  • Whats the autonomy and the capacity of those cilinders?

  • wow badass this is the future of transportation :D

  • @XxTenpennyKillerxX if only, its not very scalable afaik and these caused massive deforestation during world war 2

  • Thats amazing, great video

  • Very nice looking blitz

  • Thats a cool thing! How fast does it go? And how far does it go per kilo wood?

  • thank you!

by 3. question i meant, that the engine, using wood gas, is a little weaker than when driven on gasoline... i wondered how much weaker...

i know trucks in japan were so much weaker they needed to be pushed up hills...

  • great video!

    i have a few questiones:

    1. was it a petrol or diesel engine originaly?

2.when the flammable smoke is shown, does that smoke go into the engine like that, or is it filtered for engine use?

    3. how much of the original is this woodgas version weaker?

i think it certainly misspells some misconceptions that woodgas makes a shorter engine lifespan, this truck certainly had its share of work during its lifetime, and it still works.

great truck, love and respect from Croatia!

  • 1. It came from the factory like that

    2. the smoke shown was already filtered and ready to go to the engine

    3. ?

  • Wow a working 3 ton Opel biltz truck

  • nice piece of engineering! great for you to own one!

  • I think I'd make that my daily driver!

  • vedbil please give me some advice, i cant get flamable gas....in my video

  • Tucker had them in his car in the 40's

  • looks like it has a heck of a lots of things to do before its ready to hit the road. nice truck. lot´s of head turning wean driving it. right.

  • that thing sounds mean !

  • Wow! (I didnt want to say wow.. but Wow!) What an awesome truck! (I want one!) and its a VOLVO!! My favorite car company! =)

  • is it commercially feasible? can we run a diesel engine on wood gas? what about pollution and global warming?

can I run a five HP or ten HP. diesel pumpset for irrigation purpose? if so how?

  • yes, it is feasible... well, depending on how much organic matter you have nearby.

acording to net search, you can run both...

you can run a pump, mower, or any internal com. 4 stroke engine on it.

check if your pump isn't 2-stroke.

    good luck!

  • Wow! Is the engine power negatively affected by the use of woodgas?

  • it being 60 or 70yrs old and still going answer that question for you..or

  • What I ment was, does the engine produce the same power as it does when gasoline is used. Thanks for the sarcasm though.

  • No, wood gas typically is 70 to 80% the power of gasoline.

  • I read it lose about 20% compared to running on fuel

  • Thanks bud. Hows the weather in germany?

  • Changing from rain to sun every 30 minutes today. Now where's the summer?! I blame the fuel gasses for the world climate change, let's all drive woodgas cars ! :)

  • Nice, but how much better is it to chop down forest to fuel our cars? It is a renewable source, but thats gonna be a challenge to grow that much wood.

  • Do you have any idea how many tons of sugar cain waste is burnt every year. not to mention millions of tons of corn, banana, wheat husk and storks, plantation pine branches etc etc etc. There is no need to burn wood. Agricutural waste alone could power hugh numbers of vehicles.

  • Where can I find more information on what you just said?

  • A good source is this book.

Biomass Burning and Global Change: Biomass burning in South America ... By Joel S. Levine.

I remember as a youngster the red glow in the distance as the sugar cane fields were set alight prior to harvest and the smell of smoke in the air, not a good time to have asthma. There is more carbon added to the atmosphere from the burning of agricultural waste than there is from burning fossil fuels.

  • Thanks! I'll check it out.

I always felt guilty when ever I threw away my banana peel to the trash. Did you know egg shells are good fertilizers? I can't remember where I heard it but I heard it when I was a little kid.

  • What are the two levers mounted under the steering wheel? Is one of them the choke? He uses the left one on startup and adjusts the right one while driveing. thanks

  • The left one is ignition timing and the right one is fuel/air mix. Its actually the right one he adjusts mostly in startup.

  • Svenska rulezz !

  • have you looked into corrugated cardboard to make wood gas? for short trips? I have an ample supply. might be worth looking at. as you could have several light weight generators ready to go.

  • THANK YOU!!!!FINALLY WE SEE IT!!KEEP POSTING.this isVERY useful! saveME SOME MONEY!

  • It's pretty neat and all, only I'd rather dig in the desert then cut down forests. You also now have 2 sources of pollution, the burning of the wood gas in the engine and the burning of the wood in the wood gas maker. Wood gas is a more efficient way of burning wood and is great for people who NEED to cook with wood. Other sources of biomass gases are being put into the natural gas pipelines though.

  • It depends on where you live. Sweden is a big land with a small population and lots of wood. There is no polution from burning wood in the producer ecept PAH-rich ash. The polution from the engine is less than if it ran on gasoline. The carbon dioxide is near 0% becouse it's a bio fuel without any energy-consuming processing. In Sweden we always replant when logging wood.

The best would be if everyboudy left their car at home and bycycled to work.

  • I agree about the bicycle part. Not everyone can bike, but most people can bike or use public transportation. I stopped driving 3 years ago and use pub transit to get around and for the most part it's fine. I do miss having a car on weekends and shopping though so I'm thinking of driving again, but only when public transit is not practical like food shopping and the like.

  • That's great! I moved near the place where I study which reduced my car travelling with 90 km per day in the winter. And in the summer I can bicycle.

Yes, you are absolutely right! Most people can bike! It would make them healthier, the environment better and reduce exploitation for making roads. Driving a car is like carrying around 1,5 tons of shit that you don't need.

  • You could get an electric bike and a trailer to tow I have this and it works well I was able to carry home plenty of provisions from 6 miles away 12 round trip. I don't use it because it is unsafe around here the car drivers don't watch out for bikes and podestrians. So I drive a car but if needed I have the bike set up.

  • Are particulates a problem for the engine?

  • Not with todays engine oils and better filter materials avilable that removes the smaller particles from the gas. But it was a problem during the WWII.

  • thanks!can you show how you filter the gas before it goesto the engine?I recall an article from WWII here in USA a man did this with his Chevy truck but only got 500 miles before overhaul on his engine!

  • Go to the construction blog on my website "vedbil,se". Day 29 to 32 describes the filter design. It's available in English by presing the English flag in the upper left corner.

Almost all vehicles were powered by wood in during WWII in Sweden. They had some problems in the beginning, probably caused by bad recycled engine oil and bad filters.

  • thanks!youre doing me a great service!

  • thanks. Before Id ever heard of You Tube that site of yours was what id read.THanks!

  • this is due to the ash in the fuel.

    You need a good filter

  • I think the best is what youre doing in Sweden with a small population and plenty of renewable forests.

  • Cool video, and great idea. When I saw the title, though, I thought it was going to be a gas truck made out of wood.

Should be changed to say "Wood-fueled truck"

  • Thanks for the ride-along. And I am glad to see this fine piece of ingenuity and craftsmanship still exists.

  • Excellent film, lovely piece of kit. I very much appreciated seeing this and have passed on the link to several other people already.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • so lets start planting trees and forget the oil mother fuckers once and for all

  • @paulkelly64 yeah!

  • I LOVE IT! A beautiful old truck that runs on WOOD! How long does it take to prime up the engine?

  • 5-20 minutes depending on the temperature. If the engine and wood gas producer is hot, it starts instantly.

  • Every time I see such things on the Internet, I always get that "steampunk" feeling... nice!

  • praise the lord

  • FANTASTIC!! GREAT VIDEO THANKS!!!
