I lost my mother in early 2008 due to the negligence of a contractor. In 2000 we hired a contractor to build an addition on to our home as well, I was 13. he did nothing to our home but damage, he did no work just tore off the roof and left. It rained for two days straight the water damage was done. My mom knew nothing of the damages of the mold and what it would do. She repaired our home the best of her capabilities. She died three years ago due to black mold exposure. She died a painful death
Inspectors aren't necessary if they let contractors get away with poor workmanship. I am shaking my head everyday at the way our government continues to operate in an incompetent, unproductive, self destructing manner. protect yourself because the system in place will not do it for you!
I drank Talisker and Laphroaig to overcome my toxic mold poisoning, very old Scottish medicinal scotches from a damp and moldy country. Hence my username. I believe in free speech & the fact you are trying to stay positive on this contractor's job, but if you would read the court records, you would find he cut corners for his own profit. The quality of ones work in any discipline is a matter of morality and ethics, and too many carpenter think of the building code as a goal to try to achieve--it is, however, the bare minimum. Even when homes are built properly according to modern building codes the presence of black mould is, in my opinion as a former mould re-mediator and renovator, largely a product of modern building practices. Vapor barrier and fiberglass insulation help to provide the perfect conditions for mould.
I have taken a real interest in building science since 2001 & your points are good, but most can be corrected, for instance, an air exchange system installed would help prevent interior moister problems.
However, what can you do when the contractor refuses to follow installation guild lines & building codes? There are no laws in place in Wisconsin to punish the abuser no matter how much property damage & injuries he has caused. Laws should be changed to protect future homebuilders.

I am building a house and during construction in a stage of rough framing it was raining a lot. My my house is dried in now, but if I go under my subfloor and look up, I see mold spots. I send out the samples to the lab. The kind I got is called.
Cladosporium, and brown hyphae, and yeasts.

After countless hours of research and inquiring from environmental agencies I was told my daughter and I should be seen by an Envirnmental Health Specialist. They are very far and few between. Have your blood tested for mold antibodies by a toxicologist by occupational\environmental medicine. Don't get me wrong, these mold experts, are still skeptical about the health effects of mold. Google occupational - environmental medicine in your area. Your family doctor or emergency doctors are of no help. I also am suffering from Mold. Move in with realitives until you get better. Be carful not to take the mold with you.
You need to see a endocrine specialist, as well as having your home inspected by a Certified Indoor Hygenist or Certified Mold Inspector. Exposure to mold is one of the hardest things to test for because there really has not been a national standard set. But be persistant.
It is important you see an Environmental Health Specialist. This is a highly specializied field and this type of specialist is difficult to find. Mny specialist are not trained and do not know the proper diagnostic test to run. You may be able to contact your local or state health department environmental division and ask if they know of any environmental speciialist in your state. They are not common, but you will eventually find one.
My girlfriend and I bought our 1st home in August and hired inspectors to check out the home. We found black mold in the attic and crawl space and had it remediated. Over the next 4 months I got severely ill: I've been to the ER over 30 times. multiple doctor's visits and specialists - I've had headaches, gastrointestinal problems - my bowels have been orange ever since we moved; chest pain, heart palpitations, abdominal pain and spasms, muscle inflammation and infections that don't go away.
1. I'm sad to say the majority of Doctors, general & specialist still ignore & refuse to acknowledge facts that Toxic Mold & Deadly Bacteria is harmful to health & can & has caused health problems, even death. A few years ago the Medical Association admitted in a medical article that mold & bacteria is harmful to health. Apparently most doctors ignore updated medical articles.
All the molds below were found in testing on our home, my disease was specifically caused by a Thermophillic Bacteria.
2. When I was originally tested, my blood was tested for maybe 4 or 5 strains of mold called Aspergillus & Penicillium by the clinic, there was no test at the time for Stachybotrys, please keep in mind that Aspergillus & Penicillium has over 200 strains each. In my opinion 4 or 5 strains tested hardly scratches the service. Not to mention all the Bacteria strains even more dangerous. Who knows what the exposures to combinations can do to you? What if the affects show up years later?
3. All the side affects that can occur due to mold & bacteria exposure has no limits; also every person can react differently. I'm sorry but until our Medical Association, Insurance Industry, Building Industry, & Justice System takes this type of illness seriously, I have no magic answers. Keep in mind I was totally failed locally by treating specialist for 3 years; I had to go out of state to the Mayo Clinic & then to the Transplant Center at the University of Minneapolis for proper care.
4. If I had not went to Minnesota I would have never survived 2004.
To be honest with you there is this huge gap between testing for mold & bacteria & medical treatment after the fact of illness. The gap in between has to be taken care of, advanced testing, research, funding, education, found causes, all leading to better medical treatments & prevention. Back in 2002 I approached this contractor outside the Village Hall, I asked for an explanation on poor workmanship on the house appearing in this video. He was a Village Board Trustee at that time, he had replied: He had nothing to do with work on that house. I am building a house and during construction in a stage of rough framing it was raining a lot. My my house is dried in now, but if I go under my subfloor and look up, I see mold spots. I send out the samples to the lab. The kind I got is called.
Cladosporium, and brown hyphae, and yeasts.
I have no idea what kind of health effect this can have on me. I used Chlorine mixed with water 50/50 and sprayed it. Most of it went away. Any advice?

