EU policies are so positive and right they must bypass democracy. But surely their marvellous wisdom should be put to vote in liberal Europe...NOT!
The EU is creating bureaucracies the sole function of which is to OPPOSE popular sentiment.
The elites of Europe require mass migration from the Third World and Islamic nations to change the face of Europe to what it should be. You only have to ask: why are these Muslims and third worlders fleeing their own nations?
What would sound fair is if the supposed African Union pulled their shit together and sorted out that shambles of a continent, flooding Europe with 3rd worlders is merely shifting one major problem from one continent to another, there's fairness, "progressiveness" and sheer bloody lunacy, you and your ridiculous statement fall under the latter.
The EU has no authority or right (which the elitists took upon them selves to create laws by an appointed unelected untouchable teflon commission). To import voters from anywhere, without the consent of the people of Europe within their own nations states is blatently undemocratic.
These elitists are taking Europe through a powder keg environment in which their own greedy negligence has and is created, which will end up destroying all Europe.
Dan seems to be speaking from UKIP's platform, I should like him there better, the torries are a waste of his eloquent breath! One of his own party leaders dragged him out of the chamber and scolded him in another video when he likened the EU to the third reich! See the vid.
Yes because it was a valid point. They make regulation and laws without even getting the opinion of the people they represent. They dis regarded THEIR OWN LAWS AND POLICY to get the Lisbon Treaty through. Fortunately for us Ireland had a referendum, but now having another one. Economic policy is fine, but deciding social policy over the WHOLE of europe is the biggest mistake there will ever be. It's ridiculous and I will move to Australia if it happens.
In regards to this gay Mitchell fellow's comments... sending "people like you" who are both sensible and honorable to Strasbourg can only build esteem for the party of Churchill.
The whole problem with the EU is that the aspirations should come from the people and be represented in actions of power by the executive. Instead it is top down, has little respect for the wishes of the people.I am glad Mr Hannan is spending time illustrating this.
I love that man..... but i didn't like that.... Churchill was the guy who proposed a United States of Europe.... he said if we were united there would be no ends to what we could achieve. That is what i believe.
bringmemybow, The larger the government, the more bureaucratic it becomes, and less responsive to its citizens. Government should be small and local, and we should support the right of national sovereignty.
to an extent... however daniel believes in no government interference, which is a very bad thing... re: recent economic downturn. his views are quite right wing and capitalistic, it would be a terrible choice for any European Nation.... but i do respect the man.
It was government interference, in the form of reckless fiscal and monetary policy (especially in the USA) that created the economic downturn. The banks' failing was the symptom, not the disease.
Hi, you are right it is an argument that cannot be won or lost on youtube comments. I do not claim to know everything. I am studying economics and at the moment the Austrian school is the one that makes most sense to me, although I am still learning.
All I would say to you is:
1) check out Peter Schiff's analysis (videos all over youtube);
2) google 'community reinvestment act';
3) read about how central banks around the world manipulate economies for short term goals.
Yes, Carter tried to throw a sop to his minority constituants, and force banks to loosen restrictions on credit to minority groups who applied for mortgages. Clinton "doubled down" on the practice, and when congressional republicans tried to add oversight to what they saw as a great risk, the race baiters and other democrats in congress ( led by Barney Frank in the house, and Chris Dodd in the senate), pooed the effort, and called the repub's racists....again! You can't be against the dems.lol
A lack of regulation? Please. The whole system suffered from incredible amounts of government manipulation.
Nobody let them self regulate. If they had, most of them would have gone bankrupt and new competent entities would have already stepped up to the plate.
But like you said to the other gentleman, those of you who see no limits to the "good" government can do will never see the light.
I love the way you say something so provocative and then, in the same breath, dismiss any attempts at forcing you to explain such an assertion.
But I shan't argue with you. You say things like "It was lack of govermnet regualtion which caused it....", a statement that is wrong on enough levels - both grammatical AND economic - to leave me in no doubt that you are uneducated.
the problem with youtube, is we don't get to meet face to face. presumably in the real world you wouldn't ask someone if they knew what the federal reserve was. I'm not a 7 year old.
And i'm not having an argument over the internet.
Sorry for starting it.... arguing with a screen, isn't my bag. sorry.
