It is never happening. I picked up my M6 through European delivery around the same time these rumors surfaced. I talked to some of the people at Munich, they said it was thought of for sometime but that the idea was never passed because of the economical climate of the time. A BMW with a price sticker over $160,000 that was stripped down & naked of all its luxury appointments & slimmed down for the track while doing 12mpg would simply not have done well in that market, & now its too late for it

that r8 will be awesome, the base got 8:04 with sport auto which means it could do low 7:50s with proper driver, and that one only got about 320 hp to the wheels. the new one will hopefully get at least 450 down but that danm quattro claims 23% of the power and that figure is likely to be lower, but faster than the zr1 around the ring? watching the zr1 lap youll realize in good conditions and pro it could do 7:20 but 7:25 in the r8 would be sick!

Its the same drivetrain components in a similar weighted car; there you go. For reference, the Gallardo Superleggera did it in 7:46 and the Murcielago LP640 in 7:40. My guess is, the R8 V10 is going to be between 7:35 and 7:40.
