  • Rex Reason! lol

  • It's sad that so many people only know this from the Mystery Science Theater 3000 movie. It's a really good science fiction movie, unlike many of the "B" pictures the show made fun of.

  • CALLING MAN FROM GLAD!

  • Where's an inter-rocitor when you need one ?

  • this is a fantastic classic sifi film!

  • I am Metaluna

  • It's a bad movie, but it's a "so bad it's good" movie. Many plot holes but you can forgive them for it's nostalgic charm.

  • the colors are so good...and that brain bat monster is just terrifying

  • The terrible effects are what make the movie so nostalgic

  • This movie is beautifully nostalgic for me for reasons no one would care about. But I've always wondered if a bunch of albino aliens with overgrown foreheads that nobody seemed to notice wasn't the inspiration for Ackroyd's coneheads.

  • wonder if it will be in 3D

  • MST3K: The Movie <3333

Actually, this movie wasn't terrible, so the fact that they put it in the MST movie is pretty weird...

  • This movie rocks! And it's in technicolor too!!! I hope it comes out this summer!

  • Cal, our hero, goes on a mind-binding journey across the universe–and returns utterly unchanged in any way. Cal’s most heroic act is to yell “Run, Ruth, run!” at one point. It’s fairly clear that both Rex Reason and Jeff Morrow thought THEY were the hero of the movie, the chemistry between Faith Domergue and Rex Reason was tepid at best

  • I still love to watch this film. Great special effects for it's time. And since it's by Universal, I've always felt the Metaluna Mutant should be classed as one of the "Universal Classic Monsters'. But alas, he is not!

  • One thing I love about 50's sci-fi trailers is how every single one claims its film to be "The Best Sci-Fi Movie... EVER!"

  • @ZimMan2 Oh yah! Each single of them! :-D

  • First Time i saw this movie was when Mystery Science Theater 3000 mocked it.

  • what people fail to realize is that we are visited daily,we are the Garbage Pale of the universe all the others dump their unwanted trash here hoping they will become world leaders Washington DC is the biggest dumping ground on the planet followed by Wall street

  • I saw this today and I enjoyed it. It had an intelligent plot for it's time and the special effects were pretty good. That and a man can only marvel at the beauty of Faith Domergue! Such a beautiful and talented actress, sad she didn't have as much success as she deserved.

  • @ChicagoMickey2 I agree! Faith Domerge was a dish! And so smart!

  • @Beamshipcaptain

I know! She was fluent in 4 languages talk about brains and beauty!!

  • I just got out of the tubes, man..

  • MST3K the Movie, anyone?

  • Your stupid minds! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

  • This Island Earth can be yours if the Price is Right!

  • It looks great, but even by the standards of 50's sci-fi movies---"War Of The Worlds","Forbidden Planet","The Time Machine",and so on---it's hardly a classic. The whole Zagon-Metaluna war was badly in need of some backstory. In fact, the film's entire third act feels like something cobbled together by screenwriters who weren't quite sure how to end it beyond the inclusion of an alien monster, the destruction of a planet, and our heroes returning home.

  • @ctdsnark You're not far wrong. I still love it though and have watched it thirty or forty times. I really ought to get out more I guess!

  • An alien diarrhea from outer space invading earth! (jingle)

  • RUTH!!

WHY, THIS MOVIE WAS... NOT REALLY THAT WONDERFUL!!

  • i have this stuff on 16mm film and i LOVE IT!

  • This may be a movie I saw when I was about five years old. I think I remember that car exploding and that man talking to the couple at 0:36, I could never remember the title.

  • Comment removed

  • One of the all time great sci-fi flicks. I'd sooner watch this than a CGI laden piece of shit from Spielberg.

  • looks really gay

  • I've loved this wonderful movie on TV since the early 1970s, and now on crystal-clear DVD, on a 50" panasonic Plasma.

  • this has a "mystic aura" about it.........

  • This is movie that was playing on TV when E.T. was boozing!

  • This looks insane! When is its release date?

  • @stevonz333 1954? lol.

