  • its faster in normal mode. still though cvt is a fail.

  • CVT transmissions are not the best transmissions to clock 0-60 time (, they are made to be fuel efficient. Manual modes are only good for lower gears and to start off quick. I have a 3.5 SE and it clocked 0-60 at 5.9 secs with nothing but an exhaust and cold air intake.

  • god damn thats so slow 0-40 was like so long that you can take a phone call and still be there

  • 8.1sec

  • 0-40 very slow a toyota yaris 0-40 cloc the same tame

  • @kompleti why even compare a yaris to an altima?

  • do a neutral drop

that will probably shave a good second off

  • @benchod94 u cant

  • @occckid123 yeah ur right i was only kidding with the comment but tried one in a sentra it wont let you lol

  • @benchod94 i tried it in my versa cvt and i got it 2 peal out really hard for .2 seconds then the transmission went into limp mode and smelled like a burnt clutch lmfao! i thought i broke it!!!

  • sloww

  • omg soo slow, but it is an altima so decent

  • I got 8.5 when i timed it and that was being generous.

  • @philippe4141 this is in manual mode so it simulates gears it doesnt let you hit redline and drops rpm to imitate a gear change its retarded lol its faster if you just leave it in drive

  • damn my 1.7L honda is faster...

  • @xxGAMRxx Oh so your 1.7 goes 0-60 in 7-8 sec i dont think so cause the manual barely gets 8sec and plus this car isnt broking in cause if it was it would pull much harder

  • @jsnevels2 My car is a manual 5 speed and I know how to launch/shift. I would say my 0-60 time is about 7 seconds not exactly sure but it is faster than this video although there was no launch.

  • @xxGAMRxx Sorry to say you cant launch a cvt in manual mode

  • how is this cvt in manual???

  • @ skeegle the Chevrolet Malibu's 3.6L v6 does 0-60 in 5.7 has a premium audio system & the ltz version with leather &suede seats .dual exhaust, & onstar among other things costs $27,000 that smokes the camary. & is better quality than toyota

  • @j7134599203 0-60 5.7 stock happening the malibu is heavy and it get 6.4

  • best expression, slowwwer than my grannies buick

  • @gittyupalice96 i don't think he floored the gas pedals. Cause my altima went to 0-60 in manual mode in 7.4 secs and i have a 4 cylinder 175 hp 2010 altima

  • @v1per808 not gona lie, it makes a great family car... but as for acceleration, its never gonna beat a supra, or stroker camaro.

  • @gittyupalice96 well of course not the camaro and supra. But i raced a 1/2 mile run on an monitored road with my friend and he has a 1992 camaro and he just beat me in just 1 sec. and he just changed his air cooler system, which is not bad for a 4 cylinder altima vs a V-6 camaro. The Supra has turbo so it will beat the altima in 3 secs. But without the turbo the supra is almost the same as the altima, just a bit faster. I just found out that the supra is heavier than the altima

  • @gittyupalice96 My point is u can't compare a 4 cylinder car with a camaro, supra or any other sports cars. lol just doesn't make sense, but i agree with u the altima is a great family sport sedan, which i think its a kick ass car, clearly better than the camry, accord, the gay sonata, and the mazda (especially the 4 cylinder). Just the problem i have with the altima is the interior design, but i think the design is for safety reasons. To have people look in the road instead of the dashboard lol

  • @v1per808 It get 7.2 with my altima and its a 2008 2.5sl

  • @jsnevels2 thats actually pretty good. mines get 7.5 flat on my 2010 2.5S

  • @v1per808 just wait till yours get broke-in it will be hitting 7.2 or quicker

  • @jsnevels2 what do u mean broke? lol

  • @v1per808 When your gets to a certain mileage it gets a bit faster than it was when you bought at the dealership or if you car has over 40,000miles it broke in already. Your gas mileage increases car runs a bit better and bit faster but if you didnt break it in properly its nit gonna perform as fast as other altimas.

