@maggitrymbill You should do videos that translate common phrases in Icelandic, t.d. Hann er einn á bátinn. Ég er að flytja til íslands í sumar, og er að reyna að læra daglegt tal.
@maggitrymbill Thanks for replying. Well, declensions take a lot of time, but you could begin with the alphabet (consonant clusters included). Then you could go with declensions (genders, endings and one example per ending: ur, ll, a an, ið, etc, cases and so on).
I hope you can make your Icelandic lessons videos in the near future, just go at your pace^^
@maggitrymbill Why doesn't the "t" sound have a letter? Or does it? And if so, why isn't it used? It misleads the name quite a whole damn lot. Anyway, props to you! ^-^
@Mandragara hmmmm, how do i turn down graphics settings?

Eyjafjallajokull is a strange word for many, all the reporters could not pronounce it, but our dear Eyfjallajokull, was nice enough to give us Grimsvotn, to rest the toungues of all the reporters, who had enough of Eyjafjallajokull.!!

Once you've got it,it rolls off your tounge!!
Very helpful/ The "ll" sound is related to a "kl" sound from what you are saying, and that makes sense. We have the "lk" sound as in yolk and folk but the "kl" sound as in specta-cle. i would expect somr icelandic influence in english no matter how slight.
"some icelandic influence in english? For info Icelandic is generally held to be the closest living language to Old English the English spoken in England up to 1066. After that English became more simplified and acquired a lot of french and latin influence. The words we use in every day are still very close to the Scandinavian languages and German and Dutch. Like English, Norwegian although a close relative of Icelandic is much simpler - whole sentences similar to English often.
Thanks Magnus! I'm from Serbia so it's not as hard to pronounce this but nevertheless I'm gonna go surprised my icelandic friend with my newfound knowledge! Thanks again bro!
Well I guess that clears everything up. Except it really doesn’t. We could just use your soundbite whenever the name needs to be said. Whoever makes the Icelandic Rosetta Stone tutorial is going to shit themselves trying to teach this. Iceland has edged out Hawai'i and Africa for hardest to pronounce noun. Iceland for the win.

The LL sound is pronounced by grasping the sides of your tongue with your molars and aspirating an "H". Those of you who speak Klingon will know this sound as "TL"

and Icelandic is a very, very hard language to learn and pronounce especially since you can't really sound it out phonetically. and even for Icelandic speaker, Eyjafjallajökull is pretty tough to say.
I said: "Aye-Yah!" (as in an eastern martial arts enthusiast on the attack); then "fee-Allah" (as in money for services, plus God [to the Muslims]), then "Joe-Cool" (remember Snoopy from "Peanuts" when he had his sunglasses on? "Joe Cool").
So it was "Aye-Yah, Fee-Allah, Joe Cool."
I tried.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear it said the right way. Thank you.
@HichiroJappy Of course, to see little elves (if I understand you correctly) running around you need to 1. Believe in them, really hard or 2. Be an insane person :D
The pronounce is almost impossible aha xD, here news just used to say "the Icelandic volcano xD" but honestly you have a face that make me thinking to something like " a good warrior with his hammer " from Norse mythology , it gave me a good impression aha :) greetings from Italy.
@HichiroJappy I don't know much German, never did learn it in school. But some people say that Icelandic is hard to learn, some people say it's easy. It's got close relations with Norwegian and Danish but with harder grammar perhaps.
@raulsaenz i thought it was kevin? but you can not rename our volcano/glacier/mountain! (read with a viking accent) Eyjafjallajökull is such a cool name! it's unique, just like any other unpronounceable mountain out there!
Easy for a norwegian :D I never understood why "ll" becomes tl, though.

I guess I was wrong (From Michigan, USA).

@HichiroJappy Ahh, sure. Some people say that there are pixies here. Personally I don't believe in that. Regarding a school, I haven't heard of it :)

@HichiroJappy Pixies the band? I've never heard of anything about Pixies or a Pixie school in Iceland. Not sure what you're talking about :)

@HichiroJappy I find german pretty easy to learn, it's pretty easy compared to what I natively speak: estonian

@HichiroJappy The grammar is kinda rough, but I don't think it's that difficult .. but what do I know, I've spoken it all my life :)

@raulsaenz i thought it was kevin? but you can not rename our volcano/glacier/mountain! (read with a viking accent) Eyjafjallajökull is such a cool name! it's unique, just like any other unpronounceable mountain out there!
