  • he uses pimples i think , they aren't made for looping i think ...

  • Joo needs to use his backhand block and loop a bit more, but that wouldnt make him a defender would it?

  • Thanks. Joo se Hyuk is never in a bad match but this one with Ma Lin was special.

  • Hallo

  • there were a couple chops that were too spinny even for ma lin. that's insane

  • good game

  • joo is just amazing, also malin :D

  • i see ma lin getting exhausted giving joo more and more chances to attack.

  • ma lin is brilliant

  • What rubbers does Joo Se Hyuk use?

  • @TheAdamslol so much confusion on the web but, from everywhere i have looked, his forehand is 2.1 Tenergy 64 and his backhand is either 1.7 Curl P1r or 1.2 Grass D-Techs.

  • Thumbs up if u like to chop but dun like to be chop :D

  • These guys are both spin masters and incredible, and I mean seriously, but personally I think a strong off player could handle either.-Primorac vs Ma Lin 2002, Boll vs Ma Lin Volkswagen cup 2010, and Joo vs Kreanga 2010.

  • Joo at 0:48 is like come on man wtf was that

  • joo... how the fk do u do that

  • when they chop the ball it flies so magically!

  • It's such a titans duel! it was holly amazing awsome!

  • With such spider senses and extreme reactions like Joo he could be the n1 of the world if he was an attacker.

  • this sport is like tennis for gifted

...and this match is highest level of entertainment

  • ma lin roxe!espanol

  • The BEST chopper ever...... he was BORN to play table tennis and be a chopper. He should be the world No. 1!

  • people see this sport as "unmanly" but you need a hell of a lot of skill

  • best forehand the sport has seen

  • Ma Lin's traditional penhold backhand back spin drive reminds me of Jiang JiaLiang's. Nice!

  • Against Joo Ma Lin has a much better drop shot to use that Wang Liqin.

Brilliant match. Ma Lin's forehand is just amazing!

  • As for Ma Lin, his loop drive is spectacular to say the least. But for someone who know how to dish it out, he can take precious little of his own medicine. Croaking in front of Joo's significantly less powerful 'surprise' drives; Meh. But the better man won. Yes.

  • @Jayakiran1 My experience of this is that the timing of the shots put you off. It is much harder to play against Joo's drives compared to say Wang Hao and the like. Lots of chops where you got time to prepare your own drive then suddenly the drives. That was also Chen Xinhua's game.

  • Joo Se Hyuk. I'll remember that name. He brings the fight to you. Awesome player.

  • ficken aba nix de mann

  • ficken

  • マリンスイングスピード速過ぎ・・・

  • i LIKE Joo cuz im all about those defenderss! but both skilful players and mah lin is respected :D!

  • So intense the whole way through!! Ma Lins' paddle speed... if only he had played baseball instead of table tennis, I'm thinking the first 120 mph curveball? I've been playing for a few years now and I'm still young, and I can only play with half that much intensity for a couple points a week.

  • Those serves are WICKED!!!

  • @PreppyPoser1 Wicked? Like what your hate-god thinks of you for the dirty feeling you get inside when you see hot sweaty asian men in the throws of athletic competition. Give in. Its OK. God loves you anyway, Admit what you are. Get help.

To everyone else: no disrespect, this is between me and Mr Deeply Repressed Self Loathing Homosexual here.

  • a lot of spin on ma lin's serve!!

  • ma joo see hyuk ha una gomma liscia e una puntinata lunga??? rispondetemi pls =)!

  • hate that dubai sport thing...blocking the scoreboard...zzz

  • ドライブはえーーー!!!

  • quel chateux ce ma lin

  • i really dont like ma lin, but i have to admit its a lotta fun to watch him play against defenders! hes just so fast and powerfull, its unbelivable... also, these two probably have the best footwork of all the top players in the world, its just sick how they are able to move this fast!

  • pretty sure if it went to the 7th game, ma lin would have been very exhausted.

  • @hobbes203 no chance, if you say that you have no idea how these guys train.

  • how can malin hit the ball so powerful, there is so much backspin :D

  • Ma Lin was godlike in this match! Getting to return Joo's reversals with kills that fast; incredible!!!

