im 13 years old...and i am finishing the first book now...its is very complicated and deep...some of the guys out there might understand sthing completely different...but the japanese people is very very deep and hard to understand
@towelie86 A white WANNABE samurai? The man was a REAL Samurai, the worlds first white samurai. The story is based on William Adams. With very little changed in the telling. His family is still hereditary owners of the land and titles granted him by Tokugawa Ieyasu (Toranaga)
@towelie86 Blackthorn (the main protagonist of the novel Shogun by James Clavell) is a British sailor who is shipwrecked on Japan. He is given clothes by a Japanese lord, he's not a "samurai wannabe" in fact, he spends the majority of the novel trying to get away from Japan.
@towelie86 dude read the book, you fucking idiot. it's an english pirate that is taking as prisoner in feudal japan. they make him into a samurai, which is favorable for him in a strict caste system.
Mariko was lovely, and in a way was a role model to all of us females out there. She was beautiful, graceful, well educated and so beautifully spoken.
their love story is so touching... you chose a perfect song, it just suits them and their story so amazingly! again, nice vid, thank you very much! :)
This is the japanese equivalent to romeo and juliet in lots of ways, it is the greatest mini-series of all time and to cap it all off the soundtrack from the late great Maurice Jarre sends shivers down my spine everytime i hear it. A timeless classic
OMG are you fuckin kidding?? The lyrics are just perfect for the love story of Mariko San and Anjin San, it explains exactly what they lived together! And the music fit so well with everything, the melody was written for Anna and the king so it sounds very asian and so its perfect for the series!
I always appreciate negative comments cause its construcitve but this time it just has no sens lol I'm like VERY PROUD of the music I chose, it feels like it was actualy made for the series.
Obviously you never made a video, did you. Of course it matters, for me it does. When you make a video you spend hard time chosing the song cause it has to fit with everything. Melody, lyrics, feelings, etc. So when someone gives me some shit for no good reason, well I reply, indeed.
And yes of course it sounds asian dude you cant just deny it, its a CHINESE song. Thats why that other guy wrote that comment, he doesnt like the fact that I DARED to set a chinese song to a japanese story.
@megabulle Your choice of music is perfect. As a reader of the book and fan of the movie, it fits. There are those that feel the need to tear others work down. You are going to make films? Expect criticism from those less talented, and sometimes for no reason whatsoever. Thick skin. Though it will be hard.
I love this motion picture - Shogun - but I think that mixing this song with this scene is rather bold. I think it would be better to mix it with an extract from Mme Butterfly -Puccini
I'm reading the book, for the 150th time or so, and i never fail to be amazed by the sheer complexity of the story, and how much it makes you look into yourself and think.. i love this book, although the Anjin-Sama in the book was blue eyed with blonde hair as far as i can remember, and was well shaven, "these steel razors must be the best in the world" as he writes to Felicity, his wife in london... :-P Great upload btw, really made my day!
I was about 7 or 8 when I first saw this on TV and I fell in love with Mariko, so much so that after graduating College I moved to Japan and Found a Mariko of my own. Japanese women are a gift from the Gods
@megabulle Actually series was directed by Jerry London. With Clavell helping on the screen play with Eric Bercovici. But yes the series was as good in its' own right as the book.
@dwade1962eagle Totally agree with you! The book was freaking awesome, and the series was about as good as it could have possibly been. Not sure why they changed the scene where Yabu climbs down the cliff to save ... uh... the other Pilot into Yabu diving into the ocean, but most of the scenes were exactly as I pictured them in the book. Very pleased that Clavell had executive producer authority.
I just got done reading the book, I must say it was very good...kinda sucks what happened to mariko, but that is karma neh? But at least it got Kikku-San HUZZAH!!!!!
I was eight years old when the mini-series first aired and was still in the girl s are gross phaze. Holy cow, Yoko Shimada WOKE ME UP! The most beautiful woman I have ever seen and still is. Her performance was astonishing and it is a sin she did not win the Emmy. By the way, the book is probably my all time favorite. I read it every three years.

I can't believe that all this time, being blissfully ignorant that today I found out that Richard Chamberlain was GAY??? :S
All I can say is man what a waste!! All those scenes with the beautiful Mariko san was completely WASTED on a faggot! lol.
At least give it to a man who could appreciate her beauty and actually enjoy being around a woman such as her. Oh well. At least Richard was great in playing his part. =)
Very nice, the story is very interesting... i read the book, and i must say i was completely surprised... A very romantic story, read the book and then watch the movie...
One more thing: this must be made a devil himself, absolutely stunningly terrible song + video!

I believe they had him keep his full beard to show the contrast between himself and the Japanese.
If you remember in the book, he also had his hair done in a Japanese fashion too, I believe they kept it the way it was for the same reason.
Good video by the way. After reading the book I bought this mini-series. James Clavell is very good at creating a great love story.
