  • upright rows will fuck you up.

  • @liamrokocoko that's not terribly definitive. don't you want ppl to know what exactly you're trying to tell them? they'll fuck you up, how?

  • instructional fitness is great keep it up you leather skin roided out weirdo

  • Chris Cornell

  • He only lifted it half way ??

  • terrible form.

  • look at the model his face is as if he is picking up 1000lbs/kg :p (*-*)---->> (x_x)

  • do some vids with the max weight they can do ffs that cunt could easily do 50kgs so why is he doin 15??

  • @hullukyrpa Because this is an instruction video, not show off video. You want to emphasis on form, not weights.

  • @clawbytes well as if ya can use the same form as these videos with proper weight fukkwit

  • @hullukyrpa There's no such thing as proper weight, dimwit. Different people have different starting points. And if you had any common knowledge, making videos requires multiple takes, so less weights insures safer precautions. You sound like an egotistic teen who's just stepped into the gym and criticize everyone around you.

  • 50kg upright rows yeah i just stepped in the gym u fat fukkin cunt now stfu n gtfo

  • @hullukyrpa Yeah, and I lift 2000 kg. And make me.Retard.

  • yo sergio martinez

  • Euhm.. Doesn't the movement stop at the clavicles?

  • EZ Curl bar is great

  • I lift the EZ bar all the way up to my chin but with doing it to where the guy put it (I would go inbetween chin & where he left it) as it allows you to add more weight & less strain on your wrists. You just gotta do it till you feel the traps working & contracting

  • your supposed to go up to your chin with the easy curl bar

  • @LeftAstray I agree especially if your using the EZ bar bring it to the chin

  • Thank you guy that was very helpful

  • Anyone else notice that the guy showing how it's done had a bit of a moment when the instructor said how high it should be going before getting his last 2 reps right?

  • @PaDGuitars Haha! Hilarious. :-D

  • off subject joe...badass forearm vascularity!!

  • IT"S RICHARD GRIECO FROM 21 JUMP STREET MAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!

  • I'm pretty sure you're supposed to go higher...

  • @wade929 same here

  • The correct way to perform the exercise, huh??? Why is the "personal trainer" not telling the "model" to use a full range of motion?? The bar should be brought right up underneath the chin, not halfway up the chest. And the model's grip when he uses the straight bar is almost 2 feet too wide. Wow.

  • @DelDrew thats not necessarily true. I personally do take it right under my chin. But my friend (who is twice the size of me) has like many people, a different shoulder structure. It causes a painful pinching if he holds it too narrow, and brings it too high. So its not necessarily wrong.... just differemt.

  • The guy on the left, Chris Cornell has a brother?

  • Slightly wrong form. He should bring the bar up higher for the full repetition. Elbows must go above ears.

  • rofl when i looked at the thumbnail, it looked like Pauly D on the left looking down. haha

  • I acually thought this movement targeted the deltoids aswell..

  • TONENING UP IS BS!!!!

  • @six80ususus Exactly you cant tone a muscle

  • Hi, where can i buy those punching bags?

  • "higher reps= tone" I'm so sick of hearing this. It's simply not true.

  • @mi1ooo98 Prove it otherwise, bodybuilders and women who frequent the gym alike have proven this time and time again for the past half-century.

  • Wen' doing close/narrow grip Upright Rows with an EZ Bar, where should da top of da movement be wen' targeting da Traps? Clavicle or "Mid-Chest" (as mentioned in da vid)? Quite a gd demonstration, and excellent instruction by da way still.

  • @Dna12rex

Your somment wa spainful to read - be an adult and write 'the' corretly, retard. It's only one extra goddamn letter! 'Da'! Jesus H. Christ.

  • @bryanschmyan82 My "somment" yeah u clown? How 'bout I'm 18, so I'm a young adult, and still in my teens, and I can talk how DA fuck I want u dickhead. 'bout "retard". Don't read my fuckin' comment then innit, 'cause it weren't deh for u 2 answer anyway.

