  • Now this is the Heart of Country music .

  • it doesn't happen often we get someone of his talent around here but I got to see him play in St John New Brunswick a couple of years ago. I took my mother with me and it was one of the first times we spent any great deal of time together since i was around 15 years old that we didn't argue about anything

  • Charley Pride has always been one of my favorites and often wondered why his carreer seemed short lived?

  • Ooh, this is a treasure! And that's Kenny Vaughan on electric guitar. He's fantastic! Toured with Lucinda Williams.

  • one of my all time favorites, i grew up listening to this

  • I actually woke up to this song, hearing it for the first time ever, and I can't think of a way I'd rather wake up. My grandma decided to play his music around the house this morning, and I've never been happier to wake up, and it's wierd, because I don't usually listen to this type of music... Well that's going to change, Charlie Pride is amazing! :)

  • my mom and dad always played this type of music so grew up hearing it.

  • I was 4 when i first went to see him he gave me a kiss on the cheek and a signed t-shirt, and he mentioned my name on stage :). I lost the t-shirt when i moved but i still have the photograph of him kissing my cheek.♥ I'm only 13 now and as soon as he comes back to where I live I will go see him in concert! I love Charlie!

  • I'm a native filipino and we love so much old songs,,,country songs....awsome...

  • Thank you for posting this video, it is great to be able to listen to this time and time again.

  • I have long felt that the two Charlies--Rich and Pride--were among the best that Country had to offer. I am glad that one of them is still with us.

  • LMAO my inlaws told me a story about them drinking with Charlie Pride before he became famous, wondering today if its true or a story!!

  • I love this song soo much, i think of my grandfather when i hear ole Charlie, I use to spend the night with the grandparents and i remember vividly like it was yesterday, i remember hearing the ole guy belting this tune while cooking his breakfast! love that ole man!!!

  • The guy's a legend - what a great song.

  • that man has soul....

  • that is a impressive jacket mr pride is wearing.

  • My aunt loved Charlie Pride. She went to Branson Missouri to watch him. Glad she got that chance. We played his music at her funreal. RIP Aunt Geneva.

  • showing love from new zealand..

  • great singer

  • Another #1 hit for Charley Pride on the Country & Western charts. This was the 220th #1 C&W song of the Rock Era. It also hit #1 on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks charts, #2 on Canadian Adult Contemporary charts, #7 on the Adult Contemporary charts, #21 on the Top 40 charts, and #31 on the Canadian Singles charts. Charley Pride's biggest hit.

  • LOVE THIS!

  • Seen him in concert last night with Neal McCoy and he was just as awesome as ever.

  • Country Music when it was REAL Country

  • One of my favorite Charlie Pride songs is "I'm Just Me." However, I can't forget his signature song, and it's sung just fine right here, by the master himself, Charley Pride. It's easy to see why he was Country Music's first African American superstar. He's just that good!

  • this is music

  • Charley pride is simply the best!!!

  • Super job Charlie!!!!!!!

  • Can anyone name one song that he sang that is bad.So far all of the songs posted of his on Youtube are great.

  • Charley Pride is a very good, down to earth person. I had the pleasure of attending a small private get-together once following a show in Meridian, MS in the late '70s. He was simply one of the guys and preferred to not have special treatment or attention when off stage. On stage, he sort of lost track of the show and was speaking to the audience from his heart - then he apologized and got back to his music. He teared up and said it was good to be back home again.

    Real to the core!

  • Only getting better with age.

  • oh.. my mom and aunt were so happy to see you in person and to be able to just be close to you, we are from northern manitoba, sadly since the last time my auntie Ida has moved on, but my mom and I contine to enjoy your music daily . thanks so much

  • Awesome,This is what country is supposed to sound like.

  • Folks, it don't git no better than this!

  • im only thirteen but i love charlie pride i love this old country stuff like bob wills, merl haggard, gene autry, willie nelson etc.

  • he did a christmas show with a few other singers including randy travis last december at cooks childrens medical center in fort worth.... none of the children really knew who he was but he raised the spirits of those sick children one being my son god bless him for that

  • I had the good fortune to shake Mr. Pride's hand in Las Vegas many years ago. Something I will remember for the rest of my life.

  • Did you know that when Charlie Pride first started out that they didn't publish his face because he was black? After his success, the studios had no choice but to gamble his fame would carry him through as a legitimate country star and win over the idiot racist folks. Love ya Charlie!!!

  • I knew who he was and heard all his songs and bought all his albums before I ever knew who the Beatles were

  • hahahaha look how the faggot came prancing across the stage at 0:20 charlie pride YOU ROCK!!!

  • He and his wife just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.in 1997 he had a tumor removed from his right vocal cords. It was not cancerous. After that he did a surprise concert at the Arkansas State House and the governor joined him in doing some of his classic songs.

