    Bob

  • reading milton's paradise lost these days,,, no answers y'all

  • thanks so much...great live version

  • Aloha bobjazz. Thanks so much for posting this. I have been working hard for a long time to get on stage. Sometimes it helps to see great role models of what entertainers can do, what music can be. This is it!

    Peace, danny

  • gettin' sweaty just watchin' this...

  • Love Cold Duck solopart! Greatest Song!

  • loved this since the 70s

  • Outta Sight, That Night!!!

  • so it's music for this guy <

  • he can listen, play, and smile; all at the same time!!

    WOW & LOL

  • The lady at 2:17 is merely clapping out her Anglo-Saxon rhythmic habit!! lol The lyrics are even more relevant today than over 40 years ago.

  • I had the opportunity to sit with Les and Company in North Hollywood... I was and still am awe'd by such talent... A gracious gentleman..

  • ME LIEKS

  • Cats can play.

  • Wow! Fantastic!

  • These guys are so freaking good. Love it. But I think the real grand piano has such a better sound than that CP-70 come on make it real compared to what.

  • Lol spill theme

  • Eddie was an incredible musician who had an hilariously dry, understated wit. They'll never be another. And God Bless Les,who was one of the first real jazz musicians I ever heard!

  • It's easier to not count. This is not a clap along song except on every beat.

  • Most of the white ladies clap on the 1 and 3. They are born like that all over the

world and use to drive me crazy. I married my singer, used to sing with Platters,

I am European, but we used to laugh that not even Wane Newton would do it.

    dankeschoen

  • @mrezabek1 that's funny! thank u have a JAZZY DAY

  • we've all just been involved in car crashes the length and breadth of our great country and everywhere, but whoever you are we salute you Lulu!

  • Classic Blues!!

  • she was clapping right on point. right where the cymbals hit.

  • Thumbs up if the film Casino brought you here? It happened to me.

  • SO glad that Doonesbury linked to this - what a killer pair of greats - a real treat to hear this again. Makes me want to go dig thru my many shelves of vinyl to relive some Eddie Harris and the like.

  • Have an LP with Ellington, Sweets Edison, Johnny Hodges and Les McCann on guitar! An LP of blues. One of my top 5 recording of all time. Anybody know of another McCann recording playing guitar ?

  • Had this vinyl in 75, just the best. Love when they explode at 1: 45. Classic stuff.

  • I was 16, or 17 and loved this. Of course my Father was a musician. (Played with Wes) Advantage! Lets try to help our President and this Nation. It's a mess.

  • Man if you can sit and listen to this without your foot tappin' you are most likely dis"funk"tional. Been listening to this dude do this tune for years and it always great.

    Gotta love it.

  • Simply Perfect. 6 totally moronic arseholes so thick they thought the thumbs down button meant 'dis I like'

  • fuck me, this song is the real shit, and NOBODY plays it like these guys.

  • How could anyone click "dont like" This world is full of weirdos amazing music and people!!!!

  • How could anyone click "dont like" This world is full of weirdos

  • Don't get no better than this!

  • Written by Eugene (Gene) McDaniels who also wrote Feel Like Makin' Love which was sung by Roberta Flack and countless others.

  • THANK YOU!!!!!

  • Does anybody have Eddie Harris' The Last Concert, with the WDR Big Band?

  • I love this video. That conga player is off the chain.

  • Never heard Eddie this good! Except maybe on his Kathleen's theme recording in Switzerland . . . .

  • Try To Make It Real......Compared To What

  • president got his war, he don't even know what it for....

    Some things never change...

  • What it is !!!

  • Thanks for posting. This was one of my favorites back in college days! I was luck to have seen Eddie at Chicago's The Jazz Showcase just before he passed. Amazing!!! And Les McCann is such an incredible SWINGER!!!

  • Figures the white lady at 2:17 is clapping on the 1 and 3!

This is just AWESOME!! Love Eddie Harris backup vocal part!

  • she's just trying to make it real -- but, compared to what, exactly? :)

  • I can't even clap on the 1 and 3 unless I concentrate real hard! Guess I just revert back to being my self.

  • @railcar123

white people just don't get it sometimes

  • @railcar123 that's hilarious! I noticed the same thing. Let's give her the benefit of the doubt and blame it on the person who edited the video. He purposely moved her in the edit process, over to the left a bit so it looked like she clapped on 1 & 3.

  • @railcar123 She's reggaefying the fusion.

  • @railcar123 Maybe she's feelin' it on the 1. Anyway, she's enjoying herself!

(Actually, if you look at old rock & roll videos from the early 60s, white folks routinely clapped on 1 and 3. It only changed during the late 60s.)

  • @railcar123 That could be a bad edit, too.

  • Great song/vid, thanks for posting! For any Lost fans out there, there's a scene in season two with John Locke listening to this jam while riding an exercise bike. :-)

  • Hi Friend.. I was just listening to Millie Jacksons "The Lies That We Live" and I thought I would checkour your channel. I love this video. Thanks for posting. Hope all is well. "The Juke Joint"

  • Hmmm, there used to be a much older version of this on here with video but I can't find it now. This is good too though!

