in my opinion phil spector ruined this and let it down with over production. this shouldve been left more organic then a "wall of sound". it shoulve been treated like "If Not For You" less screaming saxaphones and loose instrumentals
i got the 30th edition today wasnt fortunate enough to be around when they came out. They included the acoustic version of Let it Down which i prefer much more then the over produced version on the album. I wish they added this track as well, this song needed nothing
Going to learn this on guitar! George lives on in the people who's lives he touched, whether by knowing him personally, or being inspired, and touched by his beautiful music.
I wholeheartedly believe that this song was written with Paul in mind. On the surface, the lyrics are beautiful, but sad as well. Their relationship was breaking, however, the fact that George even bothered to write it shows how deep his love was, and always remained, for Paul.
This song for me is about how george feels being put down by paul and how paul and the rest are not realizing the genius of his works. George is simply the world most underrated musician.
I'm sure Spector alone can not be blamed for the production of ATMP. Harrison arranged the massive band and hired Spector to do the post-production. On the Cosmic Empire demo, Harrison says "this one is just full of chorus voices", and after he finishes "there would hardly be any voice there" meaning his lead voice would be drowned by the chorus voices and to me suggests that Harrison's vision all along was a dense "wall of sound." He went the other way with his follow up material, though.
@subg88 ATMP is a Hall of Fame album. For that Spector should receive full credit for producing a fantastic album, not put down as an over producing moron.
Always my favorite, George's music went straight through to me. His lyrics was somewhat obscure, aged like a fine wine and have developed more and more depth for me, as I've aged in and through this wonderful life.
Ok here is a question?... when was the last time George and Paul recorded together?...I have always thought that this song was George's "how do you sleep?" the subject in this song seems to me to be Paul...a song about the beatle breakup but more specifically it is about the loss of a relationship between George and Paul... and ask yourself when was the last time they (george and paul ) recorded together.. johngeorgeandrichy recorded together post fab four but never with sir smooth. Ya reckon?
@daisyroots How do you sleep was a john lennon song with george on guitar. George and paul recorded together on "All those years ago" And during the anthology sessions.
@bigshoes1233211 I have to say I like the real version better. The lyrics arn't as rushed in the real version. People always say they like different versions of songs better than the real version mostly because they've heard the real version so many times that any other version is like a breathe of fresh air.
@ruufeeooh While we are bashing Phil, lets all remember the debacle that first put Phil Spector together with John and George..... Let it Be, Raspberry!
@DasGoldenBoy It's funny, that has always been the knock on "Let It Be" but the record lives in infamy as a very popular album. The songs are historical... I guess when you think about it, it's really one hell of an album. Spector wasn't the problem, hell, he produced "Imagine" John's best solo LP. Course, Lennon rented Harrison for the great Slide Guitar work on the album. Man, that brings back memories......
This CD is still out there, it took me a while to find a new copy of it...I highly recommend it ... I've read that George wasn't aware it was being taped...he was going over his newly written songs with Phil Spector and someone sat a mike up..thus this CD was born.
@kitestop1 sometimes i wonder if the real title was Beware of Yoko... but he changed it to preserve his friendship with Lennon... but kept it close enough for people to figure it out.
abkco is a record company. the beatles were signed to it for a time. i imagine it was probably a joke referring to the fact george only had a couple songs on each album, and all the other ones he wrote ended up here. beware of abkco. just my thoughts.
Klien took over as the Bealtes manager (although only only George, Ringo, and John accepted him as such) a year or so after Brian Epstein died. He was also manager of the Rolling Stones, as well.
Klein is widely known as the greediest, most corrupt jerk in the entire music business. He was so bad, in fact, that George used a title to warn the world of ABKCO (Alan Klein).
@Dmayuiers Sooooo true. Klein was the most greediest, most corrupt b*stard in the music world. & even though he's in his grave, his company STILL carry on his ruthless domination. ABKCO have got me two warnings from youtube because of his stranglehold on early Stones recordings, 1 more & my account is deleted. I positively loathe him & his company. B*stards...the lot of em : (
@Rabbit1Lee no doubt.they have no intentions of utilizing these recordings.they just dont want anyone listening to them.even if they did put them out, people who have enjoyed the samples would buy them.i would.at least i know what i am paying for.
@Dmayuiers Yeah I love the interview where John says something along the lines of "with regards to Allen Klein lets just say that a lot of the stuff Paul was saying for years is true" - you know that took a LOT for John to admit that, but he did. George seems to have known at this point...or would soon figure it out after ABKCO screwed up the Bangla Desh thing.
Wow. Lovely guitar accompaniment, too (it reminds me of Nick Drake, or perhaps Nick Drake reminds one of acoustic Harrison).
Many of these acoustic demo and bootlegs show Harrison's now well-known songs as gems, and often better than in their over-produced versions, in which the guitar practically disappears (e.g., "Dark Horse") under a clutter of studio musician over-finesse.
Perhaps the estate should consider releasing a "Harrison Unplugged/Acoustic" collection!
How fantastic to hear something like this and be exposed to the process! The finished product is not the only gem--the whole process has a beauty, but we don't often get to see it. It is great for musicologists, historians and fans to have something like this available. We're lucky to have this, but even luckier to have had George Harrison
absolutely beautifull...

@KnokKnokProductions Yeah I agree, it would have sounded better if it was more organic. But George was friends with Phil and knew he needed a job.