  • @jsnevels2 i see. yea mines a 2010 altima and i only have 9,560 miles on it. lol

  • @v1per808 Oh

  • 0-60: 8.2 sec

  • this car is a whole second faster to 60 than the accord is!

  • 8 seconds. Not bad at all for an Altima :)

  • This car is fine. I have one and it accelerates a little faster than this one, but I think it's because it's in manual mode. People have to remember that this is a four cylinder. It accelerates way faster than my Nissan quest.

  • my 04 is way faster than that wtf is wrong with this altima?

  • my altima does 7.2sec this one got like 8.5-9.0 sec

  • i just wanted to tell you people considering a nissan altima, please PLEASE DON'T DO IT. i've actually owned two, a 2006 one and a 2009 one. the only reason i went back for more was because they were giving fantastic deals if i released. the 06 one was horrible to drive, handled terribly, and had a very jerky gearbox.

the 09 model drives much better and handles OK (nothing more than ok, even for its size) but you wouldn't believe how cheap the car is made.

  • the bumper just decided to randomly fall off one morning, the paint scratches ridiculously easily, and i get dents like crazy. the interior feels and looks cheap, the seating position is too high, and the cvt is really annoying. on top of that, the car is very slow.

it handles ok, like i said, but it certainly doesn't live up to the claims of sporty driving compared to my mazda 6.

and the quality difference between my nissan and my cousin's accord is incredible.

    so please, don't buy it.

  • @coolerdude44 ummmm i dont belive you i have 2008 altima it is fine no problem none what so ever so stop making rumors bout altimas there not all that bad

  • @dofl23 lmao you don't believe me? would you like me to make a video review?

i have no reason to lie to you buddy.

  • uhhhhh no i dont so why lie? idk i had 2 altimaa a 2003 and a 2008 none had any problems

  • @dofl23 to correct spelling i meant two altimas

  • slow?? It's about the fastest in its class....... I do agree that the Accord is sick too, though. And you don't NEED to get the CVT. You can get manual.

  • @arcenal352 the altima is not available with a manual anymore, and when it was, it was only available on the basic models. it is very slow, in the amount of time it would take my mazda 6 (2004 v6) to get from 40-90, the altima does 40-65. shouldn't be too much of a difference, the altima's lighter and only has 10 less lb/ft of torque.

  • You're comparing a V6 to a 4-cyl. Compare Altima's 3.5 to the Mazda6 V6 and you'll have a fairer match. The MAzda6's 4-cyl is considerably slower.

  • @arcenal352 i don't think that's a fairer match. the altima 2.5s cvt has 175 bhp and 180 lb/ft of torque and weighs 3,080 pounds.

the mazda 6 has 220 bhp and 290 lb/ft of torque and weighs 3,300 lbs.

this is a pretty fair battle. the cvt doesn't handle the car's power well, because i remember thinking the 06 was fast (it had the exact same engine).

  • Maybe... I know that my 2008 runs away from Manual Scion TC's, which isn't saying much, I know. Speaking of weight, unless this is a coupe, the Altima weighs 3180lbs. And I know you meant 190 lb/ft and not 290 LOL!!!

  • @arcenal352 lol yeah i did, didn't even notice that. and we're both wrong, it's actually 3145. that's pretty light for a car that big, but it just doesn't feel sporty.

  • 2.5 Altima is less than 300 pounds lighter than V6 Mazda6. Mazda6 (V6) has over 100 more lb/ft of torque and makes 45 more hp. 2.5 Altima does not stand a chance against Mazda6 V6... its a fact.

  • @KarlT01 nope, the mazda has only 10 more lb/ft of torque... i think if they gave the altima's cvt a sportier ratio, it would stand a better chance

  • @KarlT01, Duh, The Mazda is a V6! The 2.5L Altima is a Inline-4

  • by the way, it's faster than a 4-cyl Mazda6.

