This is a fabulous version of my favorite Christmas song. I get goose bumps all the way thru. Michael Crawford aces this song with a beautiful voice !! The children as his backup singers adds such a wonderful touch ! I don't believe you will find a better version than this one !!!

It's a good rendition, but for this song I prefer a deep voice like Bing Crosby. Though I admit that this version and Andrea Bocelli's are also quite amazing. I could do without the children singing as well.

Together they created in my opinion the greatest Christmas song ever written about the birth of Jesus Christ. @XxDjinn420xX The singers name is Daryl Pediford who died a few years ago. TSO did a concert in Madison Square Garden where they played the movie version and used his voice in honor of him. I hope this helps some.

Michael Crawford ... wow! It's so rare to hear a male performance like this providing power, subtlety, masterful chops, and pure tone. This is my favorite male rendition, hands down.

Take away Michaels vocal performance and you lose the feeling and passion of this song. I love both Michael and TSO. To ignore either is just wrong. TSO obviously thought Michael was one heck of a great singer or else they wouldn't of asked him to sing with them. Does anybody like Mikes vocal performance or is it just me?
This is a favorite Christmas Tradition to listen to TSO because their music is so inspirational and moving. I get tears in my eyes almost every time I listen to this album. I finally get to see them live next week.

I can remember in the movie " The Bishops Wife" Cary Grant who plays the part of the angel that must somehow give guidance to the parish Bishop (David Niven). Tells a story to the daughter of this Bishop about Christmas. He starts out by saying "That we must remember it's someone's birthday were celebrating" " many of us have forgotten that over the years". Up to this moment, I thought Celine Dion's version was the best and that no one could ever come any where near it. After watching this, I am blown away by this version. I can't think of enough positive adjectives to describe this singer. One sure sign of his power is that the mike does not move from his mouth as he hits the high notes...that is real voice control. And kudos to the poster who gave us a professional video with good sound.

In 1847 Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure a French poet wrote "Cantique de Noel" O'Holy Night from a suggestion from his parish priest. The priest also suggested to him to put the poem to song. He decided to ask his good friend Adolphe Charles Adams a jew to write the music to this poem. And though Adams who's belief in Jesus not being the Messiah-wrote the music anyway. And as it turned out the world was better for it. Here is a more fantastic twist to this story. On Christmas Eve 1906-
a 33yr old university professor and former chemist to Thomas Edison. Did something long thought to be unheard of. Spoke into a generator run microphone and for the 1st time in history a mans voice was broadcast over the airwaves. After finishing his recitation of the birth of Christ, Fessenden picked up his violin and played "O'Holy Night", the first song ever sent through the air waves. When the carol ended, so did the broadcast--but not before music had found a new medium the the world-

I'm sorry to partially not putting down the first name of Thomas Edison's chemist. It was Reginald Fessenden who brought to the world the song written by "Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure.
Adams had been dead for years and Cappeau and Dwight were old men when on Christmas Eve 1906. Professor Reginald Fessenden voice was heard around the world on his violin playing and singing O'Holy Night. It was the first time a mans voice and a song was ever sent over the airwaves.
Here's a little more to this story. Cappeau was a commissionaire of wines in a small French town. Known more for his poetry than his church attendance, it shocked Placide when his parish priest asked him to penned a poem for Christmas mass. While using the Gospel of Luke as his guide, Cappeau imagined witnessing the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. Cappeau had a thought-what if I decide to make a song of this poem. To do this he enlisted the help of a very well known and respected-
musician whose father was also a famous classical musician. The man name was Adolphe Charles Adams who had studied in the Paris conservatoire. After the song was completed the song became accepted by the French church. The Catholic churches everywhere in France used it in their Christmas services. Here's yet another tale to this story. In 1857 a reclusive American writer--John Sullivan Dwight-felt this wonderful Christmas song needed to be introduced to America, he saw something else in the-

