I've just been reading a book by this new independent author called J. E. Bryant. He sells it on his own site, but it was a fun read, and a good fantasy story; I hope he finishes another soon!
Rabid fans eh, ignore the fanboys or girls complaining and take comfort that the final volumes of Robert Jordan's magnum opus will be completed in just two years. The series has impressed me over the years, i got to read the books Robert Jordan's scope and imagination as a writer is the very type of writer i aspire to be. It's bad i only found out he died two years after but RIP James Oliver Rigney AKA Robert Jordan for creating a series of equal quality to Tolkien.
Brandon Sanderson explained why book twelve is going to be three parts on his website. To sum it up, Tor wanted him to wrap up the whole series in 250,000 words. And the more he wrote, the more he realized he couldn't get away with any less than 800,000 words. To write that much, revise it as a whole, and publish it as a whole, we wouldn't see it before 2012. And it would take up a whole shelf. This way we get one book every(hopefully) November for the next three years.

Very nice video. I was curiuos, though, what you think about the fact that Book 12 is gonna be published in THREE BOOKS!? That's gonna make it 20 years to tell the damned story! That's right, THREE BOOKS! Jesus H Christ! What a fucking joke. Does this story have a problem with ending? I wanna puke! Not once, but twice. Two full heavings to get the puke out!
You know what? Fuck you! You should be thankful that the series is getting finished at all, you spoiled little shit! If the publishers feel like the story would be best served in three more volumes, then you need to trust their judgement and stop complaining about it! What an ungrateful, pampered people we have become, I swear to God! Be thankful for what you're getting and stop bitching!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You're a joke. The only thing that would be best served by this colossal outrage (20 years and 14 books is both collosal and outrageous) is the publishers' bottom line. REVENUE. That's it. It's called cupidity (some may say commercial reailty). Even Jordan himself fell victim to this money monster (the series was stretched from 6 books to 12 not to enhance the story but to cash in on its success, which isn't art but a commercial crime). Success can corrupt people, and often does.
You might be right about Jordan, I don't know, but it pisses me off when people jump Sanderson's ass over the length of the final entry. First of all, he just came into this mess recently. Secondly, he isn't getting paid any more money than was already agreed upon just because the last book was split into three, and thirdly, he just wants to do right by the story and the fans.
Besides, the last three are going to be released in an omnibus edition in the end, so just wait and buy that version.
Exactly. That guy has bitched about the books on at least one other youtube wot video.
Some peeps aint happy unless they got somethin to bitch about.
The way i see it, quit bitching and just enjoy the books. Not many authors could write an epic this complex or as well written. So shut up and enjoy the ride. And be thankful that the series is being FINISHED AT ALL. If not, quit reading them if it bothers you that much.
I kinda agree, im on my second reading of the books and i love them but the length is kinda ridiculous. I recomend this seris to friends and they always say its just way too long. Making the last book to 3 is just dragging this seris on and i have a feeling its going loose potential fan base because of it. 12 books is enough please just finish it lol.
It's definitely a sad/amazing story all wrapped up in too short of a lifetime. I just finished book 6. I have been keeping my eye on the last book and the way it's being handled from RJ's wife, publisher, and author. There's a lot of tender loving care going into the creation of it. From what I could find, RJ wrote the last 50k words and left audio and notes. While not as good as what he would have done, I have no doubt it will be a great tribute and conclusion to his life's work.
You are an excellent speaker, and that was a lovely tribute to him. They say that Tolkien built the base of high fantasy, well he just built the bloody castle :)
ive been following the series for 7 years and it's very depressing he died before he could finish. but it will end the way he wanted it to, his wife and his assistant will be finishing it. he recorded the ending and got out 10+ years of notes for "in memory of light".
may you always find water and shade robert jordan thank you for keeping me company through some of the hardest times in my life without the wheele of time i know i would never have got through those times thank you so verry much mate r.i.p.
Wheel of time is the best fantasy series but its so damn complex! as complex as our own world. RIP Robert Jordan. I heard that his friends are gonna finish the last book for him.
Good one maximuswynn. With you on that all the way. God bless Roberts soul. He made the arguably greatest fantasy epic ever =D To me, his book's were the best I will EVER read.
Wow! The bible is really old and has sold billions of copies. The writing is really good and the content is extremely life changing.
I started reading the WOT series in 1992 and it wasted a lot of my time with the 5-7 books that don't make sense. If you think about it, you are dying right now and will never finish your life's work - get to it!

Yea, I found that quote really neat too! Haha, I was telling one of my friends I could just picture him at his funeral popping up, "Wait! One more thing!"