  • @Dna12rex

Laughing my ass off at you. You are not 'talking' how you want, you are writing - you clearly know how to write, so why the ridiculous affectation of pretending to speak like you are from a ghetto. LOL. What a complete and utter retard.

  • Thanks Instructional Fitness for these amazing tips, specially those about not exceeding weight and avoiding injuries, good job!

  • Should he be tilting his head back like that?

  • wonderful video

  • I stopped taking this video seriously the second he mentioned "toning" ...

  • @BennekeVN Do these Hit all three heads equally?

  • @lordvoldemort578 No , they focus more on the lateral deltoid , there isn't one exercise that's equally good for all three heads. a combination of push and pull exercises (an even amount) should be enough to give your shoulders an all-round workout. nothing hitting them with tons of isolations.

For example Bench press , DB rows are enough , perhaps with these barbell upr. rows , but it's not needed imo.

Bench would focus on the anterior , DB rows on the posterior and this on the lateral.

  • @BennekeVN Dude that doesnt make sense -stop being a smartass douche

  • @comicdweebify You Cannot "tone" or "shape" a muscle that's why.. if you want more definition , you're going to need a lower body-fat percentage , so your muscles are more visible.

So i'll repeat myself... You cannot tone or shape a muscle , you can only make it bigger as a whole not "certain" parts which "shaping and toning" suggests.

  • @BennekeVN Well, I saw a thing with lenny kravitz on vh1 like 7 years ago and he said he didn't start getting that cool perfectly outlined chest until he met with a trainer that had him do shaping exercises that isolated certain areas...

  • @BennekeVN I stopped taking you seriously the second I saw you write "I stopped taking. . .".

  • @BennekeVN Besides, toning simply means making your muscles stronger and firmer. So yes, you can tone your muscles. Now go back to bed and read a book.

  • @BennekeVN i hope you don't go through the rest of your life utilizing that same logic.

  • @BennekeVN lol, I also stopped watching exactly at this point and then I scrolled down and saw your comment

  • "iam a baaaad motherfucker"

  • i'm trying to add mass to my side delts. Does anyone know from experience if this exercise helps the side delts if done with a wide grip??

  • @msmithstud find a cable machine and make the pivot in the middle then grab a handle with the the opposit e hand. Do sort of ''ripping my shirt off movements'' like opposite to flyes. Make sure you do proper form which is until your arms are 180 degrees. If you want mass, do heavier weights, for definition and being leaner do more reps lower weight.

  • @bigbawsdogg appreciate the info. I've seen the technique you mentioned done before just never tried it. I've always favored the upright row when it comes to shoulders. But i know that alone won't do the job

  • @msmithstud Yes. It does.

  • @WildlifeSeriaLKiller upright rows is very effective in building shoulders? if so, which part(S)?

  • Holy sh*t. Ross Geller got jacked.

  • Show em Blue Steel.... While doing upright rows!

  • You guys are so stupid,

that guy's probably been working out before doing this video... that's why he's at a gym.

Try barbell rowing a low amount of weight for a high amount of reps after doing a full body workout. If you've had a proper workout you should be in as much pain as that guy.

  • Why did they get Derrick Zoolander to do Upright rows?

  • fukkn weak ass guy ..he lifts with no intensity...take yo ass home

  • what what what syndrome?

  • @fasy16 (CPS) carpal tunnel syndrome

  • WTF how can he even say "Tone up" "build mass" such an experienced builder like him,, muscles do either grow bigger or not, you can not shapw the muscle ... aaaah

  • funny how he lifts 5 pounds and makes a face as if it weights 100 xD

  • @drawmaster77 looks like 20 lb, plus the bar

  • the ez bar has close grip and wide grip on, why use the straight bar ?

  • wtf?? is this guy on crack??

  • From 0:08 - 0:14 that model guy was giving the Blue Steel Zoolander look, lol.

