I think nintendo might've been going for a "native american" thing with Alder. His mane is like a feather headdress, he appears to have the same ethnicity, one of his pokemon is a bison, and he doesn't have a permanent home. He also talks a lot about harmony with pokemon, but that's a huge theme in pokemon in general. He also wears a very traditional outfit.

to all the people who think his theme doesnt have the badass music. Alder as a champion is VERY different from the other champions. He is not any champions who just sit there in their throne and let the player do all the work. This theme is supposed to show how strong of a person he is. He lost his beloved pokemon,almost lost hope when N beat him and he just wandered around searching for answers. But aftergame after seeing ur character this gave him new hope. This is the only battle i enjoyed!

@BattlzPKMon Considering you play through literally hundreds of battles to get to that point, I sincerely doubt in the entirety of the game that this was the ONLY battle you enjoyed. Otherwise you would never have beaten or even gotten to the endgame content (assuming you play games for fun). Think about what you're saying about the game if you say this is the only good battle. @chungosensei (spoilers) wait, what? you don't fight alder the first time through the league, you have to rematch the entire league before you can fight him. by this time, an epic theme would be kind of out of place, because you don't have to fight him at all; once you beat ghetsis, the game's basically beat.

In my opinion, Alder had too many pokemon with base stats under 500 to be too much of a challenge. His Volcarona probably swept some people but thats about the only one you have to worry about.

Having 4 pokemon with stat totals under 500 make them noticably easier to beat. Hence why Cynthia is so much tougher even though her pokemon are only 2 levels higher.

What I'M saying is that at similar levels the strength of a particular pokemon is heavily dependent on base stats. Some lower stat pokemon have their advantages, yes, but if you take them out of their element (i.e. Garchomp using agility while fighting against an Accelgor) then they are defeated very easily. I tend to 1 shot all of the ones you listed. continued....

@MrMorax94 Every pokemon has its strengths, but some of them are just not as good when used in high level play. Bug types are, generally, a great example of this. Great when starting out, pretty good mid-game, bad end game.

But I suppose having a team of your favorites is just as important as having a team that wins all the time. I'm in that niche where my favorites ARE the ones that win all the time >.>

@robokill387 IMO it is. Seriously, the actual games takes about 5 days to beat. Its REALLY easy. Pokemon isn't even good except for the competitive. Besides only little kids play it for the "friendship" or collecting. If you wanna play something fun, play Left 4 Dead or Mario. Pokemon's "campaign" is way too short. And its not as fun as competitive which is MULTIPLAYER the real reason for video games unless your a loner in a basement

But Super Mario Galaxy series, the 3d series, and the RPGS are all good. Even some sport series are good! The platformers have good music at least... Pokemon is an incredibly great game, but its not the ONLY game out there, and it WILL get boring which is alot of people quit it. The thing is competitive solves the boring issues, which make pokemon a great game

I had Pokerus 3 times before but Pokerus is MEANT for competiive battling. Shinies are a way to show off in competitive i guess...
