  • Perhaps this might turn into a sort of "graphical" user interface for the blind, a different kind of tactile user interface, extending their available computer access beyond braille displays.

  • @Hoboboy12 perhaps.

  • This will give a whole new meaning to the term "blow job."

  • YAY!! Holo-deck here i come ^^

  • Finally a means to have a simulated light saber battle.

  • Or this could be fake if they put the frequency of the vibrations equal to the fps the camera shoots.

  • How does it feels when touched bare-handed?

Is it safe of radiation? :/

  • @Semtexxxxx Ultrasound is basically sound waves but at a higher frequency (more than 20kHz) and it doesn't ionize matter so it isn't radiation :)

  • ok now combine this with the plasma emission true 3d technology and we are onto some seriously awesome next gen technology

  • @prankmypants you got that right. gaming and even telivision will be amazing

  • WOW! Just think of it! With a strong enough powersource we could mount these under CARS and have Anti-Gravitational Cars, Motorsyckles, Aircrafts n more! Never touching the ground! Totally Awesome!

  • @Bellybeard you completely missed the point of this tech. if u wanna have flying cars.. just attach some crazy ass fans on it.

the point of this is for tactile feedback. if combined with the proper proximity sensors, light sensors, holographic displays, you could have an entire systems that could be applied in entertainment, industry, and so many other things.

  • @iMPERiOUS ...i know all that. But i am (compared to you) a visionary. Who can see OTHER uses with great invetions!

Are computers simply for work? NO! Someone (like me) thought of it in a different angle and created GAMES! Jeez... You really need to WIIIDEN your perceptions. One thing does NOT exclude the other. You should learn this, it makes your life easier :)

  • isso e muito legal. nao sabia que isso era possivel desta forma.

  • continued from last reply

Something like the holodeck which is something that we are seeing here. Can this tech be used in a 8 cubic feet room where you get haptic forces coming from all angles through the use of ultrasound waves bouncing off all walls of the cube???

If so then this is tech that will change the rooms of our homes

  • I think it'll show in some sort of video game system first lol

  • very interesting tech indeed

Is this tech patented? It should be and that should be done quickly!!!

Can this tech be used to feel the weight of an object rather than just downward haptic forces like in the video

The holy grail of displays for video games is those virtual reality head mounted displays but the holy grail for interaction is haptic feed back devices. continued in next reply.

  • Ok, but can you touch it's bottom?

  • lol as long as you arent shot in the face too many times if its a game like cod:WaW :D

  • so does this mean we are able to be in video games like feel, touch and moe stuff in video games even though we are in real life awsome! :D

  • Thank you, youtuber, for your valid contribution.

  • ROFL.

  • Somehow I know this will be used for porn.

  • Yep.......

  • Yeah Playboy will probably change it's name to Playhard.

  • @MadsterV lol i think you could be right!

  • Now what happens when you smack it really, really hard?

  • holy shit... would sell my soul to get this as a gaming machine... jummy

  • SAME!!!!!

  • interesting can be very interesting with the hologram of paul debevec.

  • I can here this shit ! Fucking annoying...

  • lol

  • Unlikely. Audio compression discards high frequencies.

  • in the vertial shape, the handle had a gap - does the "air object" have a gap or is that impossible at the moment?

  • お化け屋敷で使われたら死人が出そうだ

  • I wouldn't be surprised if the Japanese sex trade and investments towards virtual sex simulators just went through the roof in the Japanese stock exchange because of this thing.

  • i think they just created the future of pron

  • i would love to use the h game that uses this technology ;)

  • wtf is wrong with the vid it stops like every 2 secound

  • your connection is what's wrong

  • Star trek Holodeck! I Like!

  • I'd like to see what happens when somebody throws a piece of cloth over it or drops a bag of flour over it. It would make this tech demo more convincing.

  • Well, obviously, they would fall though it.

They arnt claiming to have some force-field magic here, simply localised precise presure sensation.

This is still a very cool piece of technology.

  • If you follow the links and look on Google ("High resolution tactile display using acoustic radiation pressure"), this go to official university publications. There 's no hoax here.

  • I'd like to believe this, but I think it's just paper on a string.

If it's not, why can't they just drop the paper? If the air is pushing it out of the way, wouldn't the paper just sit there?

  • Would paper hover in the air if there was a jet of air under it? Of course not, it would slide to one side.

    The same would happen here.

Its not a fake, but it isnt pretending to be a forcefield either.

  • "Would paper hover in the air if there was a jet of air under it? Of course not, it would slide to one side."

We're not talking about a jet of air; we're talking about a shaped beam of sound that terminates at a specific point.

Say you made that shape a bowl - if the beam can push the paper out of the way, why couldn't it hold the paper up?

  • What happens if they pour water on it?

  • The same thing came to my mind as I watched it.

  • Can it hold a piece of paper in the air without the hand? On a serious note though:

    But will it blend?

  • ohh man thats amazing and yet so simple ! cant wait to try it out for myself !

  • Ocha huita ww

  • WOW!

  • i sure hope to god they can make this possible for any texture regarding ear damage because these high level frequencies could premanently damage your ears...

  • Your ear doesn't even react to frequencies after a while, or so i've heard, it's like a dog whistle.

  • Awesome!!

  • So that's how magicians do their stupid little cover sheet tricks.

  • very clever!

  • When will it be released in public in 2011? ^_^

I hope you invent not only the hands but all the human body interacting with the Airborne Ultrasound.

  • If I turn it over, can I call it anti-gravity?

  • for porn?

  • Gotta like the subtle "i'm playing with something that has the shape of a titty" selling point they've got going on.

  • Imagine hacking into some govt/comercial/hi security buildings and being able to physically prowl around, opening cabinets, switching on computers, tampering w/t power supply, opening safes while tracking ur movement on cctv. To be physically present(like a ghost) somewhere else

    awesome!

  • Amazing, this could serve as a precursor for a Star Trek like holodeck in some distant future.

  • sweet!! i want it :)

  • I can imagine a shooter game with transducers hitting you exactly where you are hit in the game or maybe an adventure game with lots of grass or vegetation touching your face

  • "maybe an adventure game with lots of Boobs or more Boobs touching your face"

    jajaja virtual oral.... jajaja

sorry i know i am disgusting

  • you are human

  • bullet point:

    Ultrasonic waves cannot stain!

  • I guess the porn industry is interested :-P

  • Wow Cool !!

  • Will it drive the dogs in the room crazy? :)
