Well, I never really thought "Gothic" was defined as something that was meant to depress people. I think you may be thinking of something more like punk. The punk culture is the one that revels in being depressed with the state of the world without really giving a care.
No, I would define Gothic as something like 'medieval' or 'mysterious', in a dark sense. Ruby Gloom just takes that world and turns it on its ear, hence the "bright side of the dark side" motif. So yeah, it's Gothic.

I don't mean to press the issue here, but I think Miserys singing voice and her speaking voice are different. Emily Hampshire does the voice acting for Misery and Jeen O'Brien does her singing voice.

It sounds different, but it's the same girl. A lot of voice actors have a different singing voice than character voice. Listen to her sing in the episode "Unsung Hero". You'll be able to hear that it's the same person. ;)
