The Magars you see in this documentary are different from the mainstream Magars of Nepal, although they also identify themselves as Magars, i.e. Kham Magars to be precise. They are less Hinduized and speak a different language called Kham which is unintelligible with the mainstream Magar language. Those who have migrated and settled outside of their homelands in the past few decades have become more Hinduized. The desire to preserve the linguistic and cultural identity is on the rise though.
two thumbs up for this very informative film on Shamanism practiced by Magars,it covers the ritual practice as well as thier life styles.really great vid. in my opinion, you should submit this project for the international indigeneous film festival held in Nepal every year.I was wondering what took you so long to put this vid in u tube, since the vid was filmed in 1981.thanx for interesting vid..
@kaythapa56 This documentary was shot by Michael Oppitz in the village of Taksera in Rukum district (West Nepal) in late 1970s. Michael Oppitz is a renowned German ethnologist. He was a professor at the University of Zurich and was the Director of the Zurich Museum of Ethnology. Most of his work deals with anthropological study of various nationalities of Nepal.
A pleasure to see that this, what's been called "Unquestionably the most important German ethnographic film ever made" (by Filmmuseum München, 1984) is available here u2b !
@nephildevil you should be investigated by a noncorrupt government agency...odds are with a comment like that you are already working in a corrupted government agency..with a comment like that i am pretty sure you might have a large amount of pedophilia on your computer wich also is in line with you probably working for a government agency...fuck you devil..im gonna chase you out,,,,,herbs promote peaceful spirits and slitting a pigs throat to and channeling from the gruesome squeal is sadistic
