A lot of things can make a musician a great musician: Phrasing, for example, in jonh william´s performing is amazingly beautyful, hear the way he plays melody and accompaniment, giving each part his place in this masterpiece. He is one of the best classical guitarist ever, if you want to make critics, you must be very careful
Well, I've enjoyed this piece so many times. Then I read the comments and it took me another couple of views to notice one mistake... I don't get it. Why would you criticize this amazing playing for that tiny thing? The piece still sounds beautiful, and this is the best version I've found so far. The only one that's played properly, and with the right feelings to it. So why not just enjoy this video? I know that's exactly what I'm doing.
poor john williams , they always put him into a dark room and tell him to play classical piece . he's probaly sleepy in this video cause is a morning show .
It is because John Williams is generally so superhuman that hearing him burp and make little mistakes gives the rest of us mere mortal guitarists hope.
yeah... he missed a few notes because this song is fast as hell.... reguardless sounded amazing and JW is the freaking man so whoever is ragging on him can kiss his ass because you'll never be half as good a John Williams
Ugh, his tremolo is incredibly obnoxious in this video....It's not really supposed to be heard as groups of three notes, the idea is to emulate a drone. It should sound continuous...
@Hektor88 As someone who actually enjoys John Williams, I still agree with you 100%. The three note thing wouldn't be so bad if the piece called for it, but in this piece (as well as others that JW has played) it's just absolutely disruptive, and definitely not a quality drone. Its kinda weird that he would make this piece part of his repitoire without polishing such a glaring technical flaw (esspecially since hes usually known for being almost too technical)
@npi99 You're rite, not the best tremolo. Instead he excels at pieces like como llora una estrella, koyunbaba, choro de saudade and other dark pieces that require high end technical stuff mixed with a powerful and deep tone.
@npi99 Fair statement, i just watched romero play this, you could only call it flawless, i then watched him play aranjuez, wile he matches well on the soulful stuff, his tone and clarity can't match on the heavy sections. What we have here, i think, are two utter geniuses playing the very top end of what's possible.
I went to see JW live 5 years ago, he played perfectly, and it was live so there not several takes. So what if he missed a few notes here, he´s not a robot. By the way I got a chance to talk with him and got his autograph. Pretty cool guy and down to earth :)
@heilavirlan I also had a chance to see him perform almost a year ago, and met him after the concert, he is very nice and open to his fans, and his playing is nothing short of amazing, he really inspires me to play.
to the moron who criticizes JW. It is TREMOLO, not TREMELO. If you don't even know that you should be posting your comments in a video for guitar beginners.
@Bostero3771 Well said. I am astonished at the self-righteous conceit I see in these comments: these fools don't play, yet they attempt to impress one another by pointing out errors in Williams playing. I have studied classical guitar for over 35 years, and these comments make no sense, nor do they indicate any true understanding of the piece or the performer. It's like looking at a Ferrari, and saying the engine is flawed without ever having opened the hood.
@TheMax161 Absolutely. It is amazing how people who are probably no more than average players, feel they have the right to criticize the technique of a master like Williams. I can understand someone saying they prefer Pepe Romero's version (personally I think Ana Vidovic has the best "Recuerdos") but to get into a discussion on the quality of his technique?? Give me a break!!!
Actually, John misses quite a few notes on this piece, not just at 1:35. Makes you wonder, since his audio version of it on "Spanish Guitar Music" is perfect, how many takes did he need to get it perfect? Or did he simply have an engineer remove the mistakes and splice together a perfect version from multiple different takes?
Not perfect. At 1:36, Williams missed the high note. Also, his version of this song on the "seville concert" dvd is shows more precise distancing between the tremelo notes. But on this version, you can hear the space between the tremelo and the bass strings. The tremelo should not be "dadada, dadada" but "da da da da da" etc. The purpose of this particular trick to give the audio illusion that two guitarists are playing. Indeed, that's what I thought for years only hearing the audio.
I guess you can play it better than him? also, it is not a "song" it is a piece, actually a masterpiece, and regardless of a few mistakes he makes he is still the best classical guitarist ever.
good comment bro... I wish I could play this as (as morons comment here) poorly as he does. These people just make me laugh... JW introduced the guitar to probably more people than Segovia!
@jllobet i somewhat agree with you. John Williams may be the great guitarist today. But not ever, he didn't create many songs hes just replays them. The master mind behind the pieces are the true guitarists. Agustin Barrios, is the guitarist that created these songs. Imagine how good he could play them. Too bad he had to die in the 40s
Williams is my inspiration, my hero, my idol...
