The GP2X is awesome...but if I want to play Arcade games on the TV using my home theater for sound I'll my modded Xbox which has a 750gb hard drive and I have hundreds of arcade games on MAME on it.
Very nice. Your own portable 80's arcade! Wouldn't we have killed for one of those when we were kids? The 13 year old version of me would be totally losing his mind!
I would have paid for it with a year's worth of part time job money. Not only portable but hooking it up to your TV and blow away every console in existence for 15 years.
Would it be possible build a mame arcade cabinet that used a USB arcade-style controller (maybe a playstation one with a usb adapter), and have it running on a GP2X with the cradle/breakout..?
Then you could play big screen with real arcade feel at home, and then undock your GP2X for on the move.
absolutely. there is a breakout board / cradle that the gp2x sits on that will accept USB controllers and TV / VGA out. a lot of the emulators support controllers from it now. check out the gp2x wiki or gp32x dot com for more info.
Guys, if you like this video check out this video's description for a URL to a new video where the GP2X goes head to head to an Arcade MAME cabinet. ...alternatively, click on my name and look for:
Well currently im on win XP and have been useing mame 114... the dos based mame, I found Mame 32 and it works great but it wont accept some of the Roms ive been trying, bubble bobble for instance, so im wondering if these roms are just incompatable or if i need to actually unzip these roms.
Humm i see. Thanks for the advice... how would i tell the diffrence as the site im pulling the roms from doesnt list what version of Mame they are for. I really appreicate any help you give me
yeah, and don't forget the later versions of mame don't support all the controls as earlier versions. For example, you can't play outrun with a control stick, you need a paddle or something.
It's priced pretty nicely. A new gp2x is around US$180 so it's priced between the DS and PSP. but when you can use standard SD cards instead of overpriced flash cartridges and memory sticks, you really start saving.
Plus, you can't really run MAME on a DS and neither the DS or PSP can be hooked up to a TV directly.
There is no CPS2 emulator for the GP2X yet (so no Street Fighter 2) but I don't doubt it will be made some day. About linking joysticks... work is being done right now. It's possible but no software is available yet.
Yeah, and Model 3 games too, but these drivers are a lot harder to port. PSP has a CPS2 emulator which is *not* mame. And as a single machine emulator, it's a lot more optimized. Someone is alreaedy working on a CPS2 emulator for GP2X I think anyway.

I posted but didn't make the video. Regardless, what problem are you having with MAME? is it on the gp2x, pc, mac, linux, etc?

You don't unzip them. Remember that as you change versions of MAME, you *may* need to change versions of roms.

Just as a follow-up to all the CPS2 comments: There's a REALLY good/fast CPS2 emulator out for GP2X now. :)

wish they had a connector to allow external joysticks :)

Dani128 - Street Fighter II (including Champion Edition and Turbo/Hyper Fighting) doesn't run on CPS2. It uses CPS1.
Later versions, like Super SF2, were CPS2.

Yeah, I can't wait for a CPS2 emulator. It's just a matter of time before someone takes it up.
Malc1976, check out the NeoGeo emulator on the gp2x running KOF96 and games of similiar caliber:
