  • I don't think this Michael (Caldwell). I think this is Michael Crawford

  • Awesome..

  • wow

  • He puts his heart into it....

  • umm this is michael crawford not michael caldwell. you might want to fix that.

  • I CANT STOP CRYING!!!!!!

  • @4416DOC It really is beautiful. Best version of this song that I have ever heard. Nothing could top that.

  • That 1 dislike is Frank Spencer, Michael Crawford's evil counterpart! lol

  • Forgive me Lord Jesus!

  • Praise the Lord! really gives me goose bump and i shed my tears....fantastic!!!

  • This is a fabulous version of my favorite Christmas song. I get goose bumps all the way thru. Michael Crawford aces this song with a beautiful voice !! The children as his backup singers adds such a wonderful touch ! I don't believe you will find a better version than this one !!!

  • it makes me cry...

  • I can sing like this.

  • the one dislike is from satan, only he could have the evil capacity to dislike something so beautiful

  • It will probably surprise most of you but when he goes to the children and pats there head, one of them is his daughter. I read that somewhere and can't seem to find it. I am not sure which, but I am thinking it was the second one as she seemed less timid with him. I agree that this is one of the best versions of O Holy Night including Babs, and celine.

  • I like the choir version a lot, but this one was superb. A truly excellent song, done by an excellent group

  • This is the version I love the best. Michael Crawford's voice is amazing. The children 's voices a perfect accompaniment to his voice.

  • Wow....even an atheist like myself almost "believed"...after hearing this rendition of this most beautiful song....simply amazing...the children were exceptional....a perfect complement to Michael Crawford stunning vocals..

  • Love it, I would like to tryout there.

  • Nothing can top the Phantom of the Opera singing a Christmas carol.

  • Comment removed

  • It's a good rendition, but for this song I prefer a deep voice like Bing Crosby. Though I admit that this version and Andrea Bocelli's are also quite amazing. I could do without the children singing as well.

  • On 24 December 1906, Reginald Fessenden, a Canadian inventor, broadcast what was considered the first ever AM radio program, which started w/a phonograph record of 'Ombra mai fu' followed by him playing the violin and singing "O'Holy Night".

Composed by Adolph Adams in 1847 to the French poem "Minuit, Chretiens" (Midnight Christians) by Placide Cappeau (1808-1877) a wine merchant and poet, who had been asked by the Parrish priest to write a Christmas poem.

  • @54no more Unitarian minister John Sullivan Dwight, editor of Dwight's Journal of Music, created a singing edition based on Chapeau French text in 1885. In both the French original and in the two familiar English versions of the carol, the texts reflects on the birth of Jesus and of mankind's redemption.

  • This greatest of all Christmas songs was written by a French government worker and a Jewish opera composer. Together they created in my opinion the greatest Christmas song ever written about the birth of Jesus Christ. And the bondage of slavery for which all of man must make it a point to eradicate off the the face of the earth. This is also the first song ever sung over the airwaves and the 1st to be transmitted by radio waves. This was the birth of radio and telecommunications.

  • It doesn't get ANY better than this!!!! :o)

  • He is Michael Crawford. He was the first Phantom of the Opera for Andrew Lloyd Weber in London. Hes Brilliant! He is also a great comedian.

  • I am an atheist, and I appreciate this for what it is -- truly beautiful music. Stop contaminating it with your bigotry and hate, you mindless zealots...

  • Let us not forget that Christmas is all about Christ, it's not about Santa Claus, Virgin Mary, Three Kings, Christmas Bonus and Christmas Tree. Its centered primarily on the person of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let's worship the Christ of Christmas

  • best version of this song I've ever heard. and I've been listening to this song for years. since the DVD came out.

  • it brings me to tears....

  • This is by far the greatest rendition of this greatest of all Christmas songs I have ever heard. Michael Crawford and the Trans Siberian Orchestra along w/the children chorus have created a masterpiece I feel will never be match. Priceless!

  • @54nomore - I agree. i'm not even christian, but from a purely aesthetic point of view, it's nearly perfect...and more. such a powerful song.