  • i love the movie that makes fun of this i forget what its called but its funny as hell

  • @killurmom1 Mystery Science Theater 3000

  • @DeDaDoDu lol yea that was a funny ass movie man

  • I saw this movie, but in the most awesome way possible - MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 THE MOVIE!!!!!

  • @AdrianvsJak Oh god, most epic movie ever.

  • What year was that made

  • the ships look real because they are real models, not some CGI crap.

  • @ramblergarage Please tell us another joke.

  • trash forever "Zombies From Outer Space"

  • "What Kind of Sh**hole planet is this!\?"-Tom Servo

  • de la merde

  • A great movie, even if the ending is a little downbeat. Gorgeous to look at, and what it lacks in CGI it makes up for with today's rarest special effect - a literate script.

  • Sci fi Pow!

  • Has a more imaginative story than many a modern SciFi film.

  • I remember watching this on TV when I was a kid... it was pretty scary to watch then...I still will watch it..it's a favorite guilty pleasure of mine.. I love these old sci-fi movies...some of the were not only good but downright classic...others I recommend are "The War Of The Worlds", "The Time Machine", "When Worlds Collide" and "The Day The Earth Stood Still"

  • Normal view! Normal view! Nooormal vieeeew!

  • Still better than 'V'.

  • This was one of the great corny sci-fi movies from the fifties. Hokey, but oh soooooooooo much fun!!

  • i think that was a nice film.apart the 60´s rocked hard with all those stars and sci fi films

  • A film that should have been a lot better.

  • I have two claw hands and I am cripple. Yeah. Watch me run after this cute chick. Ha! Yeah. Ha! Come here you! Ha! Hum.

  • The interocitor was the prototype for the Personal computers of the late 1970s and 80s, and flat-screen TVs. Images on the interocitor don't register on film.

  • The brother of the guy who plays nuclear scientist Drl Cal Meacham (Resx Reason), Rhohdes Reason, was in the 1967 TOHO studios production: KING KONG ESCAPES. Love that Mecha-Kong!

  • Normal View!! Normal View! Normal View! Normal View!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A very good film of its time. Young people today will laugh at it, but that's because they live in the age of the computer where most any special effect is made possible, and budgets are routinely hitting 200 million dollars. Don't mock your parent's sci-fi films. They might take away your allowance.

  • Mike nelson and the bots did!

  • I like this, its true though, i laugh at it but strongly wish i could see it with a clean slate ^.^

  • Hi. I read the book from Raymond F. Jones when I was a teenager. This was one cause of being engieneer today. I wish a modern remake of the film.

  • @carsamcascru Don't you mean - Engineer

  • @Hypsan, cheesy acting or not, that Death Ray explosion is actually a pretty marvellous looking effect and I'd take it over some CG kitsch any day.

  • @Hypsan I resent that. Im 17 and i love these movies prefer them to the newones anyway. Special effects dont bother me i dont concentrate on them i concentrate on story. Many people ask me what do i find better King Kong 1933 or 2005 and i always say 1933 and they dont get it. Just because the effects are better doesn't mean the film is. And anyway the new king kong effects look dated already. But back to 50s sci fi movies they are the best apart from star wars originals, 50s sci fi is the best.

  • @Hypsan everything is made of speciel effects today *sigh* :(

  • @Hypsan indeed a good movie, and i do not laugh at this kind of movie, i just want to see more of them. you know why? cause every scifi movie now is so bloody serious. this and other movies like it are not so f....... serious. and those movies are from the 60s & 70s & 80s so it's more fun.

  • @Hypsan I am what you call a young person and I can say that I think the old movies are WAY better that what we have today

  • @Hypsan hey our parents are not that old xD

  • @Hypsan

I'm one of the 'young people", but I still like this a lot!

  • @Hypsan Hey though I am young I still appreciate the classics: The day the earth stood still, war of the worlds, forbidden planet, Citizen Kane and other classics though Citizen Kane isn't action. I do get kind of mad when people my age criticize the classics. They are cool.