  • am lin wow is great player

  • ma lin the best!!

  • nice video quality thank you 5*

  • What an exciting and intense fight! Absolutely incredible play from both.

  • すばらしい

  • how bout they both say it

    happy everyone?

  • smart play from the chinese

it's the korean who calls 'chore' not the chinese...

    korean's attack's so weak...

  • your "chore" is a chinese word..

do u not see the korean guy is quiet when he wins most of the time.. its the chinese who exclaim.. and joo is the only defensive player in the world top 10 thats why his style is defensive

  • see it again if you don't get it.... it's now the korean guy who called "chore" now....

if you don't see it, keep checking....

  • ma lin's been training for defenders because joo beat him a couple times before

  • @klu501 in 2003 joo beat ma in the semi finals of world championships

    he won 4-3 i believe

and i believe ma lin didnt shake his hand after the game and he threw his racket up in the air

since then i think ma lin trained really really hard to beat joo

  • 5:24 What the hell was that?

  • i guess that he missed, and he was lucky.

ma lin rulez, it's amazing the way that he rise up the ball being so close to the net, and with an amazing speed. And totally, he was very clever against Joo.

(sorry for my english, i'm from southamerica)

  • I`ve never seen Ma playing that clever againts Joo !

  • wow,this match RULED

  • dude, table tennis is so awesome!! :) i love this sport!!!

  • For the Chinese total domination in Yokohama 2009, Ma Lin was the key. It was he who defeated Kenta Matsudaira and Joo See Hyuk, the 2 greatest threat in the tournament.

  • in modern table tennis, defender is always weaker than offensive player. a great defender can be ranked among the best players but can't be the best player.

joo se hyuk is the example, he is the best defender player but he is ranked n°9 only.

  • that does not make sense..why should a denfense player should not be able to become the best player...ofc it is very hard for defense nowadays but only because the offense players are better..but why should it not be possible that a defense player gets better that all offense players??

  • I agree with you, asdhorst. Only 10 years ago almost nobody would have believed a defender would be in the top 20. Now more young players learn to play defense if it fits their style. Trainers are more open for defense today then 20 years ago. Thanks to Joo. He is a role model and he has a great impact to wipe out the taboo of teaching defense. The future will bring more defense players.

It is very well possible that we will see a modern defender (with strong attack) on rank 1 of the world.

  • yes but in a good day nobody can beat joo

  • I'm a chopper meself but I agree with you. The simple truth is that action will always dominate over reaction.

  • this looks to be a great match

  • joo se hyuk is the best defender ever in table tennis

  • Orly?

  • Zenith of the modern defense ! Absolutely adore him! Props to Ma Lin for winning too.

  • wooh. go ma lin!! go china!!

    zhong guo jia you!!

  • 1:39 AMAZING

  • Joo starts to play after the second set

  • It is difficult with softer recket/rubber, but Joo will be strongest if he has as strong backhand attack as forehand. I hope he'll get it as he gets older.

  • THere's not too many pro choppers out there, I'm not a fan of chopping, but i really enjoy Joo se hyuks skills. Very annoying for the other player and fun to watch.

  • Joo se hiuk is te best!!!!!!!!!!

  • I loved seeing his chop defence against Ma Lin's topspin

  • joo se hyuk beat ma lin in the same tornoment in the same stage 6 year ago :P thats probably why it meant so much to ma lin

  • and it was 4-2 for joo. now its 4-2 for ma lin XD

  • joo not need to change backhand rubber with inverted.

What i mean is just exchange/switch from forehand rubber (inverted) to Backhand.

so he can smash or drive with his backhand

  • He was smashing and riving with his backhand LPs.

  • Yeah, It's sick how Joo can hit with his LPs. I've not seen any other choppers that can attack with long pips as Joo does.

  • Joe Se Hyuk excellent defender.

  • 8:00 awesome

  • 5:25

    Hurensohnball xD

  • i think WTTC 2009 in yokohama is one of the nicest place to have WTTC, just like the WTTC 2003 in paris.

  • I don't understand a shit what the fuck you said, so I give thumbs down...