  • omg do you hear this??? just fucking amazing

  • Have loved this song since the first time I heard it many years ago. What the heck ever happened to Charlie???? As noliberals123 said, I do the same. Being from Minnesota, I was about 2 minutes ahead on the 35 bridge collapse a few years ago and believe that Kissing My Angel(s) in the morning kept me ahead of schedule and my normal pokeyness.

  • I would have been about 12 or so when this came out.I have taken Charlies' advice for 26 years now.Love you angel Susie!

  • This song has one of the best intro.I listen to all of his songs here on Youtube and all are great.

  • to all future singers.do not do a remake version of this song. This version by Charlie is just fine the way it is.

  • Nice ascot!

  • He put out a gospel album and let me tell you it is fantastic. If you buy the CD,check out the song Did You Think To Pray?It is fantastic.

  • Bless you for the memories Mr. Pride!

  • sounds like my Lady, my wife, my Life

  • This is something you don't see everyday; An African-American Country singer. Nice to see.

  • Thank you. I didn't know there was a few. I only heard of Charley Pride. I didn't know that Darius Rucker decided to sing country music.

  • Is Charley Pride the only black singer in country?

  • @dclimbo No, there's O.B. McClinton, Cleve Francis, Rissi Palmer(Black Female Country Singer), Big Al Downing, And there's Darius Rucker (formerly Lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish)

  • @dclimbo Oh yeah, here's another black female country singer. Miko Marks.

  • I am glad to say that I saw him perform live in Tasmania a few years ago - he was old, but very entertaining, with a good voice, and great songs!

  • black dont crack @allysonalea

  • Charley Pride was born (march 18, 1938) today he's 73.

  • when was this video made? he doesn't look that old but he's 83 now and he still doesn't look old and i dont think he has had botox

  • The Rocks playing him in a biopic! :O

  • Wow. I cannot believe there is actually, an African American country singer! He was mentioned on the T.V. show Martin, but i didn't know he was real!! Too sad.

  • this man can sing it up!!!

  • Due to prejudice against blacks, no picture of Charlie was ever circulated during the first two years of his singing career. Once his music became popular, they revealed that he was indeed black. Another interesting thing about him is that he was a professional baseball player in the Negro Leagues and in the minor leagues. He also had the dubious distinction of being traded along with another player to the Birmingham Black Barons for a team bus.

  • @hoosierdaddy3277

My mom loved him SO much......she was in the bedroom ironing when he appeared on TV the first time...she heard the song start, came running out.....and the expression on her face was priceless.....lol I'll never forget it. She didn't love him any less because of it, she was just so shocked, she'd had no idea!

  • This is a super video. Nice song. Thanks for putting it out there.

  • Charley Pride (born 1938) was country music's first African American star. For the past 25 years, Pride has been ranked among the top 15 best-selling recording artists of all time. During his career, he has had 36 number-one hit singles, and he has sold over 25 million albums. He has had 31 gold albums, 4 platinum albums, and 1 quadruple platinum album. Pride was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000, the highest honor a country musician can receive.

  • Marty's a bit of a tranny.

  • We killed Osama this morning!....someone should make a remake with that as the chorus

  • I can't believe that Dwayne The Rock Johnson is gonna be Charlie Pride in one of his future films.

  • @abinniss he would have to lose alot of weight to play him good, hes just to muscley lol

  • Charlie Pride 30 October 2010 sang this song and wore this same outfit. He still sings well. He even san I'll Fly Away with me at a Meet and Greet

  • Fantastic singer. This music never ages.

  • I wish country music still sounded like this. Charlie Pride was a baseball player before he was a country music artist.

  • no matter how hard he tries, "Hootie" will never earn the name The Chocolate Cowboy!! Charlie will allways be the one and only!!

  • The pride of country western music Charley Pride. Wish they would of recruited Eddie Stubbs to play fiddle on this song, sure can tell the difference, but still sounds great. My very first concert was Charley Pride way back in the early 70's. My mom won tickets from station KFOX on the Dick Haynes time slot, "Haynes at the Reins"!

  • Guarantee atleast 400,000 views of this song is from me!!!!

  • I met him after taking my Grandma to see him for her Mothers Day gift a few years ago and I just fell in love with his music and I don't listen to country music XD

  • Every time I wake up in the morning to go to work, I always kiss my wife and tell her that I love her. I do this even if I am mad at her. No one knows if they will come home-and I don't want my wife to wonder how I felt about her.

  • @noliberals123 ...That is one of the sweetest things I have ever heard from a man....good for you for sharing that.

  • @noliberals123 love this song this true country

  • @slothbro1 This song is a classic and if anyone calls themselves doing their own version is crazy.Charlie's version is the only one that is the best.

  • Now this is country!!

  • best black country singer ever 2nd best is durious rooker

  • @7667maverick Is it racist that I'm surprised he's black? wait, he is the original singer right? If he is he sounds way to white. That's racist isn't? Trust me I'm not trying to be it's just, Wow. I'm shutting up now.
