  • Thanks for your interest markmh835.

    According to one Josh bio...

In May 2001, Groban played the role of Malcolm Wyatt in the season finale of the television series Ally McBeal, performing "You're Still You." The series creator David E. Kelley was impressed at Groban's performance at The Family Celebration event, and, based on the audience reaction to Groban's singing, Kelley created a character for Josh in this finale.

The character of Malcolm Wyatt was so popular, with 8,000 emails from fans, that Groban was asked to come back the next season to reprise his role and perform "To Where You Are."

  • Also, this was NOT Josh's first performance on TV or on "Ally McBeal." He first appeared in a previous episode of Ally McBeal as the SAME character about 6 months prior to this episode. He was a high school student jilted by his prom date who hired Ally to sue his ex-girlfriend. Instead, Ally ends up being Josh's prom date. At the prom, Josh performs the song "You're Still You" -- his first performance on TV and his introduction to American audiences. Look it up on YouTube.

  • OK, let's get our facts straight: this episode of "Ally McBeal" was SEVERAL years BEFORE 9/11, like in 1997 or 1998. (It doesn't make the scene any less powerful.) The minister's wife (Josh's mom) was killed in a senseless mugging and murder shortly before Christmas, causing the minister to lose faith in God. The church board tried to fire him, and he hired Ally to help him keep his job. Josh also couldn't sing after his mother's murder. But, as usual, Ally saves the day & the family.

  • Yes. I believe this was a 9/11 episode. It was very emotional. Still tough to watch

  • A HUGE thank you to David Foster, wife Linda, Richard Marx and especially to Josh Groban for this most powerfull and moving song. I first saw it performed by Josh years ago on Ally McBeal and still it remains profoundly in my heart....and always will.

  • I will never forget this moment of television, as it introduced me to Josh Groban. I am still blown away by this performance!

  • this was the first time i ever saw Josh Groban!

  • Se trata de una Navidad y el recuerdo de los seres queridos que ya no están. Y la escena en que Ally deposita unas flores en una tumba, es la de su gran Amor. Su amigo y compañero Billy.

  • Thank you!!!

  • You've made people happy putting this up, Fox should stick a sock in it.

  • His mother had died and his father, the minister, was still very bitter over her death and questioned his own faith and whether he could carry on his own ministry... this was in the shadow of 9/11... if I remember correctly. Those of you that are still members of NetFlix can download the all the episodes of Ally McBeal and find the complete episodes with Josh Groban. It is well worth the effort. Besides, I keep getting warnings that Fox is gonna take down my clips.

  • Who died in this scene?

  • Thank you so much Hoailona252 for putting this on. It is so touching and beautiful.

  • Quien murió? Yo no vi este capitulo no se de que se trata, alguien me puede contar un poco porque me gustaria saber la historia. gracias.

  • This is one of the most overwhelmingly emotional and beautiful songs :)

  • Thank you so much for uploading this video. I love this performance, it's so exciting *.*