  • @Hypsan I agree, don't mock our parent's sci-fi films. This kind of movies is far more charming just because of all the energy that has been put in to it. It is like comparing jazz to dubstep, Tarkovsky to Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich. It is this one, "Journey to the seventh Planet" and "The Beast From 20.000 Fathoms". They all score a perfect ten at some of today's youngsters.

  • @Hypsan Yes I understand, but I'm a 15 year old "kid" and I hate the computer age. It looks unrealistic and people in the movie business focus on that more than the plot and acting. I honestly enjoy the sci fi movies of the 50's and 60's. I love the non cgi. With their spaceship models and painted backrounds. My favorite show is Lost in Space. they made a movie out of it. its a cool though but they changed everything to the robot to cgi. kids will laugh at it but theres a few who appreciate it

  • @razrgood

When I was a kid, they played movie's like this on Sat. afternoon on TV and I, for one, KNEW a lot of it looked fake.

But, for the makers to just come-up with such cool, far-out stuff was the reward for watching.

It was all bizarre, funny and yet, extremely inventive .

You were asked to sort-of "go with it and believe".

CGI is great, but once the director let's it take-over it begins to look like a moving paintinng..

You're going to be a "Creator" not an "Observer".

    Be proud...

  • @Hypsan The science fiction of the past is superior to the science ficiton of today. Now it's all complete pants.

  • @Hypsan the only reason this movie is good is because mst3k did something with it, the movie plot sucks

  • @Hypsan im 15 and i love old films :D

  • @Dinobot2468 I love those films and i saw when i was 5 and today i still watching, i'm a superfreak xD

  • @Hypsan Aesthetically, this movie is adorable. It's just shitty in everything else. xD

  • Rex Reason is the brother of Rhodes Reason. Both had very successful Hollywood careers, but Rex got tired of show business and retired from acting in the early 60's.

  • This actually was one of the better scifi movies from back in those days.

  • REX REASON ????? Never heard of him !

  • Looks like televangelists from outer space.

  • Im going to get me one of those inorosaters.

  • anyone else stumble across this trying to find footage from the "this island earth festival" that happened on long island?

  • "Oh wow I AM Metaluna...."

  • 0:25 nice model lol

  • Clearly inspired by Ed Wood's fabulous film making.

  • Its very interesting that you said that because the same guy that restored rocket ship xm also restored ed wood movies wade williams [starlog magazine also issued a rocket ship xm sountrack album]

  • That monster with the claws scare the SSS out of me when I was a kid watching this on Channel 41.

  • I love the tag '2 1/2 years in the making!'

  • Love these 1950's sci-fi flicks...and actually this one rates high in my book. Good story line and special effects makes it in my collection. Agree Faye Domergue is VERY sexy to watch in her heels. Love that woodie wagon too...

  • I loved this movie when I was a kid in the 50's. It deserves to be remade with todays special effects.

  • You really think so?

  • "The two of you are beginning a strange journey"

    MAWWIAGE

  • Faith Domergue was a rather wooden actress, but for some reason I find her irresistibly sexy in a wet and dirty blouse and skirt.

  • Faith Domergue could act up a storm, and she is so pretty! Perfect body.

  • And what exactly is an "interocitor," or however you spell it? Apparently it's a TV set the size of a sofa-bed with a triangular screen and lots of extra knobs that don't do anything. But at least it comes with a handy self-destruct mechanism in case all the programs suck.

  • woof!

  • This island earth can be yours, if the price is right!

  • Mystery science theatre 3000

  • Hi, are there any full-length movies in Youtube or are they just scattered around in brief excerpts?

  • I think the interocitor was a kind of primitive computer and remote-control device. Which was way new in the 1950s. The laser- and maser-rays were not even invented until the late 1950s.

  • Funny now, but I did enjoy the movie.

Hmm... Metaluna under bombardment reminds me of Baghdad in either Gulf War.

The guy who plays the serious big-cheese "Monitor" was the goofy news photographer in the original "The Thing."

