Hydrogen fuel cells are actually LESS efficient than gasoline engines in terms of the power generated... and cracking water into hydrogen and oxygen takes power, too, probably from your local coal or oil power plant.

I know you can run a standard gasoline engine on a hydrogen/air mix, but you'd have to store the hydrogen under enormous pressure to carry enough to get anywhere. Also, pressurized tanks aside, hydrogen gas is highly explosive. I'll stick with gasoline for now, thanks.

It has been established several time that the amount of power potential in gasoline and fossil fuels is over 20 times that of hydrogen. It would take a 3000lb tank and ungodly pressure to allow a car to make a 300 mile trip. What a bunch of tools

Chemically speaking that's not true, per mol or even by mass, hydrogen has a greater energy density (but not by volume), theroeticaly if an engine was produced that could run at high presures it would be very powerful (combustion not hydroelectic) and yeah the gas tank is a big problem, especially in a car crash.

Its not a bad idea at all but! for the money yous ave on gas, you will pay elsewhere. These hydro systems are electric. Does battery power come for free? and when your alternator is charging at its general rate, your battery is being sucked dry by these systems and sooner than normal, you're gonna have to buy a new battery. Aside from that, hydrogen makes metal brittle. so you're saving money on this and one day your engine block cracks..nice

The Hydrogen will most likely be diatomic and will therefore not make your engine components brittle. As far as the statements about batteries, I would say that developments in lithium-ion battery tech will eventually eliminate those problems but for now your very right I don't think there are many cost benefits if any at all.
