i used to have a sony ericsson w580a and loved it. now i have a samsung mythic and hate it cuz its a touch screen phone. ive always liked flip/vertical phones.

I've had this phone for more than a year and love it. I've used the GPS and it's great. It takes awesome South Florida sky/storm/cloud pics. Great phone sound both incoming and outgoing - it has yet to fail me. Except for when Iv'e been too lazy to recharge the battery.

where are the external speakers located? On the back of the phone or the front? The problem I have with my LGCF360 (piece of crap) is that the speakers are on the back and when I set it down I normally set it on its back. The Sony Ericsson W580i I had had a wonderful music player and the speakers were well-defined and were on the front of the phone so it wasn't muffled when I set it down. If anyone else has had the W580i and now has the W518a, is the 518a a suitable replacement for the 580i?

I love the fm radio.

Streaming radio costs money. FM radio is free. And I can get it even in places that are too remote for cell phone service. Plus the camera rocks.

I use this phone most for the stuff they advertise least.

ok .let me tell you about the problems:

1) you need to get a headset adaptor or bluetooth head set for it.

2) you can not use your mp3 files as a ringtone.you have to purchase ringtones.

3) the battery doesnt last too long

4) you can not change the left/right bottons to whatever you want .only the navigation key.

i started off with a "Sony Ericsson" S710a but it got old then over 1 year ago i got the w900i both are discontinued and the w900i is the newer version of the s710a. They are both "Jack-Knife" Models or "Swivel" Phones

I don't want a smart phone and i don't want t a full keyboard.

I'm thinking about getting this phone. Would i be making a mistake?

@roohava as far as your #2 problem  you don't know how to do it first you need a file converter on your desk top . put your MP3 in there convert to MP4 mobile file then the phone will down load it then just press ringtone and then play and your done . will only play 30sec . of the song though .

Not quite sure what all the fuss is about in regards to the headphone jack. All of their phones come with a cord that allows for interchangeable headsets. it's basically the same thing as having a 3.5mm jack.

Overall, the phone leaves very little to desire. All the W series is exactly the same. Just updated housing really.

Does this one have built in FM transmitter and Wi-Fi?

For one, they will never go to micro SD because they OWN the M2 cards!! Why would you take sales from your OWN memory sales? Secondly, the reason there's no 3.5 mm jack is IT'S A SONY PEOPLE!! When did you ever know Sony NOT to give you a device that you didn't have to buy THEIR shit for? It's an ass phone anyway... Clamshells are just as gay as the dude that made this video.

it stands for HSDPA, it's just saying you're using 3G. When youre using Edge, the H isn't there.

i HATE the ericsson proprietary headphone jack. i HAAAAAAAAAATE it. sony's phone's are supposed to be intuitive for media, and its very COUNTERINTUITIVE to use their annoying headphone plug-ins just to plug in your own headphones. BLEH!!!!
