Sorry u didn't wash your hands I would not let you take my blood I would ask someone else to do it until you have finished washing your hands disgusting
This is the worst phleb. video I have ever seen. This lady has done everything wrong. Where is her safety on the needle? Why is here hand covering the needle? That's the easiest way to stick yourself, using her technique. She must be really old school. Why on earth would you ever anchor a vein from above baffles me too. She's got it all wrong and needs to take a refresher course in phlebotomy STAT!!!!!
WARNING...just a little tip...holding the 2X2 gauze over the needle directly over the site while pulling out...is not the best idea....the needle can catch...or stick to the gauze and have the chance prick you!...oh and for my own curiosity...why can't the "rubber" tourniquet be just a little bit wider so it does not roll so tightly into the arm so much?...especially on a patient with large arms?
WHO EVER MADE THIS VIDEO IS A DUM STUPID ASS HUMAN WHO IS VERY IDIOTIC AND UNEDUCATED. DUM ASS SHIT. SOME PEOPLE ARE SO SMART TO THE POINT WHERE THEY JUST DON'T HAVE COMMON SINCE. DUM VIDEO. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND NEEDS TO BE REPORTED TO AUTHORITY. OSHA NEEDS TO GET A HOLD OF THIS VIDEO AND SHE NEEDS TO BE PUT OUT OF HER JOB . what happen to washing hands and doing the PPE PROCEDURES CORRECTLY UGH!!!! VERY VERY DISRESPECTFUL TO THE MEDICAL FIELD. AND SHE IS WEARING JEWLERY OMG
this looks like an old video the needle does not even have a safety cap activated with one hand. i agree that this is poor technique but technique has changed over time.
Excuse me but I'm currently looking to become a phlebotomist, and the question I have is when inserting the needle how do you know that the needle didn't go right through the vein... please aid, thanks in advance kamy
Since when you can leave the tourniquet for so long? I thought you first , with gloves, feel the area and find the vein... Then you clean up the area and put on the tourniquet so you can stick the needle because the area will be dried. Anybody?
what school did she go to if i were the docor that is going to hire her i will be very scare she committed mistakes from the begining of the video to end LOL
i cant believe she actually shook it like that lol...light inversions (rocking back and forth slightly) are sufficient. her specimins are most likely grossly hemolyzed
as a professional she commited a big mistake leave the torniquet for a long time will cause hemoconcentration and as a consequence results from the lab will show higher results like polycythemia high hemoglobin etc.... petechiae will be seen also in the brachial area.
What's up with anchoring above the puncture site -- and so close to it? And covering it (ala hand switch) while drawing? When I was a phleb I wanted to see what is going on. Also, I don't think the tube shaking is overly vigorous in this vid, but it definitely does not demonstrate best practice. Gentle rocking is the way to go. Would have been nice to show proper order of tubes to draw (eg, lavender before clot), although at least you showed plain before r/b. How fun tho, a phlebotomy vid!
yep im a certified phlebotomist and its in case the person is what we call a "squirter". sometimes when the needle is pulled out it has a tendency to sometimes squirt which can be harmful to get into your eye or mouth. =)
Ups Finger Prick!!!!!!!! I like how she shakes the tub??? do you know what Hemolysis (or haemolysis) is? never shake the tubs women, gentle inversions of the tubs is the correct way. very scary blood draw!!!
Excellent. I really liked her steadying the vacutainer tube so well. That goes a long way for patient comfort to not have the needle jiggling around as much and they can't see the entrance. I doubt she could anchor a vein very well proximal to the entrance site, but that's her deal. I always anchor distally because the needle is angled proximally and I can get the vein to jump up a bit and the skin is taught over the site. But I like the video.
I was taught to release the tourniquet after the second tubing. I see it is differet here. It makes since to keep the tourniquet on since that is the way to get the veins to the surface, does anyone disagree with that?
On old ladies and dehydrated people I leave the tourniquet on to maintain the venous pressure so there is no way I can get a short sample when they suck flat. Everyone else, I take it off before to save time and drop venous pressure so I don't get a squirt when I with draw the needle.
I like the placement of her hand to steady the needle. But I was absolutley horrified to see her anchor the needle above. Can you say finger prick???????
- you forgot to mention the MOST important part of phlebotomy! PATIENT IDENTIFICATION!
- you put the goggles on THEN gloves
- her hand is on top when anchoring the vein and you do not hold the vacuatiner holder like that, you can't see whats going on under your hand!
- DEAR LORD! you do NOT shake your tubes!!! This causes the blood to hemolyze! Hemolyzed samples are unsuitable for analysis! This collection would have to be recollected! You gentley invert them.
because then you'll be contaminating your gloves with whatever is on the goggles... if you go to school for anything health-care related, you will learn that gloves are always last to put on, but the first to take off... however in real life you actually don't wear eye protection when performing phlebotomy. i've even worked in 4 different places that didn't even wear gloves. where i live it's not "required".
I am extremely interested on becoming a certified Phlebotomist after I graduate from college. Does anyone know how you would get into becoming certified? I have looked online...but have not had any luck finding anything. I live in Collin County (Texas)...if that helps. Thanks for any help!
I agree. I teach 500 students a year, if they saw this video I would cringe and tell them what they saw is EXACTLY what not to do. Switch hands ? Anchoring ahead of the needle ? Thats a secondary purpose of the tourniquit. Anchor below the needle to make the vein taut and straight. Fingers ahead of the needle, another no no. This is a University setting ? I hope I never get collected by a trainee of that college. Scary.
I hope that this isn't a teaching video, I would fire anyone in my facility that perfomed a blood draw like that. obviously this woman has never had to perfome lab tests on the samples that she draws because she would in fact have erronous results with her shaking the tubes that way. I have to say that this video does nothing for her university....I hope she atleast asked her subject prior to the procedure if she was allergic to latex.
Very poor technique Do not cover the sight of puncture - how can you tell if a hamatoma is forming. Not good practice to change hands. Do not shake bottles will haemolyse blood, gentle inversion is all that is needed. Did not check for haemostasis just taped sight.
Sorry u didn't wash your hands I would not let you take my blood I would ask someone else to do it until you have finished washing your hands disgusting
