@pwfordever Yeah, I was thinking of doing that if I need more RAM, but for now I've managed to arrange the cooler and RAM in a way that the cooler on blocks one slot, and I'm using two (I have 2 modules of 4GB)
I actually figured this out reading the instructions. No easy task. After it was all mounted, the computer would not boot up.After a few tests and removing the cooler,I found that the base plate had shorted out on the MB.Not enough padding for the one leg.Sotter points sticking up.New Egg would not replace my MB so out $150.Now not sure I even want to install it on another board.
@TheTeamFortressNoob oh yeah. I have a smaller case and it fits in there quite nicely i still have an inch or more of extra space (cooler master storm enforcer)
I have a Cooler Master NV-334-KWN1-GP Elite 334 nVidia Case - ATX, mATX (rolls of the tongue right?) anyways it a mid case and wondering if any has this case and was able to install this fan?
@CaptainRon956 I managed to get it installed, it fits, a tight fit but it does fit.I did have to remove that funnel tube that was on the inside of the clear side of the case.
@Darkfire889 Not usually, no. Over tightening them can damage the socket since it's putting too much force onto it from the heatsink, and there's really no point in doing it that tight. It's usually best to tighten them until you cannot easily turn the screws anymore, and not much tighter than that.
@EconAtheist smarty..... hehehe the last time i built a system there were no heatsinks!.... afyter that businesses ditched their perfectly great dell workstations AND 64's..... for free... i decided to build a video editing system yeah this was helpful.... and the instructions? was a waste of paper
@matthewTmccourt ah, gotcha. i may have been intoxicated when i first read your post; then again you may have also been intoxicated when you wrote it. :P
Should have demonstrated the themal paste. My cooler had 3 of the backplate notches that needed bent so that the screw would fit through. I kinda expected a better and more thorough video from the maker of this cooler.
Decent video and a great cooler but installing this thing takes a lot more time than the video makes it seem like it will. Getting the retention bracket in place without moving the heatsink around too much was a MAJOR hassle on my ASUS P8Z68V-Pro/Gen3 motherboard despite putting the retention bracket over the bottom of the heatsink before placing it onto the CPU.
I too wonder how tight the screws should be and wonder if I tightened them down too much?
I bought the hyper 212 plus and it is a really nice heatsink. Very silent and effective. Without this video, I would had not been able to built my new system (it helped me so much). Installing the cooler was one of the toughest part, but it went all well. About the thermal paste, there's a lot of videos about it and its about all the same. Anyway, this video gives good explanations.
If I wanted to replace my old cpu and cooler which is that heatsink already installed, can i just take both the cpu and cooler out with out having to remove the whole mother board?, I have a haf 922 case.
@TotalWarBonaparte I didn't check that case type, but if it has a cutout on the motherboard tray it should work. Might be hard to install inside the case though.

