  • @Joneslovestbones What a zipper head cunt

  • @1STINITIATE Ya think ;-)

  • i'm going to see chris thile next wednesday night. when i found out he is going to play at the club i work at i almost shit myself. i'm so fucking excited.

  • Extreme Robert Pattinson lookalike! Absoloutely amazing!

  • wouldn't it be awesome to make a good living at being really good at what you love to do?

  • I didn't know Jude Law played the mandolin

  • @RodGM7685 If I could like your comment 100,000 times...........

  • By any classical musicians standards, that is excellent playing!!

  • There aren't many more soothing sounds in the world to me than someone playing a mandolin. When I was in school there was a boy who would play the mandolin during lunch and breaks, and it always calmed me. He adored Chris Thile. I hope he makes it as a mandolin player =)

  • The guy is a flippin ace ! To the idiot that said he made a mistake ...> Try not to be such a pc of $hit and get a clue .

    Great video and thanks !!!!!!!!

  • @1STINITIATE Yeah, let's hear you play it Jackass!

  • Ha, he's not perfect, I heard a mistake at 2:30. That, somehow, comforts me. ):

  • @TheStuartVeriguine hes the closest thing to perfect Ive ever seen..

  • 260 bpm... fuck

  • Without the first generation there would be nothing.

    Love Chris

  • I'd like to hear all 6 partitas and sonatas!

  • The best mando player? If he's not, he soon will be.

  • He really needs to learn how to play.

  • for those that asked for tab.. wwwDOTclasstabDOTorg this ones listed under Bach BWV1006a Lute Suite No 4 in E

  • For some reason I listen to this song when I'm depressed and stressed out, I feel better after listening to it 4-5 times.

  • Chris Thile plays Bach the same way a hip hop dancer would do ballet. I like him much better when he plays Bluegrass.

With this being said: no doubt the guy can play....

  • @lsmab I couldn't disagree more with that statement. You should listen to more than one of his classical interpretations before making that statement. He technique is very soulful and his timbre and attack are precise for the pieces I've heard him play.

  • "Does any one have tabs for this?" DONT EVEN.

  • @JazzBluesClassical42 You do realize that all classical musicians learn from written music, right? I don't see what the big deal is if someone asks for tabs, its just another form of written music. Get over it.

  • All the pre-70s mandolinists are rubbish... bill monroe, for example, can't pick the right string hahaha and they still made him famous for stealing music from the farmers. He is a conservative just like the president. Thankyou to people like Sam Bush and Chris here for learning to play before they went pro.

  • A complete pleasure! The wonder of Bach is that his music addresses all genres from even before his own time through to blues and jazz. It shows us through the mirror that is music our most humane self. Every musician the world over should bow their head in thanks to him.

I enjoyed your performance very much!

  • WOW.

  • Nice stuff...and very well played

  • Quel bonheur et un grand merci!!!!!

  • I think he looks like robert pattinson...

  • @thefrozensnowshoe Chris Thile actually has talent though

  • @thefrozensnowshoe ahahahahahahahahahahaaaaa

  • This guy....is breaking my heart. What a stud.

  • @caincaincain. I believe so.

  • Actually, this piece is included in Mike Marshall's Sonatas and Partitas by JS Bach (p. 34). These are written out in standard notation and TAB.

  • @mcutler71 is it similar to this version?

  • blown away...wow

  • bravo enseñamela hihihi

  • imagine playing that whole thing, then missing the last note. what a heartbreak

  • I`m sorry, but he looks like the guy from twilight.

  • @PedroTightShorts

Actually, the guy from Twilight looks like him. As he has had this basic style of hair for several years before the movie even came out. I know you're just pointing it out, but comments like this always bug me. They judge people based on what's popular not taking into account whether or not said person being judged has had or done said thing before the popular "landmark" came into being.

  • @RoofTopPiano I guess that opens the argument of chronology vs. ubiquity. As ridiculous as it is, Chris Thile is relatively unknown outside of certain circles while twilight is EVERYWHERE.

  • @RoofTopPiano -- aaaand, Chris Thile looks like just about any random English dude who doesn't care about his hair... as Rob Pattenson has pointed out, he doesn't understand why people like his hair, because that's just the way all the blokes over there wear their hair when they don't care about how it looks. xD

but, anyway, I agree with your post. Bugs me too.

  • well he actually didnt put one fret to make the clear sound at all...if he played it less fast it would sound way better...fastness is not always the best (maybe for americans and their bluegrass musik ok...but not in classical music)

  • anyone have the tab for this?

  • @SG4LProductions sorry buddy i dont think anyone tabs out Bach! you can find the sheet music at the IMSLP/ Petrucci Library. The piece is the Prelude to Bachs Partita for solo violin #3 in E Major BWV 1006. Some positions might not be clear from the sheet music but the video here helps for most of finding the fingerings. That's half the fun, eh?

  • @SG4LProductions hI sg4lpro, i have some tab for this on guitar if you want it. Cheers, Joe.

  • @joebsus4 I hope it's for mandolin.

  • Chris is gifted to the extreme with a musical brain and with his fine motor skills. It takes both to be a true virtuoso.

