  • Ey guy, do you get any issues with this monitor? I want to buy a 120Hz LCD with HDMI... I have 2 options, this Acer or LG W2363D... can you help me?

  • @RadicalStyle

Well, the 120Hz is nice, noticably smoother image when moving windows or the mouse around in 2D, and very little ghosting in 3D. The image quality in 2D is not all that good however, with halos around text due to the overdrive feature on the panel to minimize ghosting at 120Hz, and a major let-down imo, as I had planned to use it for 2D as well, but find it unacceptable for that for me. Don't know if the LG suffers the same fate.

  • @SappieAppel I would be interested to know if turning off the overdrive display (OD) will improve the halo effect you're referring to in 2D mode. Also, how will having the OD option turned off, effect 3d play as well?? Can you check this out and reply back? Here's the instructions to turn off OD. Instructions are in the uploader comments. I'd be very appreciative, as I'm about to buy a new monitor and been researching for 2 wks now.

  • @SappieAppel Well, I found someone else's review of this monitor on the nvidia forums. The person posting the review realized the halo effect, especially around black text in 2d mode can be fixed by using the service menu and turning off overdrive display (OD). However, they didn't follow-up with their thoughts on how having it turned off would effect 2d / 3d / ghosting. Ironically, the name of the poster was Applesap. I'd give you the link, but can't seem to post in youtube comments.

  • @chillm8t

No irony in that name, it's me, but the username Appelsap was already taken here...

I'll give you a short follow-up on the 2D / 3D / ghosting with OD on and off. In short, using the service menu to turn the OD off has more than one side-effect: it does eliminate the halo, but also introduces a weird contrast difference between the left and right half of the screen. It also disables memory on the brightness setting, so after stand by it wakes up with brightness maxed out. »more

  • @chillm8t #2

To continue: with OD off the ghosting becomes much more visible, so whilst it serves to make the 2D more acceptable, it hurts in 3D mode - so much you'll turn it back on. In the end, I decided the 2D image was so poor, even with the OD off, that I now only use it to play a 3D game very occasionaly, and have put a 24" IPS screen in front of it for the remainder of the time. That is a joy to watch in 2D. Hope this helps.

  • @SappieAppel @SappieAppel Yea..I had a feeling it was you on the Nvidia forums when I saw the similar name w/ similar problems...:) Thank you for following up! In short, I came to the conclusion that it would be best to forgo 3D monitors for now. It’s not what you said in your reply, but rather all the information I’ve looked at online about the benefits and cost. I’m stuck with a budget of around $400 give or take $50, so my options are limited. I could afford 3D into my budget, but >>

  • @SappieAppel barely and right now the technology is so new, problems with it are just emerging, especially with newer monitors. Instead, I’ve opted to either go with a larger 27” TN LED panel or get a smaller 23-24” IPS panel for the same money. It’s a tossup between the two and I’m leaning toward a larger panel, honestly.

  • @chillm8t

For gaming, the quicker response from a TN panel will be nice. However, it's poor viewing angles are a pain in the b*tt, which will be even more apparent on a bigger screen. I would expect you get differences in color and contrast on a 27" just because of the size of the panel.

If you can live with the lesser response of the IPS, you will really enjoy it's noticeable better screen. Way better. I'd go for the IPS and forget about the 3 extra inches - I don't need them... ;)

  • @RadicalStyle LG I have it and it's perfect!

  • @RadicalStyle only LG W2363D !!! Acer gd 245hq very bad monitor.

  • @XtremePCGaming

It is, if your vid-card can provide a good enough framerate. The perception of depth is done in the same way, and really amazing for 3D games. Not all games benefit, and I would advise not to play too long with the 3D effect on, you might get nauseous or dizzy when you stop.

  • @SappieAppel hehe how about two of the Nvidia Geforce 480 and the 480 Amp graphics cards? its power enought to choke chuck Norris! thats 3d all the way man.

  • when it says its 3D ready, will it work with any 3D hardware? Will it work when they bring out 3D for the PS3?

  • @gmodertom

No clue really, that really depends on how 3D is going to work on the PS3. If it is only a 120Hz signal, you'll need a display that has a sync unit built in, like most of the current batch of 3D TV's.

  • @gmodertom It works on PS3

  • Why does it looks black and white with the glasses? I thought the glasses showed full color? I just ordered mine too, I hope they're not black and white when I get them.

  • @Slickman2006

I can assure you it's full color all the way. The shutterglasses create a huge hit in brightness, because you effectively only get to see half of all the light - the other half is being blocked out. This is why the screen auto sets itself to full brightness for the 3D gaming, a must, you won't see much otherwise. Second, digital camera's do not register much color in low brightness. Third, AC is a game with little color in it, so colorwise a poor choice for this demo I guess.

  • @Pasleppa I didn't know the monitor automatically turned the brightness up for 3D, that's awesome. I see people on forums dogging the monitor because they say it has too much sharpness that you can't turn down. I'm still getting the monitor anyway, because the reviews say it's good and the ghosting is alot less on it.

  • awsome

  • It looks like it is flashing is that due to the Camera or is the TV really like that?

  • @Fol1n

The monitor was set @120Hz (= 60Hz per eye), I think the camera was @50Hz, that would account for the flickering. It definately isn't that noticable @120Hz. Having the 3D Vision @100Hz does make the ghosting a little less, but then you will notice the flickering a little.

  • @Fol1n

That is due to the camera, it's running at a different speed.

  • can you make another video to show how is the monitor?
