In some states you get it automatically when you add one more factor. Like he killed him and robbed him. Or he raped someone and then killed her. Had he just killed her, or raped her, he'd probably just get life. But both together, death. Or other factors including he planned it out, mutilated the body, showed no remorse what so ever etc etc.

I'm just against the death penalty on principle. I'm not defending their actions. But I don't think it's fair to impose any kind of a death penalty. i think its an entirely fair arugment to say that once you kill a person and take their life - the murderer loses the right to have their own life. there cannot be a double standard. if you value life so little than you can kill another person then your life is worth just as little and you should be killed. not fed and housed with like-minded buddies at the cost of innocent tax payers.. However. death penalty cannot be enforced unless it is irrefutable and 100% evident we have the right man!

Okay, let's get this straight. The punishment for murder should NOT be a week of community service. The punishment for murder should be a long time in a prison where you'll have to fight to to get out in one piece. And then they'll see what a shit hole it is, and they probably don't really want to get back in there.
But murdering someone for murdering? That is just hypocrisy. You said it yourself, all lives have the same value, and they will appreciate life after a tough time in jail.
I doubt that "a long time in prison where you'll have to fight to get out in one piece" would cause the inmate to see the error of his ways and spur reform. In fact, it will dehumanize him further. That's why so many convicts are repeat offenders once they get out.
In a few years, you're going to wish that the death penalty was more widely used. The prisons have no money to feed/shelter these people and are therefore releasing them.
1. You have no proof that the death penalty works as a deterrent to crime. America has the death penalty, and the crime rate has been out of control there for as long as I can remember.
2. Singapore may have a low incidence of crime due to other socio-economic factors completely unrelated to the death penalty. I'm American, and have lived in Malaysia for the past 2 years. The social values placed on family and community are far greater here than in the west.
3. You sound as though prison systems NEVER work, or make the inmates see "the error of their ways". You cant prove this either. In Malaysia, the majority of people who go to jail integrate successfully back into society, again in part because of the social values they are exposed to plus the efforts to actively rehabilitate them. We dont have the same problem with repeat offenders.

It's not fair that someone who only MIGHT be guilty and someone who is MOST LIKELY guilty should receive the death penatly, cuz then ur only basing the punishment on the strengths of the case, I dont think its fair that someone who commited the crime would live over someone who commited the same crime, but just had less evidence against them.

We treat those prisoners better than we treat our homeless people. If you KILL another person, you don't deserve to live. The life of a murderer is not equal to the life of an innocent person...
In Islam, if the murderer knew the victim and killed him over a personal dispute between them, then only the victim's family own the right to choose between forgiving the killer or executing him.
(An Eye for an Eye (simple rule), otherwise you would get revenge, retaliation and chaos).
If the killing was for money and not related to the victim, the murderer gets the death penalty automatically.

i think its an entirely fair arugment to say that once you kill a person and take their life - the murderer loses the right to have their own life. there cannot be a double standard. if you value life so little than you can kill another person then your life is worth just as little and you should be killed. not fed and housed with like-minded buddies at the cost of innocent tax payers.. If the penalty isn't kept high enough, crime will persist. If the punishment for murder were a week of community service, no one would give a shit and murders would skyrocket.
See Singapore's legal system. Many crimes are punishable by death (firing a gun during a robbery, possessing a certain amount of drugs, just to name a few), and it's one of the cleanest/safest countries in the world.

The punishment for murder should be a long time in a prison where you'll have to fight to to get out in one piece. And then they'll see what a shit hole it is, and they probably don't really want to get back in there.

I doubt that "a long time in prison where you'll have to fight to get out in one piece" would cause the inmate to see the error of his ways and spur reform. In fact, it will dehumanize him further. That's why so many convicts are repeat offenders once they get out.
In a few years, you're going to wish that the death penalty was more widely used. The prisons have no money to feed/shelter these people and are therefore releasing them.

1. You have no proof that the death penalty works as a deterrent to crime. America has the death penalty, and the crime rate has been out of control there for as long as I can remember.
2. Singapore may have a low incidence of crime due to other socio-economic factors completely unrelated to the death penalty. I'm American, and have lived in Malaysia for the past 2 years. The social values placed on family and community are far greater here than in the west.

3. You sound as though prison systems NEVER work, or make the inmates see "the error of their ways". You cant prove this either. In Malaysia, the majority of people who go to jail integrate successfully back into society, again in part because of the social values they are exposed to plus the efforts to actively rehabilitate them. We dont have the same problem with repeat offenders.