  • I like those socks! . . . he really is amazing though!!! I love "Fox" from Nickel Creek's first album

  • i play mandolin too, i'm quite good actually but im soooooo fuckin far away from chris thile, it would be so awesome to get just one single lesson from him!!! :D

  • Pure soul and beauty.

  • Please have the camera focus on the right hand. Great performance.

  • cuz he is playing to fast he doenst really press the frats clear so there are not many good tones...speed doesnt always matter

  • the song.. the mandolin.. the guy playing it? all like WOW... the camera person? took away from the performance

  • That's some serious picking technique

  • Agree with khickie100. I thought his bluegrass-ness would have gotten in the way of him "getting" this piece, but it seems not. He's just a musician, and I'm just a snob, apparently.

  • Fantastic, I had to laugh a bit at the end just out of amazement. Chris Thile has the craziest right hand, was fun to only see a blur and never really a solid pick.

  • i have given up completely trying to understand what it is about this guy that makes him one of the best mandolin players, nay musicians, to ever live. his touch and feel on the mandolin and the expertise which which he phrases this piece is simply mind boggoling!

  • Jaw is on floor. Getting in way of practicing my mandolin.... Wow.

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you YouTube for suggesting this video.

  • Yeah Baby!

  • Watching this is like an auditory catharsis from most music on the radio.

  • Beautiful.

  • B"H This has put a new fire under me! I am practicing after work! Thanks always Chris!

  • thank you chris, from the bottom of a million hearts. brilliant.

  • ten people were KISS fans

  • wow

  • Anyone else see Mandolin Hero catching on?

  • Beautiful piece. I wish I could play like that...

  • Veramente eccezionale

  • Ten dislikes...WHAT?!! That was beautiful!

  • Thile is the master.. He really does make these Bach pieces look so easy! Especially the part where it crosses three strings.. to have such control and to be able to keep the notes subtle while going lightning fast! and 2:09 on of courses is really awesome too.. Aaand that mandolin is incredible! this video is just perfect. i gotta go practice more..

PLEASE put the bonus disc of these performances on iTunes so i can spend my money on it...!

  • Can anyone tell me what kind of jeans Chris is wearing in this video?

  • Here, ladies and gentlemens, the best mandolin player that has lived in the face of earth, CHRIS THILE¡¡¡¡¡.

  • my daughter plays the mandolin and the violin. she's played the bach partitas and sonatas on the violin - this is amazing. chris thile continues to impress.

  • good lord. for anyone who has never played mandolin. its a lot more difficult than chris thile makes it look. the strings are much harder to press down than a guitar.

these runs he's pulling off are just amazing.

  • There are many undiscovered talented individuals out there...

Pick up that instrument and continue practising !

My father always said to me.

"If he can do it so can you."

  • AMAZING!

  • I wasn't aware that Robert Pattinson played mandolin, lmao

  • hotness

  • Can I have your hair please?

  • @giggleblaggle - Hey, I used to think that way as well. Chew on this thought for moment. If you can play well enough to communicate what is in your heart to your listeners, you win. Talent matters not so much as what we do with it. God Bless.

  • questo e' il video e audio piu' bello riguardante la musica di J.S.Bach di tutto youtube

questa e' perfezione, pace dei sensi, nonostante il tempo velocissimo di Chris(molto probabilmente il miglior mandolinista del XXI secolo)

  • q obrota severa pieza . niceeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Well...I quit. No more music for me. I just can't even practice anymore knowing that this is what's out there for me to compare to. Nope. Throwing all my instruments away. He's too danged good.

  • @giggleblaggle he's playing someone else's work dude. You can do this too with enough time. The hardest part is the memorization.

  • @giggleblaggle I play guitar and I used to think that way as well but after a while I figured out theres definitely a lot more to music than comparing yourself to the upper echelon of musicians. You can play some pretty simple songs and still have fun playing them and hearing yourself play them, hell maybe even adding a few little runs of your own to something thats already out there... There's plenty of enjoyment to be had out of music without getting paid a penny for it.

  • YEAH!!!

  • Anyone who dislike this has their tastes in their mouths.

  • haha... sheet music pl0x :D? this guy is my frickin' hero!

  • @kenshin1224 try the IMSLP, this is part of the E major partita BWV 1006.

  • very nice music!

  • GOD. DAMN. DAT RIGHT HAND.

  • The people who disliked are just haters!

  • Thats crazy shit

  • This is...beyond brilliant. I honestly have no words for how perfect this is.

  • Pure genius. Both Bach and Thile...

  • Nice performance

  • What kind of madalin is that?

  • @TheHornet79

If I'm not mistaken it's made by Lynn Dudenbostel

  • @velochelonian You are correct, it is Dudenbostel #5.

  • blonde rob pattinson

  • Wow, I was amazed at the ebb and flow of Thile's dynamics--and couldn't disagree more with camounteer

  • Six people have no brain.

  • I see that WNCW sticker. :)

  • Great camera angles.

Way to make me feel inadequate, Thile.

Feck. Off to burn my mandolin.

  • O' the flare of super genius.

  • how can you dislike this?

  • @camounteer you have no idea what you are talking about!

