Another issue with police militarization is the message that they send civilians. When I see a police officer with a mask and full body armor on I certainly don't feel safe. The North Hollywood bank robbery was one of one crimes where the perpetrators wore police gear and used automatic weapons. This is no reason to arm all cops to the teeth. If the cops were smart they would not have attacked men with automatic weapons and body armor. No one was hurt until the cops showed up. They could have easily tracked them or found them through investigating which is how most bank robbers are apprehended. The cops aggression caused those deaths and injuries in North Hollywood.

I find it funny that these people seem to think that comparing a cop from the 1940's with a cop of today means a lot. Take a look at how EVERYTHING has changed since the 1940's. Or maybe they want police officers to only be allowed to use severely outdated equipment while the criminals of today have the luxury of technology? Either way this video seems highly biased. I would also like to point out that what you're seeing in these videos are most likely specialized task forces and plain officers.

Let's define normal police: A police officer which has in his or her inventory - A last-resort weapon for self-defence, a radio, and a uniform to plainly distinguish themself as an officer of the law. I can understand why the police in major cities have some of these weapons. We all know sometimes things just get out of control. My main issue is that police are being mainly used to generate revenue.
If you make a call for help and the police refuse to even show up because they are too busy but you go out 15 mintues later and see 5 crusiers set up with speed traps, there is a problem.

I've never had an issue with police becuase unlike most of you I don't go around breaking laws. Police need better equipment to deal with the better weapons that criminals now posses, They use that equipment to protect their own lives while attempting to bring criminals to justice. Riot gear! OH NO THEY PUT ON HELMETS! I guess they were tired of having rocks thrown at them.

fair enough but in some cases (Not all of them) but in some of them the police are way way out of line in the way they behave. Thats just my opinion

im not going to argue anything besides the issue of them being heavily armed for raids b/c i alrdy realize that's falling on deaf ears but to say a police officer shouldn't have riot gear or automatic weapons is ridiculous considering over half of even poorer gang associated criminals any more carry aks and mac 10s the police at least should be armed better then what they are fighting

wow, our cops are starting to look like the rest of the worlds cops. the days of barney fiffe are over. you show the police in their riot gear or during a raid. equiped for the job at hand. you dont fight a fire in dress clothes if your a fire fighter, and you dont go to a drug raid with pistols. if the police didn't change with the times we would be over run with criminals. they use things like a big speaker!!!! go to china where bullets for crowd control. dude STFU!!! whinny bitch

i run cross country and i skateboard. i cross the same intersection running and skating. the police harass me for skating across that cross walk when i have done nothing wrong. the police really do have too much power, most of them are biased and do not respect peoples rights.

The North Hollywood bank robbery was one of one crimes where the perpetrators wore police gear and used automatic weapons. This is no reason to arm all cops to the teeth. If the cops were smart they would not have attacked men with automatic weapons and body armor. No one was hurt until the cops showed up. They could have easily tracked them or found them through investigating which is how most bank robbers are apprehended. The cops aggression caused those deaths and injuries in North Hollywood.

"no deaths" I guess you either don't know the story or you don't value life. There were two deaths and both of them could have been avoided if we did not have such poorly trained and aggressive police.