  • Can someone please Upload the "Music Box Blues" songs from this movie? I forget the singer but I heard he died and I can't his version anymore, he was the best.

  • @XxDjinn420xX The singers name is Daryl Pediford who died a few years ago. TSO did a concert in Madison Square Garden where they played the movie version and used his voice in honor of him. I hope this helps some.

  • @54nomore Daryl Pediford was a Black blues singer that actually did the song Music Box Blues for Paul ONeil and TSO. Look up your info first. This man is Michael Crawford and English Singer/Comedian

  • @Clapton Blues 55 I just do not understand what your referring to. In this clip it is Michael Crawford who is single this great Christmas song. This is from a Christmas special done out of the old theatre in Jersey City, New Jersey. There were various artist who performed a variety of Christmas songs, such as the late Daryl Pediford, Jewel and others.

  • I take it that person who clicked dislike is deaf?

  • @XClaireeRX

Don't diss the Deaf!!! The idiot who clicked dislike was probably a arrogant teen who has no religion and is ready was hang himself.

  • Cont'd...Thanks for dissing Michael and not saying anything about this amazing performance "luckdinto". This is a video of Michael Crawford(not Groban who I also respect). All you did was comment on a performer who isn't even in this video. Maybe I should go on the Groban sites and do nothing but comment on how Michael Crawford makes me melt(actually Michaels voice does make me melt!). I respect both guys to much to do that though and there fans. Jealousy has no place on a video about Jesus.

  • Your heart is not the only one Michael's voice melts. Mine as well.

  • spin chilling....absolutely awesome

  • Execellent rendition. Im glad Michael allowed his voice to come out more naturally at the end

  • beautiful.

  • Unbelievable.

  • Michael Crawford ... wow! It's so rare to hear a male performance like this providing power, subtlety, masterful chops, and pure tone. This is my favorite male rendition, hands down.

  • I don't know how many times we have watched this very performance..and no matter how many times.. Michael Crawford sends chills down my spine. Both my wife and I are huge 'fans' of his. That he had TSO behind him only makes it that much more.

I wonder how it would sound if Michael Crawford, Josh Groban and TSO got together for a version...hmmm..

  • I don't think I could handle that. I love both of those voices. Every time I hear the Josh Groban version on the radio when driving I just melt.

  • I'm glad you enjoyed this version of O'Holy Night "BigThumbBlues" and "tigress1978" but thanks for totally ignoring the absolutely mind blowing performance of Michael Crawford. Take away Michaels vocal performance and you lose the feeling and passion of this song. I love both Michael and TSO. To ignore either is just wrong. TSO obviously thought Michael was one heck of a great singer or else they wouldn't of asked him to sing with them. Does anybody like Mikes vocal performance or is it just me?

  • Hey!! That's a pretty silly question!! "Like is song" is a big understatment.

Obsessed is the better term!! Obsessed with Michael--now those are the right words!!

  • WOW....when he does the "Noelllll" at the end I get chills....thats amazing.....

  • reMEMBER !!

  • Is That Michael Crawford singing?

  • It is Michael Crawford

  • This is a favorite Christmas Tradition to listen to TSO because their music is so inspirational and moving. I get tears in my eyes almost every time I listen to this album. I finally get to see them live next week.

  • Tigress, I'm going to see them dec. 21. Is that when your going?

  • Yes, as a matter of fact, that is the day that myself and my cousin are going to see them.

  • I'm going to be at the 8pm show at the palace of auburn hills. Have a great time!!

  • Stunning!

  • The most beautiful song I've ever heard. I love TSO. The first time I heard them was in 1997. The radio station played Christmas Eve in Sarajevo, and I've been a fan of theirs ever since.

    Trueblue2112

  • its very nice

  • Magnificent!

To Him all the Glory and Praise!

  • O Holy Night the stars are brightly shining. It is the night of our dears saviors birth. Long lay the world in sin and error pining. Till he appeared, and the soul felt it's worth. A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices. For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn. Fall on your knees, Oh hear the angels voices. Oh night divine, Oh night, when Christ was born. Oh night, divine Oh night, Oh night divine.
  • Truly he taught us to love one another. His law is love, and his gospel is peace. Chains shall he break, for the slave is our brother. And in his name, all oppression shall cease. Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raised we, and all within us praise his Holy name. Christ-is the lord. That ever, ever praise we. Noel, Noel
  • Oh night, oh night divine.