Yes, it should get to the media, and the name of the contractor should be exposed to that community, so no one else hires him. Sorry to hear of all of your suffering. I suffer from having worked in an office building that was contaminated. It's maddening, and difficult to find the right medical professionals to believe me and give me the right diagnostic tests. What type of doctor does one seek out to run the right diagnostic tests and treatments? Thanks!

I'm deling with the same health issues from 9 yrs of exposure. After countless hours of research and inquiring from environmental agencies I was told my daughter and I should be seen by an Envirnmental Health Specialist. They are very far and few between. I live in Michigan and have only been able to find 3 in the state, none of whom see children. The closest place I have found for my child is at the University of Cleveland ofr the University of Illinois.

(cont'd) ...My potassium level in my blood has been low several times and my white blood count has also been hovering on the low end. We brought another inspector in last week, only to find that there is black mold in nearly every wall of our house AND the ducta - ALL of which the other inspectors missed. I need help. Have your blood tested for mold antibodies by a toxicologist by occupational\environmental medicine. Don't get me wrong, these mold experts, are still skeptical about the health effects of mold. Google occupational - environmental medicine in your area. Your family doctor or emergency doctors are of no help. I also am suffering from Mold. Move in with realitives until you get better. Be carful not to take the mold with you.

You need to see a endocrine specialist, as well as having your home inspected by a Certified Indoor Hygenist or Certified Mold Inspector. Exposure to mold is one of the hardest things to test for because there really has not been a national standard set. But be persistant.

It is important you see an Environmental Health Specialist. This is a highly specializied field and this type of specialist is difficult to find. Mny specialist are not trained and do not know the proper diagnostic test to run. You may be able to contact your local or state health department environmental division and ask if they know of any environmental speciialist in your state. They are not common, but you will eventually find one.

My girlfriend and I bought our 1st home in August and hired inspectors to check out the home. We found black mold in the attic and crawl space and had it remediated. Over the next 4 months I got severely ill: I've been to the ER over 30 times. multiple doctor's visits and specialists - I've had headaches, gastrointestinal problems - my bowels have been orange ever since we moved; chest pain, heart palpitations, abdominal pain and spasms, muscle inflammation and infections that don't go away.

1. I'm sad to say the majority of Doctors, general & specialist still ignore & refuse to acknowledge facts that Toxic Mold & Deadly Bacteria is harmful to health & can & has caused health problems, even death. A few years ago the Medical Association admitted in a medical article that mold & bacteria is harmful to health. Apparently most doctors ignore updated medical articles.
All the molds below were found in testing on our home, my disease was specifically caused by a Thermophillic Bacteria.

2. When I was originally tested, my blood was tested for maybe 4 or 5 strains of mold called Aspergillus & Penicillium by the clinic, there was no test at the time for Stachybotrys, please keep in mind that Aspergillus & Penicillium has over 200 strains each. In my opinion 4 or 5 strains tested hardly scratches the service. Not to mention all the Bacteria strains even more dangerous. Who knows what the exposures to combinations can do to you? What if the affects show up years later?

3. All the side affects that can occur due to mold & bacteria exposure has no limits; also every person can react differently. I'm sorry but until our Medical Association, Insurance Industry, Building Industry, & Justice System takes this type of illness seriously, I have no magic answers. Keep in mind I was totally failed locally by treating specialist for 3 years; I had to go out of state to the Mayo Clinic & then to the Transplant Center at the University of Minneapolis for proper care.

