@JimBizzob actually, if you look up the history of it, it was north korea alone. China only took part (and soviet union indirectly) once the UN led by the US decided to help south korea. As Mc Arthur himself put it, the goal was to get across the Yalu river. But yes, I agree with you that they were exactly where they started, resulting in pointless loss of lives (massive chinese loss and biggest US loss after ww2) as well as pitting brothers against each other.