This is by far the Greatest Christmas Song ever written. And this version by the Trans Siberian Orchestra w/the Great tenor of broadway fame- Michael Crawford. This song represents what Christmas is all about. You can take Santa Claus is coming to town, rudolph the red nose reindeer, or grandma got run over by a reindeer. And there is no comparison to this greatest of Christmas songs.
I have recently come back to ''christianity'' from a long period of doubt and questioning. And this peice, whoever did it. Wether it be Phelps or this Mike guy or anyone, this song has always held my faith. I forgot it somehow. And this song no matter how many times I hear it, makes me remember how I used to feel whenever I went to church. I've found that feeling now in my children, but I have to say this song...still manages to move me even to this day.
I'm going to end this Michael vs. Phelps feud right now. Both of these men are exceptional singers, whereas one is NO better or worse than the other. There is really no good or bad, only progress. Futhermore, once you've learned to sing properly, the focus of singing is centered on interpretation of the piece, with the voice being the method of deliverance. Crawford's is more epic and grand, whereas Phelps is based on a gospelesque feel.
For you people arguing over who has the better sounding voice, or the level of range. I myself have a 3 octave tenor range, but you don't see me making millions of dollars, or touring with Trans Siberian. The reasoning, the level of connection, sound, and luck (mostly the latter). However, my point is still, interpretation. I'm not denying Phelp's exceptional range, however, I personally think this piece should be performed exactly how Crawford performs it. Not blown over the top.
Forgive me. I'm not implying that gospel music is not epic or grand (far from it), but rather, I meant that Crawford's is more smooth, free, and gradually building.

I don't know how many times we have watched this very performance..and no matter how many times.. Michael Crawford sends chills down my spine. Both my wife and I are huge 'fans' of his. That he had TSO behind him only makes it that much more.

I'm glad you enjoyed this version of O'Holy Night "BigThumbBlues" and "tigress1978" but thanks for totally ignoring the absolutely mind blowing performance of Michael Crawford. Take away Michaels vocal performance and you lose the feeling and passion of this song. I love both Michael and TSO. To ignore either is just wrong. TSO obviously thought Michael was one heck of a great singer or else they wouldn't of asked him to sing with them. Does anybody like Mikes vocal performance or is it just me?

I can remember in the movie " The Bishops Wife" Cary Grant who plays the part of the angel that must somehow give guidance to the parish Bishop (David Niven). Tells a story to the daughter of this Bishop about Christmas. He starts out by saying "That we must remember it's someone's birthday were celebrating" " many of us have forgotten that over the years". The birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has never been penned more beautifully then this song "O Holy Night." Merry Christmas everyone

Up to this moment, I thought Celine Dion's version was the best and that no one could ever come any where near it. After watching this, I am blown away by this version. I can't think of enough positive adjectives to describe this singer. One sure sign of his power is that the mike does not move from his mouth as he hits the high notes...that is real voice control. And kudos to the poster who gave us a professional video with good sound.

This is a magnificent rendition. However, I suggest you also listen to Jussi Bjorling's "O Helga Natt". The voice of a tenor angel!
Perhaps the definitive performance of this great carol. Groban is good, David Phelps is good -- Bjorling's vocal performance is stunning.

In 1847 Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure a French poet wrote "Cantique de Noel" O'Holy Night from a suggestion from his parish priest. The priest also suggested to him to put the poem to song. He decided to ask his good friend Adolphe Charles Adams a jew to write the music to this poem. And though Adams who's belief in Jesus not being the Messiah-wrote the music anyway. This... This is the sound of Christmas that I remember from my childhood.. long ago. Its magical and beautiful! It brought back memories of my parents, sister and I riding in the snow to my Grandmothers for Christmas and family and love for that one night. It brought tears to my eyes for what Christmas has become for children today... And I admit that I miss this feeling so much today... This is by far the Greatest Christmas Song ever written. And this version by the Trans Siberian Orchestra w/the Great tenor of broadway fame- Michael Crawford. This song represents what Christmas is all about. You can take Santa Claus is coming to town, rudolph the red nose reindeer, or grandma got run over by a reindeer. And there is no comparison to this greatest of Christmas songs.

I have recently come back to ''christianity'' from a long period of doubt and questioning. And this peice, whoever did it. Wether it be Phelps or this Mike guy or anyone, this song has always held my faith. I forgot it somehow. And this song no matter how many times I hear it, makes me remember how I used to feel whenever I went to church. I've found that feeling now in my children, but I have to say this song...still manages to move me even to this day.

I'm going to end this Michael vs. Phelps feud right now. Both of these men are exceptional singers, whereas one is NO better or worse than the other. There is really no good or bad, only progress. Futhermore, once you've learned to sing properly, the focus of singing is centered on interpretation of the piece, with the voice being the method of deliverance. Crawford's is more epic and grand, whereas Phelps is based on a gospelesque feel.

For you people arguing over who has the better sounding voice, or the level of range. I myself have a 3 octave tenor range, but you don't see me making millions of dollars, or touring with Trans Siberian. The reasoning, the level of connection, sound, and luck (mostly the latter). However, my point is still, interpretation. I'm not denying Phelp's exceptional range, however, I personally think this piece should be performed exactly how Crawford performs it. Not blown over the top.

Michael is amazing and incredibly powerful and passionate in his performance of this song.