  • Fantastic! thanks for posting this. Les is amazing doing Gene McDaniels anti-establishment song Compared to What! Nobody's heart shines through as strongly as Les McCann's !!!! Wow!

  • Yes! 2:27 - 2:20 Dancing white grandma! I would love to see this turned into an animated gif...anyone know how to do that?

  • I remember when this first hit from the jazz festival...thought I died and went to heaven. Thanks for the great memories!

  • There's nothing like the original version,

but Roberta Flack's vocals on "Quiet Fire"

    her 1971 LP were superb.

  • WONDERFUL!!!!....First view of Mr Harris on screen......Thanks Bobjazz.

  • Wicked, one of the classics, US Politicians didn't like it at the time, can't think why? ;-)

  • david amram had a song called a message for the politicions of the world...dont call us well call you...

  • Les and I were neighbors for over 12 years and played basketball together many times.

    The man is a legend!

  • I won a photo contest taken with a photo of Les in a caftan playing basketball...I love the daylights out of Les. What an all around wonderful man!

  • Love you Les! You said it best!

  • Eddie Harris speaking around minute 7-8 is hysterical!

  • What year is this? Love this damn song.

  • I could never get tired of this song!

  • bravo!

  • Swiss Movement, baby!

  • My Dad, R.I.P., brought this LP home to me when I was in high school. I always thought it was one of THE baddest jazz songs ever!! Incredible!!

  • Jill G. turned me on to these guys in the early 1980's. Saw Les in 1985 in KCMO. They do not make them like they use to. GOD BLESS and Thank You for the great vibe.

    A FAN!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Like truenorthcompass, I was also in my first year of college when the "Swiss Movement" album came out. We used to listen to it every day! Eddie Harris is gone now, but he left a lot of great music for us to listen to. For any saxophonists out there, you should check out his sax method book! Eddie also recorded a comedy record!! Of course, Les McCann is one of the all time greats!

  • I was a freshman in college in 1970 when I first heard this....Awesome song and vocal

  • Awsome version and others to be heard on the best album ever: Swiss Movement recorded live at Montreux in 69... Kaftan is :-)

  • I've never heard of these guys ever before! What the heck..... have I been missing out on life?

  • Compared to Nothin else, these 2 (and this band) bring it. LOve <ove Love...and So wonderful to hear the 'voice' of Eddie Harris. Funny stuff. And as an 'intense listener' musician, I know exAcly what Eddie is talkin about. I love these guys. What chops...LoVin IT..Sharin it. Can I hear you say?

  • Wow. One of Eddies greatest moments.

Short time later i enjoied these two funky cats in Berlin at Quasimodo. They did us a hell of funkyjazz, a real orgy in rhythm.

These two beautiful guys could laugh about themselves. I miss them...

  • The Quasimodo! Played it loads of times! Is it still there?

    Bob

  • @JazzmanBerlin Les is still around.. lived in my apt. in Sherman Oaks, Calif.

  • @JazzmanBerlin Les McCann isn't quite dead yet...

  • @JazzmanBerlin You do not get any better than this boy!

  • ONe Of my all time heroes. The greatest man. Funky, soulful, honest...bad.

  • I wouldn't be too hard on the old lady. This song has such a strong 1 & 3 beat it kind of lends itself to clapping there.

  • old lady clapping on one and three... hahaha

    good stuff though.

  • I just went to heaven. We were teens and my buddy said I want you to hear a record of my dads. Of course Les Mcann and Eddie Harris.I fell in love with Les Mcann. I got three cds by him but my fav is Live At Montreux. This was fun. Peace!!!

  • Ah, Live at the Montreux,,,that album turned me on to jazz, it's a classic, and I highly recommend everyone giving it a listen!

  • Same thing to me!

  • Love Les' chords at the end. The growling trumpet player at the end of the Swiss Movement version was good.

  • This is real today.. In this fast paced world when every one is moving so fast.. going where.. We are all headed to the grave, some faster than others with our destructive habits.. I simply wish to live my life on my own terms.. And Compared to what is my mantra..

  • I wish I had seen Eddie Harris live those people who did are so luckly, Love the way he sings threw the mike attached to his sax just cool the way he does it. R.I.P Eddie Harris will keep on listening and discovering your music

  • such a good one! and I loved eddie's monologue. very fun.

  • This song so rocks - what's with the audience?

  • They don't have no vibe that's what is wrong something that cannot be taught either you have it or you don't and they did not for whatever reason they love him though.

  • Love the white people clapping off the beat.

Eddie is one of my favorites of all time - true genius. Anyone know who the conga player is? He's excellent.

  • Yes, they come from a very different musical tradition...

But they're happy and smiling and loving the music! :)

  • Awesome video. I have show envy. Where was i when this was playin' ? We lost a real treasure when Eddie passed.