  • wtf??? I've owned several: 1995, 1997, 2003(V6) and 2007(4 cyl)

how does it have a jerky gearbox, when it has a CVT transmission???? Not to mention, reviewers pretty much ALL praise it for the smoothness of its gearbox. And my '97 made it to 330,000 miles before getting totaled. It had original motor and transmission and drove just fine.

My 2007 has 120,000 miles and has had no issues whatsoever.

  • @arcenal352 you are so right.... And my dad has had altimas every since it came out and now he has a 2010 altima coupe 3.5se 6spman its so sick...

  • i was referring to the 2006 automatic... before it had a cvt. i believe it was a 4 speed, no 4 speed is a good transmission...

the cvt is better than that 4 speed, granted, but it's not better than a 5 or 6 speed automatic.

  • The 06 was a 5speed automatic. The 5speed came along in 2002

  • @geoff421 not true, the 4 cylinder engine for the 2.5s had a 4 speed auto

  • After further research, I do stand corrected. The 4-banger 2.5s's optional transmission was in fact a 4speed auto. My apologies

  • @coolerdude44 No way Iis the handling for the altima ok. Its very heavy in high speeds, making the car to be sensitive in turning, but in slower speeds its very loose. I think the handling was well done to the suspension (btw i have a 2010 Altima). But whats the problem with ur 2009 altima? I don't think the mazda can have a better reliability score nor does it compete in power with the altima.

  • I'll shoot another Altima video down the road ... with the bigger engine ... =)

  • @invizi0n You're telling a well respected car reviewer not to make a video of a test car he got?

    Haha! You've lost it.

  • My 1997 E39 BMW 523i will eat this turtle for breakfast.

  • a little turtle!!!

  • I'd rather have the '09 Optima SX, which has a proper 5-spd auto with paddle shifters. Much more enjoyable for a hell of a lot less money. It's slightly smaller 2.4L 4cyl makes the same power (175hp) and is better on gas too. This beside the fact the trunk and backseat are both bigger, so it's more practical too.

  • i got about 9-10 seconds a little slow for my tastes

  • I agree... it IS supposed to be slightly faster. It's supposed to do it in 7.5 seconds, which is not bad at all considering it's a 4-cyl pushing a big, heavy car.

  • Why are the gears soo short?

  • I'm guessing because in manual mode they are imaginary gears, which are "artificial", to mimic those of a conventional transmission, even when there are no gears in it.

  • But I mean still, Nissan messed up that part.

  • 2.5 altimas are slow. 3.5's are fast.

  • Its not manual. Look at the RPM its too high for a stick.

  • because it's in manual mode. it's a 6 speed automatic.

  • my mom has this car

  • it depends what car you are in to find a 0-60 MPH time: Manuals give a quicker time and automatics give a slightly slower time.

  • my friends mom drives one, in sounds like a 350z. they feel to slow for me though.

  • darkstargtx,

you're right about that. toyotas do have a cheap non- good looking interior, but an alright exterior. most nissans on the other hand, have both good looking exteriors and interiors and last pretty long when compared to toyotas. the point is i guess everyone has different tastes, but i'm with you when it comes to choosing i'd go with a nissan, hands down. my second choice would be a honda, but as for a toyota the only reason i would buy it would be out of desperation to get a car

  • You must be kidding,right?

You can't kill a 'Yota, man!

I had a Nissan Sentra, nothing but problems.....

  • Toyota's are highly overpriced. I'm not saying that they are poorly built cars by any means, just that they are too expensive for what you get.

  • @theemceemurdah What do you "get" with a toyota? About the most reliable vehicle sold in the world? a 3.5L 268hp engine good for 60mph in 5.7seconds in a family sedan? Please dude, an adequately equipped V6 camry will rocket to 60mph in less than 6secs with leather seating and JBL audio for>$25K. Beat that in any other car manufacturer with bulletproof reliability--that one fluke recall aside. I almost just bought an altima V6, ended up with an accord v6, but still, u can't diss toyota.