@livingpassion Hey! Your use of improper grammar is disgusting. Would you care to explain why you feel like you are above the rules of society? I feel your pain man. I loved reading Robert Jordans books. When I heard he died I just couldn't bring myself to look at the books for abit. Hopefully Tor will see the book is completed and ended the way RJ wanted it.. GG Robert Jordan!
I saw an interview with him just a few days before he passed with him saying that he was more determined then ever to beat his illness. He remained defiant until the very end.
" Till shade is gone, till water is gone,
into the Shadow with teeth bared,
screaming defiance with the last breath,
to spit in Sightblinder's eye on the last Day." -Aiel Oath
I have loved his books, I have read and re-read the Wheel of Time series and they have touched me in a lot of ways. His writing has opened up the way I view the world, and world events. I am very sorry to hear that he has passed.
Thank you very much for the kind words in this video. Until you mentioned it, it never really occured to me how much RJ carried himself in that calm manner you talked about. This was a very nice tribute.
i have heard rumours that the eleventh is going to been finished by members of his friends and family but i don't think it will be quite the same. I am very upset because we may never know who killed Asmodean as he was going to reveal in the next book. My thoughts go to his friends and family in this hard time.
I would have liked to make a video but web cam is broken. Sorry if this all sounds a bit preachy but its how i feel! R.I.P. Robert Jordan.:(
I am truly devastated to hear of the death of Robert Jordan. Being heavily dyslexic i thank the wheel of time books for really helping me get into reading. I have been reading the wheel of time series since 2003 and am currently about a quarter of the way though crossroads into twilight and feel very sorry for all the people who have been reading since the first book in 1990 that may never know how it end.
very well done,I read all of his books, some tended to be overwritten, like Fires of Heaven, but for the most part the Wheel of Time series was probably the most excellent series right next to Lord of the Rings. I'll always remember Robert Jordan. At least he's happy now, like he made others happy.
I'm quite new in the wheel of time company of fans and readers (about 2 years). Having read up to the 7th book so far my life has changed. Jordan's writing is and will ever be a part of me. I was devastated the day i learned he died. This world is almost real. Epic in every sense. I don't know what else to say... I'm so so soooo sorry about that...
Thanks for your words, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who's feeling a real sence of loss right now. RJ inspired me to look at things in a larger perspective, which has really helped me to keep mine. It sucks not to have anyone to talk to about it, yet its good to know that others feel the same. such a tragedy. This is one of the most influencial writers i've experienced in the modern age. I pray for him, his wife, his family, and his other family, us... His literary followers. He will be missed. Shelter in the creators hand.
nice. i don't think i could hold it together enough to speak about it yet. he's easily my favorite author, and his concepts are spot-on. i advise anyone not to make light of his ideas, even though it's "fantasy". we're all connected, and living in a time where "the last battle" may be something we will see. RIP "old cuss".
Hi Poetess, I'm sure you've mentioned Robert Jordan before, I must check out his work. It's always good to see you on u-tube but when are you going to give us some more poetry? I'm getting help from some really good poets but you were the first and I miss your verse.
Luckily RJ started off by writing the very last pages, so he's always known how it was going to end. And his wife, Harriet, his editor and writer in her own right has said she will bridge the gap with what he's written of the last book and those last pages.
Ironically sad that the first 11 books were dedicated to her and the last will be for him.
I'm not familiar with this author, but I certainly know what it is to mourn the death of someone who was a great inspiration to you and feeling that their work was unfinished. I guess all we can do is be thankful for the work that was finished.
I have, for quite a long time, wanted to read the Wheel of Time series. It's depressing to discover that it won't ever be a fully complete series. Le sigh. Well, I hope ever so much that he was saved.
From what I understand, it will be finished from his notes. He has known he was ill for the last two years and has said in the past that his wife would help to finish the series in the event of his death. I can imagine that he did all he could to ensure they would be finished.
I'm certain there is. With the number of plot lines he has had going through the series he must have had to keep enough notes for 10 more books! He also always said that he knew how the series was going to end and could have written it from the beginning. I'm sure he made it known to someone... I HOPE

However, after watching your eulogy, we all have gained a deeper understanding of the impact that Robert Jordan has had on his fans lives. He obviously touched yours.

Nice memorial video. I checked him out on Amazon, the books seem interesting. Thanks!

Hi. We were the first people to watch your video. Some of the less sensitive people in our group were making insensitive comments about his death. However, after watching your eulogy, we all have gained a deeper understanding of the impact that Robert Jordan has had on his fans lives. He obviously touched yours.
