It is a bug.
But the item which is disappear goes into the inventory already, not just disappear. I used this technique all the time I played the game.

Its not a bug, its meant to do that. Zero is just a Buster character who is already maxed. He is not meant to pick up subtanks and heart tanks because if he did his health bar would glitch and his Item screen would glitch too (even though he cant do anything in it)
