If Josh Sundquist's book "Just dont fall" about his battle with cancer and the things that insued counts.....By far my favorite (and one of the only) biographies ever!!:)
isn't it INCREDIBLE that the same God that provided for George Muller is OUR God? ... I seriously never stop to think about that enough. PTL and thanks for reminding me :)
good rambling! that was stellar! I muchly appreciated it, because that's the way I talk allll the time.. so it was a welcome feeling :P
autobiographies! .. The Hiding Place. it's not an autobiography per say.. but it almost kinda is. Corrie ten Boom. ever read it? it's delightful. love love love it
I LOVE The Hiding Place, and Corrie ten Boom in general. The movie was a bit much for me as a kid, I remember getting really freaked out at several points...but I'd like to watch it again.
Sorry to hear about the accident. As a dentist, I have seen my share of those kind of injuries. Your dentist did very nice work. Any chance we will see before and after pics or x-rays?
I find it rather disturbing that i heard have sex instead of have snacks in the beginning D: so yeah biographies, I read the 'biography' of when Richard Hammond was in coma from that highspeed crash, which was pretty shocking (kind of obvious).. does it count?
I just finished reading "Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother" (that book on Chinese parenting that caused so much controversy), and it was really great. :) I enjoyed reading it, and it was really interesting! And I'm about to start reading Boy and Going Solo by Roald Dahl. So far so good! And then Just Don't Fall by Josh Sundquist has been on my wish list for a long time. xD I can't find it, though. He's a YouTuber, by the way, so if you haven't seen his videos yet, I definitely recommend it!
@MarthaJuliett Fair question, haha. Check out the article! There's a lot of cool stories. Basically he had other people give Muller money, out of their own free will -- Muller never had to ask. It's pretty amazing, and really well documented.
Umm... I don't have a specific comment about the video, really. I just wanted to say something to the effect of... you're awesome. And I feel so lucky that I get to watch your videos, whether they're inspiring (you're a really insightful person, you know that?) or about a bunch of random stuff ending in a book haul. :]
@gingeryoddity okay so there is free will, and humans are the course.. then what is God there for, what is his job if not to protect earth and humans..
And those natural disasters have been happening ever since earth was born....we just hear more about it now because of the media
@TyskAltid by canons, he is here to help us and give us strength in times like that. I'm really not very good in explaining phylosophical concepts beyond Christianity. If you are intrested you may want to do some reading, and if you are not - than that's is completely your choice :) I'm just saying that there are answers to your question. In particular case with Japan - Japanese have known that earthquake was coming quite a long time ago. They just chose to ignore forecasts.
@LittleOfYour It's true! It does scar you. Everything feels dangerous now. I'm constantly thinking of sceneries that may cause me to knock them out again, ahh. It's frustrating.
My favourite biography is Dancing on my grave written by Gelsey Kirkland (fantastic ex ballerina) and Greg Lawrence. It isn't in print any longer but worth the hassle of finding. It is a hundred percent heartbreaking but beautifully written and gives a very interesting image of what really happened in the glorified lives of the ballet dancers of the 60s-80's.
I hate to correct you, but Müller is pronounced "muuuuu-ller" not "mew-ler"
Petty I know, but I'm a German major...
I've also had an experience with teeth going places they aren't supposed to... it involved a basketball game, an orthodontic plate/retainer and a head-on collision. Not pretty.
Why do you believe in God? What did Japan do to deserve what is happening? What did New York do? What did Haiti do? What did they do?? If there is a God he has left a long time ago. Just saying...
@TyskAltid I'm not Melinda, but that is one of the most common theological questions. God didn't create those horrible disasters. They are consequences of free will. Freedom of choice is one of the most fundamental concepts and if this is the way we choose to use the Earth, than we have to deal with the consequences. God can't stop what we are causing, but he can't just as well create the tsunami to kill everybody because they 'deserve it'. That's not how it works.
@TyskAltid It all comes down to a very deep and complicated question of pain and struggling in Christianity and I don't think my rambling explains it well :) I would recommend C.S.Lewis, if you are intrested, he is way better than I am!
My ninth grade research paper was on Galileo, and I really enjoyed that. Tenth grade I wrote it on J.K. Rowling, and she's obviously an interesting person to read about, too (pretty sure that goes without saying xD...)
I read a biography on Peter that I enjoyed but have not been able to track down auther/exact title as of yet. I am really enjoying learnig about the early church lately, and am teaching my senior high kids about it now.
I'm not really inspired by any ONE figure... it's more like... I'm inspired by Jedi from Star Wars, Starfleet Officers from Star Trek, the main characters of Redwall books... and a few others I can't think of right now but know are there somewhere. :P
I'm glad such great influences are on YouTube these days :) for instance, you, strawburry17, and Shawna showing strong Godly womanly values, shaycarl as a family man, the vlog brothers grasps on knowledge, it's just a great place to learn about how other people live and go about. :)
My two front teeth are fake too! And my little brother told me I looked like a vampire!
In case you were wondering... someone was throwing jolly ranchers off their Homecoming float about 5 years ago and apparently I was smiling like a goon when one hit me in the mouth and knocked those suckers out!
Your a good person over all, Not too religious myself, but you unlike some people I've meet you aren't trying to cram it down my throat or be preachy either, which is something I appreciate.
A good bio I read back in HS was Tony Hawk's Hawk Occupation: Skateboarder, its was really insightful into his life and career, but showcased his rather dark sense of humor at times too.
There's a few reasons people don't have faith in god. Firstly, some people just don't believe in stories like George Müller's.