    Noel, Noel

    Oh night, night divine.

    Noel, Noel

    Oh Holy night...

  • thanks!

  • Hello! I am so grateful that you took the time to type in the words to this wonderful song; I knew the first part, but not the second, & this has been a blessing!

It's Christmas morning here in Arizona & I pray you are having a glorious celebration of our dear Savior's birth. "And in His name all oppression shall cease" Amen!!

Praise to Him forever & ever!!

  • I can remember in the movie " The Bishops Wife" Cary Grant who plays the part of the angel that must somehow give guidance to the parish Bishop (David Niven). Tells a story to the daughter of this Bishop about Christmas. He starts out by saying "That we must remember it's someone's birthday were celebrating" " many of us have forgotten that over the years". The birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has never been penned more beautifully then this song "O Holy Night." Merry Christmas everyone

  • Rick I'm glad you told me about this video.. its beautiful! I agree with your friend 54nomore comment. I'm going to have to try to find this dvd for my family to play at christmas. Do you know where I can get it?

Thanks again! Saying this is beautiful is hardly enough its beyond beautiful!

  • Truly magical.

  • I want to apologize to bloodmagiks.. I replied to 54nomore from my inbox and made a mistake.. I assumed that he or she.. had posted this wonderful video... I'm sorry and hope that you won't be too upset with me.. Merry Christmas to you!

  • How beautiful. This is truly what Christmas means. O Holy Night, when Christ was born.

  • damn that niggas got some balls

  • The Singer is Michael Crawford, he also starred in Phantom of the Opera. He does an amazing job with both.

  • Up to this moment, I thought Celine Dion's version was the best and that no one could ever come any where near it. After watching this, I am blown away by this version. I can't think of enough positive adjectives to describe this singer. One sure sign of his power is that the mike does not move from his mouth as he hits the high notes...that is real voice control. And kudos to the poster who gave us a professional video with good sound.

  • The poster is (bloodmagiks) he has the whole Christmas special on his post. From video #1-11 and tells the story of a runaway girl who is now trying to make her way back home for Christmas Eve. This special was called " The Ghost Of Christmas Eve Trans-Siberian Ochestra",I hope this helps. And for those who wish to see the entired special go to (bloodmagiks post)videos #1-11. Merry Christmas...

  • Don't be upset "54nomore'...the comment about putting Michael down was not aimed at you. Actually I have done nothing but give you thumbs up and thank you for your wonderful background in formation on the song and great comments about Michaels superb rendition of this song. So take care and God bless!

  • Sorry! for venting a little. May you and yours have a very Merry Christmas and God bless you and your family too!.

  • Damn! This is BY FAR the most powerful rendition i've ever heard of this song! The guy certainly does it some justice.

  • no kiddin sanzmo. It sure does hit the spot. what i thought was amazing is how well andhow long he can hit and hold the higher notes

  • Declared unfit for church service's in France and later embraced by U.S. Abolitionist, the song continues to inspire. The strong and fascination story of " O Holy Night" began in France, yet would not only become one of the most beloved anthem of all time, it would mark a technological revolution that would forever change the way people were introduced to music.

  • Since the first rendition at a small Christmas mass in France 1847, " O Holy Night" has been sung millions of times in churches in every corner of the world. And since the moment a handful of people first heard it played over the radio, the carol has gone on to become one of the entertainment industry's most recorded and played spiritual songs. This incredible work--requested by a forgotten parish priest, written by a French poet who would later split from the church, given soaring music by

  • Jewish composer, and brought to America to serve as much as a tool to spotlight the sinful nature of slavery as tell the story of the birth of a Savior--has become on of the most beautiful, inspired pieces of music ever created.

  • Actually "54nomore" the only place I've ever seen this rendition by Michael Crawford of O'Holy Night on CD is on Michaels beautiful Christmas CD which you can still find in stores like Borders and Barnes & Nobles or on Amazon. It's also on David Fosters "A Christmas Album" and your allowed to say Michaels name. Thanks for the background to this song. Very interesting. To "Pillboxesghost"...I respect the people you mentioned but would you quite spamming all the MC videos just to put Michael down.

