neely was a amazing. the problem with the bruins was Harry Sinden. He did nothing to get the team better hence Neely had to score, fight, and hit. he wore down. Not many guys like Neely in today's NHL. 50 goals in 44 games from a Power Forward...amazing...just amazing
neely clearly beat samuelsson thats a no contest, don't know why it is even said to be a draw, neely scored 50 goals in 44 games, plus a another two 50 goals seasons. he had 9 goals in 9 games with 4 assists giving him 13 points which is insane, do to lock out season. he had 11 goals in 14 games, and 29 goals in 49 games into his last season. guys today have trouble doing that and neely was in severe pain. not to mention neely almost has as many points as games played in his career
look at detroit chuckie: what a dipshit, neely clearly met him head on and also won. he split basil eye, sent him to the locker room for stitches. neely always played with class, and won most of his fights.
what 90% of the morons who watch these videos and comment on cam neely really have no idea that he was in fact, 10x a better hockey player than anyone he fought. look at neelys scoring first, then look at his fighting, and then youll realize he was easly the best power forward to ever play the game.
You're right! Gordie Howe's fighting prowess is a myth! In a 6 team league, Howe never had to face a guy whose sole job was to fight! Howe beat the crap out of Lou Fontanoto- a marginal player that was tough. Nowhere near even a top 100 fighter all-time. Neely took on Clark, Kocur, Semenko, Brashear, Baumgartner, McGill, Wells, Nilan, McCrae, Carkner, Tocchet, and other greats, generally considered top 50 fighters of all-time. He won as many as he lost against the best of the best.
@BoSoxnation1972 the only thing that is a myth is your brain. howe was a feared fighter and very few had the stones to test him and those that did found out what fontinato did........it was a bad idea, howe played during the 60s when stick fights were common and he played in the WHA in the 70s which was filled with bench clearing brawls yet you never hear of him getting his ass kicked.
@spillbait69 LMAO In Howe's 1st NHL fight, Bill Ezinicki peppered Howe so badly, that the referee, King Clancy, threatened to fine Bill $25 if he didn't stop. Howe never had more than 3 fights in an entire season. He also lost to 5'10 Bill Juzda of Toronto twice. NY Times Dec.3rd 1951 "Fern Flaman challenged Howe to a fight throwing a couple punches and tearing the jersey off Gordies back and Howe wanted no part of him" Howe also lost to Frank Beaton. Howe's rep was built on the Fontanato fight!
@spillbait69 Just to further illistrate my point, name a single guy who is rated in the top 25 fighters of all-time that Howe ever fought. Just one! The truth is, he never did because it was a 6 team league back then, and teams couldn't afford to have a useless goon.
Even when you hear old timers recount the Fontinato fight, Lou becomes this 6'2 220lb monster, when in reality, he was 6'1 195...10 pounds lighter than Howe!
Feel free to check all of this infor for yourself, Booster! LMAO
@spillbait69 You haven't contradicted a single point that I made. Howe still got his ass kicked on more than one occasion by smaller guys, he never beat a top tier fighter in the all-time rankings! Hell, I am more impressed with Barry Beck's dance card, and Beck never got pummeled! His only loss that I recall was a close fight with Behn Wilson, that could be called a draw. Gordie how was tough, and played tough, but his fighting prowess is exaggerated to this day.
funny how the guys who played against him and knew him best all say the same thing about him and his ability to fight?
funny how eben in the WHA where brawls were a big seller no one wanted anything to do with him huh? funny how even in his return to the NHL people were still afraid of him despite his age huh?
wht i fifnd truly laughable is that you say he is myth because he never fought stiffs that couldnt do anything but fight.
@spillbait69 What are you talking about? LMFAO When Howe went back to the NHL, people weren't afraid of him! They didnt try and fight him because he was a 51 year old man! LMFAO People would chant "get off the ice and into your wheelchair" when he came to the Boston Garden, and he was playing for Hartford. You think he could have fought with guys like O'Reilly, Jonathan and Wensink, who were 25 years younger? LMFAO Gimme a break Booster! Thanks for the laughs! ROTFLMAO
@spillbait69 I don't need to Booster. Ive read enough books and seen enough interviews to know that he was tough, but his fighting prowess was exaggerated! He's the ultimate "big fish" story of the NHL. Larry Robinson had a similar mythical toughness that stemmed from his thrashing of Dave Schultz. People thought of Larry as invincible, until he picked a fight with Dave Huchison, and got his clock cleaned in a fight he started. Ken Dryden talks about it in his book The Game.

Ok, I'm a Bruins fan, but heres the truth..in between what you 2 idiots are saying! That's the understatement of the year about the new Garden. The old garden was electric! If you haven't been there, it's impossible to explain to people what it was like. It's like Fenway. If they ever tear it down, I'm done going to games, but i'll still watch them on TV. Those places are amazing!

Yes! Vintage Basil with his velcro equipped jersey sleeves that tear open when tugged.