  • @skeegle In Canada, the 2010 Camry V6 with leather and sound system upgrade goes for $36,000 excluding taxes, destination, and prep charges.

  • @skeegle An Altima V6 with leather and the sound system upgrade is $29,000 appox.

  • @theemceemurdah yeah they r tough cars. i got a 2000 camry as a daily driver. my buddys an i pretty much beat the living shit out of it and it runs like a champ. i love the car haha

  • that was slow as hell

  • They are faster when they are not in manual mode.

  • CVT is for the dogs, buy a Toyota....

  • toyota's have cheap interior and crappy engines... they can not compare to nissan's vq35. it has won top 10 best motors 10yrs in a row...

  • toyota only neededto make 1 engine that raped everything..2jz-gte

  • top 10 best motors? where can i find this list and who makes it? no company like motor trend or anyone makes a top 10 best motors list. any single person can make a list, but its all opinion.

  • I think its wards ten best engine list.

and btw I have a 2005 altima vq35 and a 2004 toyota sienna, the nissan is definatly better it's never had any problems the interior is great and has proven very durable and the sound of the vq35 is just so damn sexy. lol

  • wards is a person making the list with his opinions and some few facts. its not an accurate list. and you want to hear a sexy sound? american muscle! none of these new versions though. the 2010 challenger rev sucks, the camaro is alright, and the mustang has the beastly sound. but its still not as good as the 70's muscle

  • God that CVT makes the engine rev up slowly. That would piss me off

  • It pisses me off with my Dad's Rogue.

  • Yeah, I agree with nissanaltimaka24de, I heard these were faster in Drive too...

  • My dad's Nissan Rogue has the same engine and tranny as this Altima and I would say that's true with M vs D mode. The M mode is disappointing when flooring it, It's most satisfying when doing Stop & go with stop signs.

  • Does it have a sport mode with the CVT? We rented a 2007 G35 and when you put it in the manual shift gate, it went into automatic sport mode and stayed like that until you tapped the gearshift to change gear.

  • NO! I %^&$#@* wish it did! Was it actually shifting instead of CVT-ing when in sport-mode?

  • Yes, the 5spd auto was shifting as if it was in a regular sport mode. The sport mode canceled once you started shifting manually. The manual mode held gears and yes, the car was really freaking awesome!!! It was black gen2 sedan with 306hp and awd. I have a video on it somewhere if you want to see it...

  • You mean that car had a 5 spd tranny and not a CVT? It would be awesome! if Nissan offered not only a "geared" manual mode on the CVT but a geared automatic mode.

  • I meant the 07 G35 had a 5spd auto with sport and manual modes. The Altima in this video has a CVT with six preset ratios the driver can use in manual mode. No Infiniti vehicles have CVT transmissions.

  • Yes I remember now that Infiniti doesn't use CVT's.

  • This engine is worlds quieter then the malibu hybrid that was tested earlier..

  • Redo it and keep it in Drive, it's way faster than the M mode

  • First gear in M mode should not go so long, it seems like that is for fuel economy, and that defeats the fun of M mode. My dad's Rogue is the same way in manual mode.

  • The first "gear" in manual mode is designed to give the car maximum torque, which is the reason it "bogs down." If you leave it in Drive, that slow start off the line disappears.

  • manual mode is fun from like a 20 punch in 1st gear or a 30 punch in 1st gear and beyond. after 1st the ratios are very sporting not dropping far back down in the rpm range

  • Apologies for any confusion. This is a repost of the clip I uploaded earlier this afternoon (and subsequently deleted). This Altima is equipped with the CVT and the test was run in manual mode.

Many thanks to all who caught the typos ... I'm in the midst of a nasty cold (cough, porkfluenza) and screwed up when I cut and pasted info from earlier stuff. d'oh!

  • is it really faster in D?

  • Yes. It's roughly 1-1.5 seconds quicker to 60. However, the manual mode is much more entertaining on back roads.