I like this for the "cool" scientist having his own jet plane and them driving an old "woody."

And of course, that everything complicated was an "interrocitor." I think "Team America, World Police" made fun of this with "Balmorification."

  • this movie isnt as bad as they said it was decent

  • Without minding the special effects of the time, I always thought it was a pretty good story. The 1st time I saw it held my curiosity long enough to enjoy this crazy flick.

  • This is why I'll never watched another MST3K...This Island Earth is NOT the usually b-grade crap they put on that show. It's a REAL science-fiction movie, with a great story and excellent special effects.

  • Cool story bro.

  • I thought this was a good movie. I honestly think it stands the test of time.

  • i just bought this on dvd for 5 bucks at afees its hilarious

  • Captive Earth People fight for their lives.....got to love that one.

  • ive never seen a film who is bad like this :D the best version from this film is the mystical science theater3000 version :D this must be on youtube not that silly movie

  • great way to spend a saturday afternoon

  • Watch out for the "MU-Tant"...

  • Say what you will, but this beats the Tom Cruise version of 'War of the Worlds.'

  • @flapdoodle64

    ## The1953 WotW was infinitely better than *that*

    TIE is rather good

  • @flapdoodle64 yep!

  • 2 1/2 years wasted

  • I saw this movie EVERY Halloween right after the kiddy parade in Keota, IA! ROFL!

  • Oh look! Orion is bankrupt

  • "Doesn't the fact that it's universal make it international." heheh, i can't resist!

  • Doesn't the fact that it's universal make it international." heheh

"our chair technology is light years ahead of yours!"

  • hahah, nice. "It's the amazing technicolor cheese wedge!"

  • hahah, nice. "It's the amazing technicolor cheese wedge

"That planet should comb its hair over its bald spot"

  • Who sneezed on the credits?

  • looks imaginative. i guess the bashing it gets is for the budget & "realism" of props?

  • i cant watch this without saying the lines from mst3k the movie

  • hahhahaha so true

  • One of my favorite films of that era.

As a fan of MST3K, I was proud that this film was picked to be viewed in it. Servo and Crow added to it, not insulted it.

Thumbs way up for this post, thank you.

  • They added to Godzilla vs Megalon, too.

  • Puts war of worlds with tom cruise to shame.

Sure the special effects are not as good, but you have a much more interesting story here.

  • damnit! i wish MY name was rex reason! hahah this film looks awesome, and yeah! those aliens DO look like bob barker! its a conspiracy!

  • Love those 1950s space ships - like the cars, big, streamlined with lots of chrome. Great film too.

  • dude those aliens look like bob barker

  • lol yea i just watched that again yesterday!!! MST3000 rocks.

  • I thought the part where they put the inter-ociter together was so cool. electronics has always fascinated me. Another scene where they test that capacitor for breakdown voltage and it explodes was cool too

  • What frightens me is the very real possibility that we will one day look back on films like the matrix and laugh at them like we laugh at this film.

  • lol so true!

  • matrix already is laughable. The CG is CRAP

  • Most people still don't notice.

  • and this movie doesnt look bad for something almost sixty years old

  • Dude the mu-tant was crap.

  • nope sorry this looks pretty good

  • He was wearing slacks!

  • I just ordered my Inter-ociter, I hope it gets here soon. Crow and Servo keep talking about theirs. Those guys are show offs anyway.

  • you all have got to watch " Mystery Science Theatre 3000 "

    XDDD

  • One of the best sci-fi films of all time.

  • it was intresting

    but the end

    was dumb

  • Another Science Fiction classic, and Faith Domergue was such a babe!

  • I would also like to build an interoictor. That would be awesome!

  • Where can I get the parts to build an Interossiter?

  • I love the coveralls you get to wear in outer space.

  • I'm sorry, but I can't help but think of Mystery Science Theater 3000 the Movie. It makes this movie MUCH more tolerable. Hilarious!

  • 2 1/2 years in the making!!

  • They obviously argues for 2 and a half on how adapt the authors short story and shot whatever was completed.