  • Are you kidding me about putting Michael down. I have nothing but praise and respect for him. I can't for the life of me see how I ever put him down. I feel his rendition of this most beautiful Christmas song is the best rendition of all. So I really don't understand your comment.

  • This is a magnificent rendition. However, I suggest you also listen to Jussi Bjorling's "O Helga Natt". The voice of a tenor angel!

Perhaps the definitive performance of this great carol. Groban is good, David Phelps is good -- Bjorling's vocal performance is stunning.

  • what dvd is this show from i want it..

  • This was from a television Christmas special called " The Ghost of Christmas Eve" The album is called "Christmas Eve Sarajevo" Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I hope this info helps you.

  • *****wow, thank you soooo much, what a wonderful video! Good to hear from you again, missed you! Here winter has come we have a white 1st advent, very romantic.God bless you!

    Hugs from Germany ...Marcella :-)

  • Glad you like this is version of " O'Holy Night". Yes I too reacted w/a wow, when I first came across this video. This is to me by far the greatest rendition of the greatest Christmas song ever penned. Nice to hear from you, Hugs from USA...54nomore:-)

  • Pillboxesghost, JussiBjorling had an operatic voice, more powerful and differently trained than either of the other two.

    He sang beautifully.

Of the non-operatic singers, I much prefer Crawford.

  • In 1847 Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure a French poet wrote "Cantique de Noel" O'Holy Night from a suggestion from his parish priest. The priest also suggested to him to put the poem to song. He decided to ask his good friend Adolphe Charles Adams a jew to write the music to this poem. And though Adams who's belief in Jesus not being the Messiah-wrote the music anyway. And as it turned out the world was better for it. Here is a more fantastic twist to this story. On Christmas Eve 1906-

  • a 33yr old university professor and former chemist to Thomas Edison. Did something long thought to be unheard of. Spoke into a generator run microphone and for the 1st time in history a mans voice was broadcast over the airwaves. After finishing his recitation of the birth of Christ, Fessenden picked up his violin and played "O'Holy Night", the first song ever sent through the air waves. When the carol ended, so did the broadcast--but not before music had found a new medium the the world-

  • will forever embrace. It's it fitting the first voice heard around the world was a recitation of the birth of Christ. And the first song ever heard was "O'Holy Night". Thank you France for giving us this great poet (Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure)who In my opinion wrote the greatest Christmas song on the face of the earth.

  • I'm sorry to partially not putting down the first name of Thomas Edison's chemist. It was Reginald Fessenden who brought to the world the song written by "Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure.

  • Adams had been dead for years and Cappeau and Dwight were old men when on Christmas Eve 1906. Professor Reginald Fessenden voice was heard around the world on his violin playing and singing O'Holy Night. It was the first time a mans voice and a song was ever sent over the airwaves.

  • Christmas Eve 1906-"O'Holy Night" was the first song ever performed over the airwaves.

  • Here's a little more to this story. Cappeau was a commissionaire of wines in a small French town. Known more for his poetry than his church attendance, it shocked Placide when his parish priest asked him to penned a poem for Christmas mass. While using the Gospel of Luke as his guide, Cappeau imagined witnessing the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. Cappeau had a thought-what if I decide to make a song of this poem. To do this he enlisted the help of a very well known and respected-

  • musician whose father was also a famous classical musician. The man name was Adolphe Charles Adams who had studied in the Paris conservatoire. After the song was completed the song became accepted by the French church. The Catholic churches everywhere in France used it in their Christmas services. Here's yet another tale to this story. In 1857 a reclusive American writer--John Sullivan Dwight-felt this wonderful Christmas song needed to be introduced to America, he saw something else in the-

  • song that moved him beyond the story of the birth of Christ. An ardent abolitionist, Dwight strongly identified with the lines of the third verse: "Truly he taught us to love one another; his law is love and his gospel is peace. Chains shall he break, for the slave is our brother; and in his name all oppression shall cease." The text supported Dwight's own view of slavery in the South. Published in his magazine, Dwight's English translation of "O'Holy Night" quickly found favor in America,-

  • especially in the North during the Civil War.