  • nice shot lmao 5:25

  • does anyone just love ma lins forehand. my god lol

  • I sure do, I practice it everyday, the very same traditional pen hold grip, and the modern grip used by Wang Hao, I'm also currently working on a switch method, from traditional forhand to mordern RPB style in the same loop.

  • nice, same here.

i have rpb down well i just need to work on switching more. although i sort of like how ma lin uses traditional still lol

  • Watching this inspires me to play more table tennis lol

More defensive table tennis, that is.

  • Joo is great player. With good attitude and Sportmanship. I never meet player like that. even samsonov cannot compared with him. Samsonov still can angry and grumble. But I never see Joo do that. His Forehand is very good and Great Spin. But I think some time he should change paddle from pimple to inverted to shock his opponent when playing. because when inverted in backhand,he can execute Backhand TopSpin or Backhand Drive. If he can gain this technique,i think he'll be great threat for china

  • Yep, in this match there were 3 or 4 edgeballs, witch all ended up in points for ma because joo corrected the referee. Inverted rubbers on BH isnt possible on that level, in my oppinion. Plus theres no need for that. He can flip the blade and block with Pimples in if he needs to. Pimpled blocks and smashes are more unpreditable even on that level. (See Fukuoka Harunas BH)

  • Chen Weixing practised with Ma Lin before the match, that surely gave him a taste of what's coming next. But I expected Joo to use his backhand attack more.

  • カットがいつもと違って曲がってる

  • I Love JOO

    朱世赫のことが大好きです

    세혁아 사랑한다.

  • I agree - Joo from Korea's got the best chop I've ever seen

  • I think joo is chopping more and more on his forehand.

  • Joo Se Hyuk the best defence on the world...!!!

Por algo se mantiene en el TOP TEN World Ranking..!!!

Y aqui lo demostro al ingresar entre los 8 mejores del mundo.

    Es un campeonato mundial verdad..!!!

    JOO is very very good..!!

  • wow, this match is so good!!! :)

    amazing!!

    5 stars ^^

  • amazing match, I was praying for Joo the whole time!

  • ma lin's forehand is GOD

  • Awsome match!!!

  • great match, but i think kenta matsudaira had more chance of wining against ma lin than joo se hyuk, it would be great if you could upload that match man!

    :) so why so serious?

  • Looks like Joo gave away a few points on that last game. Great match.

  • so fast?!!!! i was watching this live yesterday night

  • This is amazing! Screw NBA!

  • amazing 5 stars

  • Ma lin looks like he trained specifically to play Joo after seeing his improvement. Ive never seen him play this well against Joo. And I've seen them play alot.

  • Yep, in the first 2 Sets he playes ridiculously good. Joo had no chance. But then, Joo managed to get into the game via attacking before ma lin could attack and switch to defence. He smashes a lot now with his pimples on his BH, i think thats very good for his game.

Sadly, Ma was to good in this match, but im pretty sure Joo will win again against him.

  • I agree with you, I also think ma lin watched more videos of Joo now to understand why he lost the last few times.

And like some others also said he is chopping now more with his forehand which is maybe not so good vs ma lin but its a good thing to have in the future than only counter attacking. Joo for rank 1 soon I hope !! :D

  • Yeah i know what you mean, but, sometimes you have no choice but to chop on the FH. Even for Joo its not possible to counterattack every loop. That wouldnt be good anyway, because modern defence depend on changin the speed during the point and doing things, your opponent doenst anticipate.

Rank 1 is far far away, but he definately deserves one major title in his career for revolutionizing to way players think about defensive styles.

  • exactly he needs to change from chopping to counter attacking sometimes its good to confuse the opponent. unfortunately rank 1 is indeed far away for him but he can definately say for himself when he quits tabletennis that he brought something new to this tabeltennis world which is amazing defencing and I really hope he will get some kind of award. Because he's a great player, plays every point at his best, great fairplay and alot of other things which can not be said for a lot of players.

  • Hm, i dont think there will be an award or something like that, unfortunately. WTTC '03 should have been his masterpice. The sad thing for him was that it was schlagers destiny to win the championchip (he had like 9 matchballs against him in the 3 matches before the final, got it from his book)

  • Nice job getting this.
