@gary676 It really doesn't matter - it's just the sound of the music that's really important! I am very lucky to be able to play tunes that people like. Jon.
@JTSarvida I'm sorry to say there is NO sheet music for this arrangement - I play by ear and made this up at the time of this performance. I never play it exactly the same way twice! 'Wish I could be more help - best wishes in your musical endeavors. Jon E.
hi sir you were so awesome!!!! i love the way you play the piano...i hope one day i can play just like sir...for the meantime i just managed to use a keyboard because im still a begginer...great sir!
@pianintar Thank you for your kind appreciation - I hope one day that you will play much BETTER than I.... remember to always be yourself and not compare yourself to others. Everyone must begin somewhere - good luck and best wishes. Jon
This is so AMAZING hehehe... you're my inspiration!!!
I really love PIANO, in fact i cannot complete my day without playing a single song in my piano..... you're really great!!! more blessings to come!! ^_^
a JOB WELL DONE!!! ^_^ ---- Anthony from the Philippines
@arukasai223 Thankyou Anthony - I'm so glad you like the music AND that you play yourself. 'Hope you always enjoy doing so - music is, indeed, a blessing. Jon
Generally speaking, I don't much care for variations on an original theme. Preferring, instead, to opt for the original composer's idea of time etc. However, this version of Chopin's Nocturn in E demands that I listen to it over and over again and, when I do, it's like I'm hearing it for the first time...........it's wonderful.
Played with so much colour, feeling, tenderness and warmth, Jon England certainly gives it a warm glow. Well done, sir. Bravo!
@Akinon033 Thank you sincerely for your kind appreciation - as I can't read music, my interpretations tend to vary over time - it's good to know there are 'flexibly-considerate' audience members! 'kindly - Jon England
Just to add some unqualified praise, your execution is flawless! it inspires me to take more care with my own playing. Listening to different performers, it's amazing how much sloppiness even "big names" can get away with. You must be a perfectionist and it shows, very very good performance here. thanks for this variation
oh this just makes me confused in so many ways. I thought "variations on a theme" would answer it, but now it leaves me wondering what makes a piece a piece and not another piece? and why is there such a huge gap between classical and popular music? My mother drilled into my that classical music is Playing The Notes That Are Written, but... that does not seem sufficient to me now. well I would be your worst live audience ever, just sitting silent at the end trying to decide my own reaction!!
I was a kid when I saw the Eddy Duchin story and was mesmerized by Cavallaro's playing. You come very close to it and I only wish I had your abilities. Great playing. I would love to watch you play in person some day.
To Love Again is the other title of this composition. You have magnificently played this beautiful, classic music. I thank you for having this shared to all. More power to you ( :
Thank you for your observation and appreciation Nancy - you have a wonderful selection of music on your channel too. I hope you choose to subscribe to my channel where I have a weekly music show performing classics, standards and viewer requests.
thank you very much. Your categorization of my interpretation is spot on, it IS a 'variation' - some observers have mis-interpreted my piece as an endeavor (a cheeky one at that) to re-write Chopin's masterpiece - but it isn't. It's a respectful and decorative tribute.
Jon comes with no pretentious strings attached, just raw talent. This nocturne spits in the face of the classical world. Jon broke every rule in the book with this recording, and snooty elites in conservatories everywhere are wetting their tuxes. Jon didn't aspire to be a rebel, but a rebel he is - and a gutsy one at that. A timid fellow would never do what Jon has done, which is piss off the classical world with his intoxicating music, and I love him for it. Goulda would be proud.
The piece (Chopin's E-flat Nocturne is, I believe) very widely available through classical sheet music stores. As I don't/can't read any music, I don't have it - so there's no 'sheet' for THIS exact performance. I make up my 'versions' each time I play...! 'Hope you find it and enjoy. Jon
PS I just looked at your website and the clip of your interview with ABC NEWS and you come across as a thoroughly decent and likeable man. I believe very strongly in telling people good things to their face a)because lots of people will do the opposite in life, and b) because I'm training to become a Catholic Priest and believe the world is made better by having fine people in it.
I'll say a prayer for you, your family, and your continued success. More power to you, sir!
"your notion about telling people only good things is somewhat naive"... I said nothing of the sort. I'm not interested in continuing a conversation of this nature. It is a very odd thing to say the least. I regard it as basic good manners that if one has nothing good to say *to a stranger* then one should say nothing at all to that stranger. That seems the basic premise upon which everyday social interaction depends. And it hurts no one. Good old fashioned kindness.
Interestingly enough, I agree and disagree with daxispiano at the same time. First of all, I'd like to point out that there's a huge difference between being completely "note-ilitterate", and having a basic knowledge of the structure in notation and scores. In the case of the latter, people who play by ear are probably relying in part on this aforementioned knowledge.
To daxis: I do play by ear and at the same time I can read the notes and sightread. There are some very talented ppl who can play by ear, without the score and it's exactly the same as the original.Music is an art, it's up to the person to change things :), Keeping to the original will be a tribute to the composer who had composed such wonderful music.
you are easily one of the best pianists who ever lived. if not the best. one question, do you compose? because if you do then you"re probably a modern day mozart
Hey, i also play professionally, as i have been playing for 17years plus...
I read music however I am mostly known to play music by ear, as i can pick up any music you want me to play almost.
I play most musics by the pianist DINO with his playtracks. I was wondering if you sell, or how can i get that play track for "the love story"? if thats ever possible?
Mr. England is a very good and talented pianist. But your statement is so exaggerating which makes me wonder if you really mean it or not... If you do, try listening to some classical pianists and you may see what I mean. Oh and one more thing, no one in history can be entitled Mozart except himself. If only you truely knew who Mozart really is.
Simply BRILLIANT!!! I have heard many versions of the traditional version played, and whilst consistent with the original intent, your arrangement brings "new life" to the piece, and yet maintains true to the composer's intent ... that's why it's BRILLIANT!!!
this is the first video ive seen of you. and ive never seen classical music improvised.. your truly..awesome ,sorry cant think of a better word but i think you know what i mean haha
Excellent performance. Better than the original composer, Chopin. Btw, do you know where I can get your score sheet or your CD? I live in HK. I think that it is kinda difficult, isn't it?
Sorry - but I don't read music so I have no score/sheet of this piece (or any other!) You may be able to find it as a Film Score - it was used in "The Eddy Duchin Story" (called "To Love Again") played by Carmen Cavallaro. Good luck, and thank you for the compliments
Your comment sums up many on pages that include this piece. We are honored to live in Jon's time and to be graced with such a humble man as he who can tolerate the harsh, anonymous critisicms he gets, more for this piece than for any other. I urge you to buy his CD's. You won't be sorry you did. I downloaded mine to my PC at work and let it play throughout the day. I thought those around me would hate it and to my suprise and delight, they love it to!

It's superb stuff. I'm not the world's greatest fan of giving density to Chopin BUT for what it is, it is good.
You clearly have a superb talent.
And the Lord gave it to you for good reason. After all, as we say in Rome, "Sit nomen domini canticum novum" - Let the name of the Lord be a new song!
Pax tecum.
Keep it up.