  • Thanks for the background on this song, it is my absolute favorite and the verse you mentioned makes me cry everytime I hear it.

  • Breath-taking!

  • That was great.

  • This to me is by far the greatest version of O'Holy Night ever performed. Michael Crawford, the Choristers of Saint Bartholomew's church and the great Trans-Siberian Orchestra has performed the ultimate Christmas song like none other before. This is the best rendition of the greatest Christmas song ever written.

  • That was amazing... i have a knot in my throat... so pure and powerful, and the children, like you said sounded like angels... im speechless. Breath taking...

  • This is an absolutely amazing version of one of the best Christmas songs ever. This song is harder to sing than almost any other and he does it too perfection. Not only is his pitch perfect, but his timing to the music is flawless. What can I say I get chills every time I hear this rendition.

  • This is my favorite Christmas song! The children make it so special!

  • This was so moving..I have grown so weary of the evil attacks on Christmas and those who celebrate it. I have always loved this song. So strong, clear and full of peace. Full of love and hope. It is such a stark contrast to the hate and fear in the world. Thank you TSO.

  • children's voices are so pure. Like angels are singing

  • this version makes my Christmas alive,,, and I can feel the essence of Christmas in the solemnity of this song... Praise God...

  • I've heard opera singers with more powerful voices sing this some and pop singers with their own interpretations, but I believe this version by Michael Crawford is and will be unmatched.

  • I agree with you 100%.

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written! This version is special because of the children's chorus!

  • Stunning.

  • This television special was called " The Ghost of Christmas Eve" filmed at the fame landmark Lowes Theatre in Jersey City, New Jersey. It starred Jewel, Michael Crawford, the late Daryl Pediford, the late great character actor Ossie Davis as the caretaker and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. It also included the Choristers of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church of New York City in 1998. To see the whole television special go to Bloodmagiks post on youtube. Merry Christmas everyone...

  • michael crawford has a tramendous voice

  • It's nice to see that Christmas can still be celebrated without having to politically correctly mention other holidays I don't care about (Kwanza, Ramadan, Hannukah).

  • The reason there is no guitar i because it is 1ST Christmas music and 2ND rock! made me cry...probably the most awesome thing i have ever heard!!!!!

  • His voice in enchantig Can`t avoid thinking of the Phantom of the Opera when I hear his voice....he is amazing!!!

  • The most beautiful version of the greatest song written for all mankind. If I hear this song once a year, it gives me faith to continue living for another year

  • I agree w/you completely. Take my friend and please! give us more then one. "Merry Christmas to you, and all who love you".

  • This is the song that makes the holidays a time of rejoicing in my own heart..."a weary world rejoices, for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.." Thank the Lord.

I'm going to go see them live in 12 days...I'll bet I'll cry...

  • Im an atheist, but these songs are truly remarkable!

  • This... This is the sound of Christmas that I remember from my childhood.. long ago. Its magical and beautiful! It brought back memories of my parents, sister and I riding in the snow to my Grandmothers for Christmas and family and love for that one night. It brought tears to my eyes for what Christmas has become for children today... And I admit that I miss this feeling so much today... But for a few minutes I was back and felt so warm and wonderful... THANK YOU!!

  • My goodness that was beautifully said. I too can remember those days in upstate NY where we rode on sleighs, snowmobiles, ice skating on lakes, and caroling with the neighbors. Yes! my friend, this song and its rendition takes my back to what Christmas was about. Take care and God Bless. Have a Merry Christmas-my friend...

  • Thank you, I wish you and your family a warm loving Merry Christmas too. Be Safe God Bless you and yours this Christmas... Thank you again for sharing this beautiful video

  • Same to you and yours. Have a very Happy and splendid New Year.

  • OHoly Night is a wonderful arrangement by the TSO proclaiming the Birth of our Lord and Savor Jesus Christ!!! The childrens voices are as angles proclaiming His Birth.

Michael Crawfords voice cuts to your heart. Just wonderful!!!

