Songs like this come from when you are in the zone...i've never heard another dave song that has this vibe or even style of play. I have made songs that when done i say where the F&*K did that just come from. I think this is one where we said oh sh^t for sure
@headstock48 ha!.. it took me forever but I finally got it figured out! my guitar instructor told me its all about how you hold the pick... I was coming straight down on the strings with the pick but, if hold it at an angle it, your speed will increase. Holding the pick at an angle means, rather than facing the point of the pick directly at the guitar, face it towards the neck of the guitar and use more the side, (wide part) of the pick.
Its nice to see an underground artist like this get a shot. Its a shame that musicians like this don't get a chance but I guess thats the way the world works.
I love how raw this video is. Solo, small "stage", emotionless crowd (sigh), yet he still performs with the same talent and intensity of an entire band. It's kind of funny actually if you look at this and then watch a live show a decade later and see how large and crazy the crowd is. I hope these people appreciated what they witnessed
Have you ever noticed how all the comments that are supposed to tell rude people not to be rude, seems to shift your focus from the music, to that people respond to rude people? :)
I think it's better to just don't comment it. The reward for stupidity should never be attention. So this post I'm writing right now unfortunately making you notice and focus on complain posts.
@lala79568 I never get the comment he likes himself too much. I'm sure if you follow the band it's quite the contrary actually. If you're basing it solely on the fact the band's name is Dave Matthews Band then you don't know everything. The band really never had a name to begin with, when someone needed to know what the band was called the sax player Roi Moore just spontaneously named it after the lead singer. So I suppose Steve Miller and Zac Brown likes themselves too much as well.
@lala79568 You are definitely entitled to your opinion, and if you think he sounds like a bird, then that's cool. However, Dave Matthews is not full of himself. All you have to do is watch him being interviewed and listen to him talk at his concerts, and you know right away that this is a guy who, miraculously, hasn't let fame go to his head. It's not really an opinion, it's a fact.
I find it funny you have removed your previous comment where you did make a misprint and I kindly asked you if this was an earlier recording you knew about.
I came to this page to enjoy myself, not to be written to with so much anger.
This is a Dave Matthews song, rudeness and immaturity is unwelcome here I am sure.
Dave is a bit under rated as a guitar player yet we guitarists in the world realise all too well that he is a fine player and extremely talented compositionally and in guitar mechanics.
This song is so poignant and from what I was told it is about his sister who was killed by her husband who then shot himself. Dave is a deep guy with so much pure expression through his music.
how does he smile playing this song? it would be so much more badass if he kept a solemn straight face. love this song though. if you aren't high, and you're listening to it, you should be. get on that.
The Stone is not on the first album, was this an early filmed live version?? I don't see anything telling me what year he performed this but would love to know :)
Seen a lot of dave. That was incredible. I can play the song note for note. But trying to sing that while playing is damn near an impossibility. Dave is my hero.
@DMBVR4 R u sure that's just coffee or water in that bottle ? Come on now, this is Dave! He's probably boozing half the time there, and more power to him!
@rocky1399 Doesn't look like a cup of coffee. It's shaped kind of like a package of saltines. I have seen hand driers at Guitar Center that look like long rectangular sponges. But, I don't know for sure what it is.
I am a HUGE Dave Matthews fan, and this is his most impressive song for sure, i have spent nearly two weeks just to get the guitar part down, and i still cant sing the lyrics too it, this guy is amazing
Holy smokes. That is amazing and he just has touched so many. The lyrics are always so deep and affect the inner soul. I truly like when he is alone and acoustic. I love this video!
Fantastic. I always thought the Charlie Rose performance was the best version of this, but this is amazing. Chills down my spine when he transitioned to Fools Rush In.
The wife of Thoth, Sifix, the lunar goddess, holds a pole with five rays or the five-pointed star, symbol of man, the Microcosm, in distinction from the Septenary Macrocosm. As in all theogonies a goddess precedes a god, on the principle most likely that the chick can hardly precede its egg, in Chaldea the moon was held as older and more venerable than the Sun, because, as they said, darkness precedes light at every periodical rebirth (or "creation") of the universe.
The crescent is not - as proven by many writers - an ensign of the Turks, but was adopted by Christians for their symbol before the Mahommedans. For ages the crescent was the emblem of the Chaldean Astarte, the Egyptian Isis, and the Greek Diana, all of them Queens of Heaven, and finally became the emblem of Mary the Virgin. "The Greek Christian Empire of Constantinople held it as their palladium.

Your immaturity is sad.
Fellow Dave Matthews fans are usually here for a good time and not to read rude comments from uneducated listeners.
I asked you a simple question and I asked it kindly, I'm sorry that you have so much anger inside.
