Although this isn't my favorite of Podkapayeva's routines, she is always fantastic an beautiful. She rocked everything she ever did. She was the best gymnast ever!
@mrpatriot83 I sort of agree, but men's routines aren't meant to be aristic like the women's. Its more based on strength and I can't imagine some of those huge beefcake men prancing around and doing dance elements on the floor....LOL
Why would the Romanians be demoralized because of injuries? It's not like they faked ages on passports, or anything - cough, Chinese during 2000 games, cough. Just saying that there are a lot worse things they could do to bring shame to their country. I'm not being disrespectful, just wondering how the girls deal with so much pressure, must be brutal, but at least they have each other's support and encouragement.
USA can make from Romanians such poor kids, and I bet they have never seen the place. Maybe they do not have such rich gyms and highly paid staff and beautifull malls, but certainly we can find kids living on streets in so "wonderful" America as well!
There is something that is bizarre: Lilia got a floor score on part 2 and she is performing now, and the americans were done on beam last part and they didn't even start here...? Is there a problem with the numbering of the parts?
I kind of look like Alexandra - one year older than she is here, about two inches taller, but a little thinner and unable to do anything she can do so wonderfully.
i loathe the american floor style in this olympics...sorry, i'm just amazed by lilia podpokpayeva and it really frustrates me to hear this stupid comment about her routine 'minus one tenth'...at some point, i swear, who cares?
At least Daggett noted that she was his favorite in the competition. The commentators took one look at Lilia and knew any chance of an American all-around gold was down the tubes.
Following with the thought of some comments on the last segment re: Moceanu's blog and criticism of Bela: if any coach should be exposed as cruel it's Octavian. And unlike Moceanu on her blog, Alexandra Marinescu DID expose him in her book with specific accounts of cruelty and brutality. (Since I made my previous comment here I have read various lengthy excerpts and reviews of her book.)
The commentary really annoyed me here. They were talking all the way through Lilia's floor routine about the American and Russian teams and only mentioned her a little at the beginning and at the end when she stepped out of bounds.
i totally love romanians! in fact sophie maslow the former mayor of pittsburgh pa was a jewish romanian immigrant who started school here in america not knowing a word of english when she was 6 yrs old.
we just named a street after this great lady. the ceremony is actually on youtube. :)
no need to be defensive romanians, you are admired and cherished here in america.
The movie about Romania made me cry...because i am romanian and i know what revolution did to this country..Romania always had good gimnast despite the conditions they had to live, that's important...not if u like Amanar, how the gimnast look..bla bla.LEARN TO BE OBJECTIVE AND RESPECTFUL
yeah, you're right. i was thinking about it, and i think that these might be numbered incorrectly...they mentioned that the americans finished bars, so i'm guessing this clip goes towards the beginning, right after the clip that concludes with that quote about romania that's obviously a fluff lead-in
"We heard the same musics over and over again for the last couple of days in the women's and men's compulsories". I'm sorry, I didn't know the men used music? LOL :P
Errr that wasnt a compliment, seriously its so corney and cheesey and cringey and 'sympathetic' and most of all totally unrepresentative of the truth.

@mmoran3 It wasn't Maria Olaru, it was Claudia Presecan, Corina Ungureanu and Lavinia...just because I think it's wrong to wrongly malign Maria.

well you and your whining really annoy moi so we are even.
here is a hint, watch YOUR OWN NATIONAL BROADCAST.......NOT OURS! duh!
american newscast is biased towards AMERICA, crybaby.

I guess that's a fair enough comment.
However, there's no need to resort to childish name calling.

Well they got their own back. Lilia won the AA and the USA darlings didn't even palce in it!

How did the Romanian's go from Lavinia on floor, to Alexandra on beam? The rotation doesn;t happen that way.

I have always disliked Amanar. I don't know why. I'm not even sure how to verbalize it and I'm sure it is unfounded...but I simply never liked her.

that was so sad about Ana Maria Bican...she was never seen again after she was injured at practicing at the 1996 Olympics. Whatever happened to her?

Her knee injury before the Games was so severe that she was forced to retire at 16.