  • I agree...James LaBries is okay but Michael Crawfords version with Trans Siberian Orchestra is way, way better and gives me chills that know other version has. Theres a bunch I like but this is magic and those last few notes from Michael are truly amazing beyond belief. Bravo!

  • This is by far the Greatest Christmas Song ever written. And this version by the Trans Siberian Orchestra w/the Great tenor of broadway fame- Michael Crawford. This song represents what Christmas is all about. You can take Santa Claus is coming to town, rudolph the red nose reindeer, or grandma got run over by a reindeer. And there is no comparison to this greatest of Christmas songs.

  • Wow

  • I hav 3 TSO xmas cd and the PBS special on VHS

  • You must get Michael's PBS special on DVD as well.

I have it on DVD! Should I get it on VHS now?

  • this is the best version of this song ever done

  • This song proves it: Michael has the heart and voice of an angel.

  • Always has had an angelic voice and heart and always will!

  • This is absolutely tremendous, compare this to what?

  • i really like the narrator's intro......it really sets the mood and builds anticipation.

  • so moving ^^

  • Michael Crawford and Trans-Siberian Orchestra... Wow! I really would like to see them join up many more times in the future.

His voice is truly amazing, TSO really knows who to pick.

They chose Patti Russo/Patricia Rousseau to sing on TSO's Beethoven's Last Night album, which again was a great choice!

    We love TSO!

  • I have recently come back to ''christianity'' from a long period of doubt and questioning. And this peice, whoever did it. Wether it be Phelps or this Mike guy or anyone, this song has always held my faith. I forgot it somehow. And this song no matter how many times I hear it, makes me remember how I used to feel whenever I went to church. I've found that feeling now in my children, but I have to say this song...still manages to move me even to this day.

  • Welcome back :)

  • *chills*

  • I'm going to end this Michael vs. Phelps feud right now. Both of these men are exceptional singers, whereas one is NO better or worse than the other. There is really no good or bad, only progress. Futhermore, once you've learned to sing properly, the focus of singing is centered on interpretation of the piece, with the voice being the method of deliverance. Crawford's is more epic and grand, whereas Phelps is based on a gospelesque feel.

  • For you people arguing over who has the better sounding voice, or the level of range. I myself have a 3 octave tenor range, but you don't see me making millions of dollars, or touring with Trans Siberian. The reasoning, the level of connection, sound, and luck (mostly the latter). However, my point is still, interpretation. I'm not denying Phelp's exceptional range, however, I personally think this piece should be performed exactly how Crawford performs it. Not blown over the top.

  • Less is certainly more in this case.

  • Forgive me. I'm not implying that gospel music is not epic or grand (far from it), but rather, I meant that Crawford's is more smooth, free, and gradually building.

  • This performance gives me chills.

    (the good kind of course)

  • This is Michael Crawford right?

  • The one and only!! Voice of flawless perfection!

  • Cont'd...Also I hope you are not telling people that you are a Christian because according to Gods word showing jealousy or disrespect towards other people( or fanaticism )is not biblical. Let people like who they want "phelpsfanatic". Maybe if I went on a David Phelps video and shoved Michael Crawford down his fans throats you might understand what I'm talking about. Respect other people and artists. You don't have to like them but just show some respect!

  • yes u are right,I agree to u..

  • Quite spamming all the Michael Crawford "O'Holy Night" videos trying to shove Phelps down are throats "phelpsfanatic". Michael is amazing and incredibly powerful and passionate in his performance of this song. You don't have to agree with me but you also need to respect that this man has talent as does Mr. Phelps and if people enjoy this version, wether they like it more or less, you need to respect that to. If your not going to give Michael a chance why are you even clicking onto this site?

  • EXTREMELY POWERFUL!!!

Go check out the Celtic Woman/Chloe Agnew version..... simply amazing!!!

  • This is the best christmas song ever.

  • Wonderful.

  • WOW!

  • kjærringstæmme...

  • Happy 7117 that's a good one;

the Mikester! Never heard the term before although I googled it and it seems its quite common...but anyway it sooo fits and I heard it here first

...And the song[wow wow wow]heard that here first