  • @totaljett LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLL,, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA..

  • @totaljett You sure that's not Magnum?

  • @totaljett nerd.

  • @totaljett I actually Lol'd.

  • your supposed to put your elbows above shoulder level..

  • the lifter reminds me of a buffer version of jimmy fallon

  • @justingrover You hit the nail right on the head with that one

  • @justingrover I thought the same thing

  • i think that weight is too heavy for him

  • why dont they (for instructional purposes) use lighter weights so the chissled model doesnt look like hes straining

  • Thanks a bunch :)) I hope your work out videos help me for my body toning :)

  • isn't this dangerous for your shoulders??

  • go on the right uses steroids.

  • High reps for toning - sigh..

  • well higher reps is for endurance, and I hope that's what he means haha

  • @Tirius9393 That's not what he says though is it! Whenever I hear someone talking about light weights for toning in the gym I always correct them cause it's such a load of crap :)! If you want to tone up, lose 2 stone, that'll help a lot more than messing about with a 5kg dumbell xD

Interestingly I've never done these with a wide grip for your delts, going to give that a go today I think!

  • I think hes doing it the wrong way. I do it right when it reaches my chin

  • Thanks for a very good demo .

  • is this guy serious ??

  • Wow, lots of misinformation in this video.

    1. The upright row is primarily a lateral deltoid exercise.

    2. There is no such thing as "toning".

  • I find that building traps is easy....(shrugs with at least 35kg dumbbells in each hand & your traps will start to freak out in 2 months).

But building width on lateral delts is harder than a muthaf*cker!

I look like a narrow bitch & I need more width, so I guess wide grip uprights/lateral raises & shoulder presses are the way to go.....

Good form & Pain = PROGRESS!!!

  • Chris Cornell?

  • You forgot the steroids

  • Wide grip has realy beefed up my side delts. Its the best F shit, Side raises and other shit just burn calories. This is a multijoint power movement.

  • why is it that I see guys who think they are experts comment and watch these videos wtf? losers

  • It just wouldn't be a workout video if the guys arms weren't bigger than his legs.

  • Did you seriously just imply that high-rep training "tones" muscles? The broscience is strong with this one. Training in a high rep-range builds endurance, not "tone," which is a matter of leanness. Also, upright rows DO work the delts.

  • @TriggerTwin This.

  • This dude knows his stuff, and explains it very clearly, great instructor, thanks.

  • @budfr No he doesn't.

  • upright rows with a straight bar are bad for your wrists as it puts alot of stress on the carpals

  • @JKDspirit True..its a "wrist breaker".

  • Ive been working out non stop for just over a month now...and i will make sure i dont put too much on my chest and lats, i dont wanna look like these other guys who look like they take steroids haha

  • @JKDspirit uve been working out for just over a month and ur worried about looking like guys on roids? i envy you!!

  • tone your anal cavity

  • You're a fucking retard lift it to you're chin you weak bitch.

  • @Atli418 HAHAHAHA!

  • tone up? is he trolling?

  • this model sucks! hes terrible

  • You have no idea dude...that's all i have to say.

  • this guys an idiot. first off different rep ranges don't make you tone or bulk. and secondly the upright row whatever grip you use puts pretty much all of the stress on the deltoids and traps.

  • @bigbobabc123 yeah this guy is full of shit.

  • dave givin em blue steel

  • this is better than plain old shoulder shrugs.

  • Dave is the absolute master of 'Blue Steel'

  • Dave is always in a bad mood... lol

  • @fittslickarna

The problem is the tendon will gradually become worn down and damaged. You may not even know you have a problem until one day the tendon snaps!

    Instead do:

    Dumbell Presses

    Military Presses

    Front Dumbbell Raise

    Write me at dgittinger@alamo.edu

  • @dgitting Alright, I see. Well, thanks for sharing anyways.

  • Wtf is this? It doesn't only train your traps, it train the delts aswell, and you should actually pull it up higher then the guy does, much better effect.