  • @camounteer Wow. If you had ever seen Thile maybe you'd know that he actually oozes emotion and feeling when he plays. Just his facial expressions alone are about as emotional as anything.

  • @camounteer With respect, bullshit...

  • WOW..........I love this guys work.Very inspiring to a wanna be mandolin player like me.

  • ... or 6 people mistook him for Robert Pattinson

  • 6 people think that Chris is playing a guitar. fools.

  • Is it bad that if Chris Thile is in the video I like it before it even loads?

  • Jude Law is an amazing mandolin player.

  • Chris Thile is one of those guys that words can not describe. His talent level is so high that it can not be measured. The interesting thing about him as a player is that a lot of people profess that he "hot dogs" it to much in a group setting which i've never heard from him but I met him about 2 years ago at a bluegrass festival and he is one of the most genuine sincere people I have ever met. Great talent

  • Child prodigy grows into his enormous talent. Thank you brother.

  • He is absolutely one of the most talented men on the planet. Been listening to Nickel Creek since I can't even remember. This is beyond incredible. :)

  • @natconnors =)

  • @natconnors

Are you implying that people who play videogames can't enjoy great music? Also, three periods would have sufficed; I believe your excess use of over twenty to be redundant. So bam.

Oh yeah, Chris Thile is amazing. So is Bach. Chris Thile + Bach = :D

  • @Getannoying Well said sir.

  • fantastic!

  • Bravo!

  • of course his mandolin says Hole on the top... no it's not the brand, he just needed to show that he was indeed having sex to one.

  • he seems to use a thin pick, unlike the normal Bluegrass players that use a 1mm or thicker...God i hate Bach, it even hurys my throat to pronounce it however this is mezmerizing..........

  • Thile is the master of mandolin. I can listen to him all day and still find things that I never heard before in a song. A lot of kids pick up mandolin because of him.

  • @klowery12x a lot of kids quit mandolin because of him too...

  • Sorry, but that was HOT.

  • Comment removed

  • The level of recall alone to remember the piece in its entirety is impressive by itself.

  • DAT RIGHT HAND

  • That is great!

I am Bach's lover sine my childrenhood.

This guy can play Bach and "Rye Whiskey".... Unbelievable. He also knows a lot about wine. Read, please, the last issue of The Wine Spectator.

  • Now THIS is real music.

  • This is purely magical!

  • Comment removed

  • I like how he just sits there with his feet calmly crossed and resting on the mandolin case. "Oh, you know, amazing and complex mandolin playing, no biggie, you guys."

  • Amazing.

  • The only thing that makes his ability to play this any more ridiculous is the fact that he plays it from memory.... I honestly don't understand what planet he is from.

  • @Medium0Rare Musicians do that a lot. Check out classical violinists or cellists or anything!

  • @Medium0Rare only people who dont play instruments or at least only with notes can think this....playing by heart is very easy. this peace IS easy

  • @omoshiroidayo so where's the video of you playing it by heart?

  • Awesome picking technique. I just ordered his dvd. I'm hoping it will also help my alternate picking on the guitar as well.

  • Team Jacob?

    Team Edward?

    No.

    Team Chris Thile.

  • @colbychristina LOL he kinda has that Edward look to him though.

  • I think he is playing a sratavarios violin. It sounds as good! Chris is an awesome player.

  • Beautiful - not many get the dynamics right, but when they do...

  • perfect

  • perfect, grat.

  • I think the instrument is a Dudenbostel

  • Amazing

  • HOLY CRAP! He's got a WNCW 88.7 sticker on his case! That's the local radio station at my community college! How wicked is that! I feel good to come from this "small town friendly" North Carolina. :)

  • @DMBwbg89

Agreed, more people need to listen to WNCW

  • amazing!... ans lovely!

  • this is insane....

  • what type of mandolin is he playing here?

  • I'm impressed, I expected that he would barely be able to get all the notes on such a small instruments with relatively high tension, but he actually pulled it off and even played it musically

  • Awesome right hand.

    I need one !

  • God has blessed this man

  • wow, seriously, wow!

  • he is an otherworldly master of the mando. im in love with those fingers.

  • Thile is the only one ive seen who plays this in a comparable way to Millstiein. IF you idiots want to look up a Bach violin prodigy look up Millstein

  • what prelude is this?

  • Violin Partita #3 in E major. There are 3 partitas and 3 sonatas for solo violin usually sold as a 2-CD set. Every major violinist has done them (Henryk Szeryng CRANKS), and Eliot Fisk - guitar, Nigel North - lute.

  • @stubhead Thanks man. Alot more thorough than i thought the reply would be.

  • I watch this and cannot help but smile. Chris Thile is simply one of the best musicians on the planet. Amazing.

  • I can't believe there are 5 people who hit the dislike button. Insane.

  • @cigelow

agreed. something is wrong with them. i held my breath while i was watching this. he amazes me

  • @cigelow those .. 6 are all beber fans upset it's not beber

  • @cigelow

    they should be disqualified

  • @cigelow seriously, this is amazing

  • you are watching a musical genius at work

  • Most pure musician... ever

  • this is sweet