But the United States was not and is not, by design, a single nation but a federation of independent states, which is what Churchill was proposing. He believed that it was important for Europe to unite, but not to the point where the people lost their own national identities.
yes, that would be great.... the way the EU is going, the memeber states would be FAR more independent than those of the USA. I think that would be a brilliant idea, Churchill had a great vision. The EU has the motto, United through Diversity don't forget, and after the Lisbon treaty, and the streamlining of the whole process, we will be far more independent than any US state. What US state do you see on the UN security council???? any ??? NO!
you forget, that US stands for United States. meaning that Americans are represented internationally by the country itself. any state in the US that has any international interests are strictly business interests. Florida has no formal military or international sovereignty so why would it need or want a place on the security council? the post just comes off as international penis envy
I was responding to another comment. someone was implying EU memeber states were having thier sovereighnty eroded more than US states... which is a stupid comment.
No state in the US has ever had/neither wanted their own sovereignity as a nation. The EU project is merely an attempt to render the individual member states laws and borders meaningless. Daniel Hannan appears to be "a voice crying in the wilderness." I hope he is heard by his voters. For overreaching government is stifling our debate and limiting our freedoms even here in the U.S. I do not have a vote, but if I did. I would be calling for a referendum! Put it to a vote!
We need the Lisbon treaty... putting it to a vote in countries like Britain would mean it wouldn't get through... it is away of making the EU more accountable and less beurocratic, but people only hear what they want.
If the people do not want this form of government... how do you "impose" a democracy on the unwilling? Wouldn't that destroy the very concept of democracy? Also, Brittain doesn't seem to be alone. The Irish, Dutch, and French have all voted no in recent years as well. I'm beginning to think your ideology is limiting your objectivity to this EU project. Increasing the scope of the EU will not make less bureaucracy... government can only beget more government...
which is why Dan likened the way the EU went about this whole Lisbon Treaty like when the Reichstag signed the Enabling Act 1933. The EU are very close to becoming that annoying clause in business contracts "we reserve the right to change, edit and amend any of the rules above, as necessary, without prior consent or knowledge to the consumer". Basically 'we can do what we want and the public can't do shit'.
Look at 1:23, he just blows the guy next to him away, as he always does. I would be honored to sit next to Daniel Hannan and although I am American, Son of the Revolution, born and raised, but you Englishman are our brothers and if there was some way for us to reunite and beat this I would join in a heartbeat.
The dude is right, yes we are a part of a European Union, but we represent our own nation. France, Germany, Britain, Spain and all the others are all separate but accept that progress needs to happen collectively when surrounded by two super powers
collectivism kills innovation and makes it easier for the George Bushes and the Barack Obamas to flush massive money down the toilet.
When you see the US flail about in the next few years as the money runs out and the states try to secede, perhaps Europeans will think twice about centralizing power.
Unless you fully know your stuff and what youre talking about, trying to challenge Hannon is like a 5 year old arrogant kung fu student, trying to take on the master. Very foolish indeed!
I absolutely love this I to am anti-EU Conservative, and often I have Winston Churchill's "United States of Europe" thrown at me. One question though Mr Hannan, why was the man to your left at the beginning of the video thrusting his hips??
Dan has yet to be enlightened as to the glorious virtues of globalism, where a miniscule few will decide the fate of the world. Substitute enlightened with one of the following: Brainwashed Co-opted Indoctrinated Inculcated Instilled Conditioned Proselytized . . . . Provide your own
Hear hear, don't let them use Churchill to defend what he would see as a dismantling of British sovereignty. Don't forget he was a man fully committed to the integrity of the British empire.
That's absolute rubbish. I have no idea where people get this federalist idea but it's absurd! In America, the State governments have juristiction over more than 50% of laws already exercise more executive power than our national governmentss. In the EU, the EU Commision already makess 80% of laws and will soon be pushing it to 100%, that is not federalism, that's a single law for all. We could wish to be like the US now! Of course, I'd rather just scrap the god damn EU.
In the US, states SHOULD exercise more power than the federal government, but that is not true today. Furthermore, each individual citizen is sovereign and should enjoy rights that may not be abridged by the states or the federal government. We all know that this is no longer the case. Personal rights and liberties are a thing of the past.
Indeed, the federal government is creeping extensively, however, the lack of even the possibility of such federalism is written into the very treaties that form the European Union, my point was about the technicality. You should reinstate all your states independence though, much as Texas is rightly doing, it's not only pervasive, but highly illegal, at least you have that on your side, out loss of sovereignty is written into the laws we have no say in.
Even after some 230 years we still have many problems in the United States between the individual states and the federal government. With the variety of languages, cultures and ways of thinking within Europe, I imagine the EU will have far more problems than America has had.
I think Great Britain is wise to always maintain some individuality! It's much more difficult to regain freedoms than it is to give them up!