  • is it bad to raise the bar up to about chin lvl?

  • @Nizm0350z no not at all as long as your elbows are above your wrists.

  • @afterthefact15 thats what i thought, just wondering why they weren't going all the way up in the vid.

  • @Nizm0350z not sure maybe just basic movement demonstration. i was kind of suprised he said that 6-8 inch grip doesn't work the side and front delts like ive been told and felt, hmmmm.

  • @afterthefact15 he's wrong. it works your delts.

  • @ryazbeck Your Wrong, Closer Grip Works your trapezius muscle.

    Wider Grip works your Deltoids.

  • I keep hearing upright rows are bad for your shoulders in the long run, any truth to this?

  • @DahStoryTella

It is. Messes up your shoulder rotator cuffs. But you can fix it doing lghter weights.

  • Dave, Blue Steel?

  • @JJ30301 What is your main goal? I do 3 sets of 8 reps, the 8th rep is very hard, but I still can maintain a good posture. This adds size and strength, if you want to tone then do 3 sets of 15 reps.

  • NEED THAT BAR CLOSER TO BODY!

  • how high should i bring the bar up? chin? pecs?

  • @rubixcubeluken chest

  • @rubixcubeluken i usually bring it to just about up to my nipples or a little bit above at a nice steady speed, real nice feeling.

  • don't like upright rows

  • This exercise leads to more shoulder injuries than any other exercise

  • weights a little to heavy for that guy he keeps making faces???!!!!

  • Thats how you should be lifting :)

  • oooo i c

  • @Igotmyvanson20 Hes exaderating...Hes way bigger than me and i upright row 150...He is dffinataally exagerating..

  • @Igotmyvanson20 Steroids. I'm sure both of these guys are not very strong.

  • good now i can do these

  • great!

  • your lats are below your armpits...

  • @burke7743 He says Traps, not lats

  • @burke7743 nope teres minor and major are located there

  • Your traps are NOT below your armpits. Traps are the triangular shaped muscles at the base of your neck. Lats, or Latissimus Dorsi, are the muscles below your armpits on either side of the rib cage.

  • Traps do go below your armpits. They are not triangle shaped, they are shaped like a diamond.

  • i m sorry man , but the trapezius muscle doesn't go below the armpit. I dont know what anatomy book you're looking at, and yes they re shaped like a diamond, but a diamond is also two triangles put together.

  • I am sorry. I took kinesiology for a year so I guess I don't know what I'm talking about. Sarcasm if you haven't detected. If you look at any picture the bottom of it attaches to the T3 vertebrae, well below the armpit. I just realized there might have been confusion, as you might have thought I was literally saying it goes in the armpit. I was just saying that if you look at it from the back, it's long enough that it goes below it. But to clarify about shapes, a triangle is not a diamond.

  • itsahatch, i see what you mean now, but the way you said it in your previous post was very misleading, so i think a correction was warranted. Finally, i can tell you were annoyed by my post but, dude, put 2 triangles together, and what do you get? a diamond, that s all i m saying.

  • Ya man I get like that sometimes, my apologies. I re-read what I wrote and ya it was misleading.

  • @butterkup12 .......i think you your the dumbass..

  • Actually he's half right, they do go below your armpits, they're just not all below.

  • i thaught these worked out ur delts.

  • It does too! But the focus changes depending on your grip.

  • @OSBURNnanu same thing I thought. Doesn't anyone know the proper placement of your wrists/grip? It looks like he has them on the arch of the EZ bar.

  • @OSBURNnanu They work the delts also

  • @OSBURNnanu close grip do the traps more and the wide grip does the shoulders more

  • @dueds ohhh

  • @OSBURNnanu They do work your anterior deltiods to a certain extent. Its mainly traps though. If you want to isolate your traps i would just reccommend barbell shrugs.

  • @OSBURNnanu they do ahah and your bicepts

  • @OSBURNnanu Depends on the width of your grip.