To be honest with you there is this huge gap between testing for mold & bacteria & medical treatment after the fact of illness. The gap in between has to be taken care of, advanced testing, research, funding, education, found causes, all leading to better medical treatments & prevention. I never realized Mold is so toxic, how did he install the house wrap that created so much water penetration? Did he leave 3 feet gaps between the sheets or something? The reason I ask is because I am building a house and I want to make shore the house wrap is done right by my contractor.

I'm a contractor and all I can say is WOW. This would not happen in California. Some heads need to roll before it gets to that point and I suggest you try to get the media involved. Make it a public stink for that Asshole. So sorry for your loss, truly sorry.

This contractor is the very lowest slime, not only fucking up your house, but also your health. I hope a doctor cuts his fat gut open while cutting corners & this jerk-off suffers a long, agonizing, painful death. He should take some MMS to kill the fungi in his lungs. The only thing is that i don't now if he can take it with his medication. Its way safer to do. Ionic colloidal silver as well. Probably something else can help him naturally.

Thank you for your video. I have been home from work for about a month now with some sort of illness-chronic,uncontrolable cough and stuffed sinuses. It started after I got my job last January. Dr tests don't show anything, but will be tested for mold allergy next week. It smells moldy at my work. Boss in denial when i mentioned it. I called the officals who will investigate.

Never hesitate getting more than one medical diagnosis; I would have never lived through 2004 without the third diagnosis.

I feel for you. I am going through the EXACT same thing. However, the laws are different in different states regarding contractors defects. I am able to sue the builder, however, it is costing me everything I own to do so.

This is such a tradgedy, and you have been so diplomatic in your responses. I admire your heart=). I too was exposed to toxic mold, I worked in it for six years. I was very ill, I was diagnosed with a lung disease called sarcoidosis which has affected my immune system. Although stachybotrys and aspergillus molds were found, my employer is protected by Calif law. WE MUST fight to educate physicians and change laws in WI and CA. That contractor needs to be prosecuted. Prayers 2 U & your family!

I am very sorry for all that you have been through. I cannot say that I've been through the same thing, but I do feel the frustration and disappointment from dealing with people who just don't seem to care. I am dealing with issues with mold and I am actually applying for disability.

Yes I was diagnosed with HP (Pulmonary Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis.)
Your right everyone's body reacts differently, but I do believe a large amount of people would have become ill after over eight years of exposure. Thank you for your response, I hope and pray your ordeal turned out better.

Back in 2002 I approached this contractor outside the Village Hall, I asked for an explanation on poor workmanship on the house appearing in this video. He was a Village Board Trustee at that time, he had replied: He had nothing to do with work on that house. Recently I've had the opportunity to look at many pictures & I've read the contractor's legal briefs, dated Sept. 2003, page 2,(stipulation 11) he admitted to the flaws in black & white. This contractor lied right to my face back in 2002.

I was told a similar story by a town employee this contractor lied to, apparently he is using his position to sway people. Now we have Village employees spreading his lies and covering up his terrible business acts. His initials B.S. stands for the Bull Shit he is feeding the general public. 150 years ago they took care of criminals like this contractor/town official with a tall tree and short rope.

I was exposed to mold for a long time, 14 years before I got sick seems this is the case with you as well. But I see so many people trying to focus blame on a single individual in many cases. I sympathize for you but I think the focus of every victim should be to bring main stream medicine on board so that we can stop future tragedies such as ours, not dismising the contractor that caused you grief just we must understand they are hoplessly ignorant. We need to get main stream on board!

Regarding contractor ignorance, there's no excuse. A person makes a choice to become a contractor, they have the responsibility to educate themselves just like so many other professions. This specific contractor knew better & chose to cut corners for his profit. That's not ignorance, that's dishonesty & greed. Contractors all have a choice. My goal is to create a law protecting the innocent & punishing the guilty, this law would hold contractors accountable for being the cause of such tragedies.

The TV stations ran stories on this faulty workmanship case back in 2002. A local so called contractor destroyed the Stratford family's health & home & in 2003 court records verified the negligent acts.
What does the Village of Stratford do?
They allow him to be the VP of the town!
He now makes the decisions for the entire town...

two questions, is this the contractor the same guy that was working for the Marshfield hosp. w/his crew back in 1991/1992.1 more question wasn't that at the same time two of his friends who also worked @ the hosp. were sent too prison for theft or some similar crimes?

I know this contractor, I know his 2nd X wife and I've heard plenty. Let's just say he has a colorful past. He sold a house south-east of Stratford out by the flowage to a doctor that works in Marshfield, they had Black Mold problems too. I'm glad he lives in Stratford, not Colby!
