The 29-year-old league star has revealed he has ignored advice to have an operation to remove a chipped bone in his throat which is pressing against his vocal cords every time he speaks.
in 2004, during a game for the Broncos, Lockyer took a hit to the throat which has caused damage to a small bone in his larynx. This has resulted in his unusually husky-sounding voice, which could be corrected with surgery that Lockyer has so far declined to undergo
@bcsportsreporter It could have forced his retirement and now i think that because he's left it so long there's a chance it will worsen he voice further, or he will lose his voice forever.

Lol i find it so funny how all of the NSW supporters are paying out Lockyer. How does leading 6 consecutive wins in State of Origins, being a captain of a 6 time grand final champion team or playing the most games in NRL history make you gay or a bad person?
wow some people are stupid... for those who don't know, it was an injury earlier in his career where he took a knock to his larynx. he decided not to get the surgery to fix it until the end of his career
@fckitscameron the cheek bone was a completely separate injury. his voice has been raspy for years, his cheek bone has been broken for a week. there is no way a cheek bone could even change your voice.
@kroqster against the north sydney bears in 2001, a hit in the throat dislodged a bone in his voicebox, he thencould not speak at all for a few weeks, but it came back in the end
his throat got injured during a tackle he made. it can be fixed through surgery but there is a slight chance he could lose his voice forever...i know what id do...the same, nothing
i hate to see him leave, yeah he got tackled and a bone in his throat is broken against his vocal chords so his voice is like that, i can be fixed. not during his career because it won't heal