Question: I want to install this on my Socket 1155 Motherboard. What setting do I set the back-plate & stand-offs to? I only heard Intel's sockets 1156, 1366, 775, & AMD settings. Thanks.
You could have shown how to apply the thermal paste....
I was curious if there was a suggested method by CM because it is a direct contact heatpipes' cooler and the surface isnt 100% flat (it has tiny crevices etc).
@Grotomode I have the CM 212 Evo and i5 2500k and on their website they recommended to put a straight line. They have different recommendations for different CPU. Go check it out @ CoolerMaster website.
i get 50 degrees not even clocked, with all my fans installed, all correctly, in a cold room, no operating system installed, this is a bullshit product
@promachacker that's a lie, i was getting 40 degree load temps without the fan on it (mine arrived broken) and now i've installed another 120mm coolermaster fan on it i'm getting 17 degrees
Installed the Hyper 212 Plus on my AMD Phenom II x6 1090T a while back and it works like charm!!
AMD stock fan: 26 degrees idle, 55 degrees under heavy load (Prime95), and the noice level was 9000++++!
Hyper 212 Pllus: 22 degrees idle, 47 degrees under heavy load (Prime95), and the noice level was EXTREMELY LOW! Even under heavy load from Prime95 the Hyper 212 Plus was as dead silent as it was in idle mode!!
Seriously, was anyone actually able to figure out how to install this cooler just by the instructions that came with it? The piece of paper manual was absolutely terrible. That being said, I'm very thankful that this video was created, far better than any manual would be anyway.
1:27 needs clarification btw. When the knees come together like that, it's only for getting that universal retention plate UNDER the heat sink, once you have it under the heat sink you need to spread it apart again.
LoL, I love how you skip the installing of the thermal paste in the vid. Also, after you have done so, you don't want to be pushing the fan around like that. Final, dragging your mobo like that across the table was fail.
Indeed. I found this video hilarious. Especially when he grinds the motherboard against the table, lol. I realize it's probably a throwaway board, but it's still bad practice.
@satchmodan Agreed! The person that made this video is an idiot! Not to mention in order for the cooler to be most efficient the copper tubes need to run from the front of your case to the back with the fan blowing air up. The liquid inside the tubes does not have to move with gravity that way. So essentially EVERYTHING you did in this video is wrong.
Just throwing this out there, but I just installed this fan/heatsink combo into my computer, and the fan didn't come with those wire clips. They, instead, come with black brackets that's already pre-installed on the fan. The fan just pops on and off of the side of the heatsink block
@abyschan You're lucky you got the new version. I just mounted my fan with the clips and I can freely move it up, down, left and right. It feels SO loose.. I can't imagine this being the right way it should be mounted...
First time builder (AMD Phenom II) and I'm confused. At 1:53 this video seems to show the backplate insulating tape facing AWAY from the motherboard. The manual/instructions say: "Don't peel off the insulating tape. The insulating tape must face the motherboard". Which is correct, please?
@ultfiend217 it fits barely in my thermaltake v3 case. you will have to remove the back top case fan if u want to installl it side ways. its keeping my tempurates under 47 under max load right after installation. "dont be afraid to press hard on the screws for them to reach there holes." its a nice cooler overall.
@Pluhproductions Thanks man. I think I might go with the Hyper N520 instead. It's the same price as the Hyper 212 Plus but it's got some smaller dimensions.
as people have said before... the thermal paste thing is probably the most important thing to see for most people watching a mounting video. everything else is a very definite thing with little wiggle room anyway.
Whatever the 4 metal plate with screws is called is just fucking horrible. It took me 1h30 to install it and it ended up broking and now only 2 metal plates are holding my heatsink. Whoever designed this should be fired.
@PeterEdinx I've got it on my Elite 370 and checking specs on Cooler Masters website, the 370 and 430 are the same width, so I'm assuming it should fit in.
I normally dont ever post comments on any videos but this guide was perfect. Both verbal instructions and the video were very easy to follow. Got my system up and running. i7 920 under full load stress test via prime 95 60c.
The instructions that came with this product are horrible. Regarding the back plate, it states "The insulating tape should face the motherboard", which is the exact opposite of how it's supposed to be.
Nice video.
The mounting screws sure beat those plastic push pins on the Arctic Coolers.

MrPyrotech96 1 month ago
@MrPyrotech96
When it comes to thermal paste most people usually consider less to be more. Too much thermal paste will actually hinder you.
Just a little corn sized dab of thermal paste on your CPU should be enough, then putting on the heatsink will spread the paste around.

@LlamaInk
Its true that you can't use too much thermal paste, but in general there are some basic rules to abide by..
There are a couple of rules to abide.
1. Don't use too much, it could isolate rather than help transfer heat.
2. Don't use too little, if there isn't full contact or even air pockets this will make the heat transferring inefficient.
The optimal amount is a layer no thicker than that of plastic film.
Cooling paste doesn't cool, it transfers heat from A to B.

will it work with 1155???
DEKARONGAMER97 6 months ago
@DEKARONGAMER97 Yes, I believe it will. Newegg says it does.

They dont show you how to get off the heatsink mount for the stock HSF. That took a long time

For guys having issues installing and applying the thermal paste, refer to my previous posts further down for detailed descriptions.

Whatever the 4 metal plate with screws is called is just fucking horrible. It took me 1h30 to install it and it ended up broking and now only 2 metal plates are holding my heatsink. Whoever designed this should be fired.

will this fit in a coolermaster elite 430?
PeterEdinx 7 months ago
@PeterEdinx I've got it on my Elite 370 and checking specs on Cooler Masters website, the 370 and 430 are the same width, so I'm assuming it should fit in.

The instructions that came with this product are horrible. Regarding the back plate, it states "The insulating tape should face the motherboard", which is the exact opposite of how it's supposed to be.

does this work with p67 motherboard or 1155 mobos
