out of control rhythms and boundary breaking attitudes of punk.."

  • "Take the performances of "Avon," "Regular John," and the Desert Sessions track "Covered in Punks' Blood" from the DVD "Over the Years and Through the Woods" for example. The two songs from Queens' earlier days are pushed in a direction that is quite different from the laid back feel of the recorded versions while the last tune, which was already pretty aggressive in its studio version is brought into a warp speed that barely allows the others in the band to get all the notes in."

  • where do you get these quotes? I can only assume they come from some dicknosed writer working for Rolling Stone or some other corporate drenched music magazine.

  • lmfao, i'm a nirvana fan and even like some foo fighters, Castillo is better for Qotsa than Grohl but he's not a better drummer.

  • well said inka4484.

  • amen!

  • Im a fan of both but i rather see joey drumming because he fits into the band alot better then dave but he is not better

  • Seriously explain HOW IS David better?

  • Dave keeps time live. Joey can't do that. Joey rushes like a mother fucker and is very inconsistent

  • Dave is Dave and Joey is Joey.

  • it just shows you that, drummers really are nailed by producers and writter if they arnt playing the right beat,

    typicall grohl beat!

    still amazing tho!

  • This is sped up. Why?

  • I dont know if you people know this but dave grohl actually plays with his whipper sometimes. thats how he gets those super fast rolls done.

  • a what, whipper??

    whats that?

  • his little dave grohl

  • Dave Grohl is an entirely amazing drummer.

I've been trying to learn to play more like him, but keeping that incredible driving power and still having tight timings and feel is next to impossible... DAVE GROHL IS GOD

  • Castillo is a good drummer, but he's not Grohl. Castillo wishes he could play drums as well as Dave Grohl does...

  • Cant agree more, Castillo rules

  • Keep in mind this was just a very early basic version. I'm sure that if they would have settled for this "structure" it would have been a kick ass song too.

I also think castillo does a good job on the final version of this song.

Although i think the odds are pretty big that Josh came up with the beat used on the final version.

  • This version is cool even if is better the original version performed by Castillo...

Anyway Castillo is a very good drummer; but i like more Grohl 'cos his drumming is more intense and fun then the castillo's drumming

  • Dave is a Legend .. but Joey might not be as known as him but i think he's as good as dave & his version of little sister is tousand times better :)

but this version is also very good :)

  • There are some great drummers out there but.......Dave's the man in my opinion. He's got an unequalled powerful driving force that makes him seem inexhaustable. He actually seems to be generating more energy as he's playing like a shaman in trance. Unlike few other drummers out there today, his style and expression is really tight and primal at the same time. Performing with such effortless ease even though it takes great skill.

  • I respect your opinion but i dont agree. I think kurt is a better singer than Dave, More unique guitarist and his songwriting is more compelling. Dave blows him away on drums but thats about it. The last few Foo Fighters records are good but Nirvana's records are great and will inspire people for generations to come. Foo Fighters are a very safe band that doesn't take alot of risks with their sound. Nirvana evolved with each record and Kurt was capable of artistic growth with each album.

  • I totally agree.

Foo Fighters have very good music, but without that nice raw sound of Nirvana.

  • yea, nirvana was def better than the foo (and i love grohl), but i dunno about guitar skills, man--i mean dave copied a lot of kurt's signature style--like the feedback thingy--but dave's skills imo are better..and kurt's songwriting skills only surpass dave's post-foo debut album; dave really shone on that effort--all around
