The scene peaked around 1986-87, after that it became as overripe as alot of the fruits you see in this documentary. The talented artists then are still around today, the rest all dropped off and had to get real jobs.
I dunno about you guys, but when I first saw this doc several years ago..I laughed my ass off the whole way through. Unfortunately, kids who listen to metal these days have NO sense of humor. Watch the damn movie and enjoy how ridiculous (yet incredibly talented) the 80's rock scene was.

As entertaining as this doc was, they emphasized too much on the obscure Glam bands, where are Whitesnake, Motley Crue, Dokken or Ratt?? I wished they interviewed Alice Cooper, Lemmy, Paul Stanley and Ozzy more too, they had the most insightful words....and of course they used Megadeth, not only the BEST thrash band, but the best looking one too (except Chuck haha)

@GlamTillDeath Well, he did get addicted to drugs before then. It's hard to get off of them. And they've made plenty of songs about the negative effects of drugs. He might have been talking about how he doesn't like how the other bands glorify the drugs sometimes. I'm not saying that it's impossible for him to be hypocritical, but I'm also saying that there might be a different side to it.

He was ALSO once Megadeth's Drummer in the mid 90s. As Was James Lomenzo, Former White lion, GLAM band, bassist was just not that long ago a member of Megadeth as well.

@TheE1961 The difference is the real metal bands played for the music. If sex, drugs and fame came along then they might embrace it. But for most of the bands the music was a priority. As Frank Bello says "I'd rather have a good riff and good song that im proud of that have my dick sucked" lol. And alot of famous bands stayed away from the hard drugs e.g. Maiden, Anthrax, Slayer.

I like this movie. Really gives you a look into the world of Rock N' Roll. These guys all seem pretty cool. Even though alot of em' never finished high school they've got alot of experience and good life lessons under their belt. Lemmy seems like a really cool guy. So does everyone else except Dave Mustaine who just seems to be bitter at everyone elses success. He's a smart man but definetly needs to enjoy life more. Chris Holmes needs to lay off the liquor too.

Haha, They were the most fake hair metal band. I love Slaughter, Winger, Motley Crue, Steelheart, Great White, Firehouse, etc... But thrash metal is just more straight up and real to me. Funny looking back... easy to see now at 40 that Megadeth was far better than Metallica. I rarely even listen to the shit now. Funny to think that I lined up at midnight when I was 21 to but the Black album and how much I tried to like it but just couldn't. Wish they would have stopped with the death of Cliff like Zeppelin did. At least Megadeth kept putting out good material even if I thought less of them. I don't anymore.............

That was almost prophetic, what Mustaine said about his arm--he had a hard road coming back after his accident. I saw Megadeth opening for Sabbath with Dio a few years ago, and thought Megadeth ruled the night; and I love Sabbath.
I love this. I try to watch this movie every 7.3 years or so. It's kind of a time capsule of what was happening at the time. I'm going to look up some of those bands who said they are on their way and see what happened to them.
I'm looking at the comments and seeing that people are talk about the only good bands ( KISS Megadeth, Ozzy and aerosmith) but i'm seeing a serious lack of Motorhead. Lemmy Kilmister is giving some indispensable advice here.
this documentary is amazing it gives you an insight into why this type of music stopped being taken seriously, there were posers and there were really rockstars(aerosmith,kiss,megadeth). the point of this is to show us the difference between the people who make it and the people who dont, and in the end the people who ended up getting categorized were the ones that were just imitating and not inovating.

I love Alice Cooper's music but every interview I see him in, he's always implying that he's the best, he started every trend, and everyone else is just copying him. @TheE1961 The difference is the real metal bands played for the music. If sex, drugs and fame came along then they might embrace it. But for most of the bands the music was a priority. As Frank Bello says "I'd rather have a good riff and good song that im proud of that have my dick sucked" lol. And alot of famous bands stayed away from the hard drugs e.g. Maiden, Anthrax, Slayer.

I like this movie. Really gives you a look into the world of Rock N' Roll. These guys all seem pretty cool. Even though alot of em' never finished high school they've got alot of experience and good life lessons under their belt. Lemmy seems like a really cool guy. So does everyone else except Dave Mustaine who just seems to be bitter at everyone elses success. He's a smart man but definetly needs to enjoy life more. Chris Holmes needs to lay off the liquor too.

Haha, They were the most fake hair metal band. I love Slaughter, Winger, Motley Crue, Steelheart, Great White, Firehouse, etc... But thrash metal is just more straight up and real to me. Funny looking back... easy to see now at 40 that Megadeth was far better than Metallica. I rarely even listen to the shit now. Funny to think that I lined up at midnight when I was 21 to but the Black album and how much I tried to like it but just couldn't. Wish they would have stopped with the death of Cliff like Zeppelin did. At least Megadeth kept putting out good material even if I thought less of them. I don't anymore.............

this documentary is amazing it gives you an insight into why this type of music stopped being taken seriously, there were posers and there were really rockstars(aerosmith,kiss,megadeth). the point of this is to show us the difference between the people who make it and the people who dont, and in the end the people who ended up getting categorized were the ones that were just imitating and not inovating.
