Face facts you need to spend money on turning your home into a fort to keep bad people out. Unless you want to triple the cops and get used to being harassed by cops you will need to protect your home, vehicle and person. I have no problem if you need to shoot someone do so. There is a lot of bad dreams to live through if you do.
My friend had a neighbor kid (17) do the same thing.. he was testing her. She called the police and AFT heard on the scanner and got there first and caught the kid.. he had no reason to knock on the door. He said he was playing around.. at 1230am? She turn.ed het lights on he ran. She was lucky
For some reason I flashed back to an episode from Criminal Minds. Scarey stuff, and you are so right about giving them any oppertuntiy for entry. Glad it turned out to be someone you know so you arent left wondering. good video, and a good remind for all of us. Take care.
i think u showed great resolve n control during the episode. as u stated no confrontation eliminates harm for everyone. with so many variables potentially at play keep options open but have a specific plan to execute if things get busy. this is something i need to sharpen up for my family. i dont want to be a cowboy but if i have to be then i will do it right.
same thing i do on our sliding glass door that goes out to the back deck area, wedge the wood between the fram of the door, and the frame to the wall... however dont forget you have it there and yank it open :o/ do it hard enough and it wont open but throws it off the tracks, anyway glad to know you tow are safe, it could have been alot worse
Motion sensor initiated spot lights on the various approaches and those Costco infra red security cameras... Call 911 and just wait by the door. If there's a breach deal with the threat then... Have a heart to heart with Joe and all your boys that they are welcome any time but they'd better be sounding off with who they are or they might just get shot... Good training / learning event... Nothing like that cold shot of fear shooting through you to bring clarity on some issues...
Glad to hear everything turned out ok! Anyone who talking about similar situations and displaying bravado, and remarking about what they would do, are full of shit!
That,s good hes doing his job (the Dog) Its good to hear that your Family is ok. I to do the wood set up Hight and low. I know It runs thought my mind to glad you waited some, takes some time to break in to one. Gives you time to think!!
It's nice that is was a false alarm. The worst part of any situation is "Not Knowing". Not knowing results in stress and sometimes drastic measures that for the most part, are not thought through properly. Glad your safe and everything is ok. Take care.
@niceninemillimeter yeah, and that is regardless of advantage. He didn't stand a chance but the thought of having to out him down was not something anyone should want to experience
I've been in a bit of shit but I'll tell you nothing was worse than the time some guy was banging on my door at 3am calling the name of some girl he swore was in my house. I'm on the other side with an 870 begging him to listen to me in that he had the wrong house so I didn't have to vaporize him. It was about a half hour and felt like six. Never been so scared despite having every advantage
In my state, you are much better leaving the door shut, and when they attempt to break in, you shoot them BEFORE they get in. You are in a much better legal position if someone is forcing entry into the home, than if they are already in the home. Once they are in the home, you must prove that deadly force was being used against you. You cannot use deadly force to defend personal property.
Lighting is key, if someone walks in front of my house 2 200 watt flood lights pop on, same for my backyard, and infront of my garage, and its an intimidation factor and a big advantage, though a dog booming when they come a-knocking will take people by surprise. Glad nothing bad happened, stay safe.
@ConcernedPrepper I have a similar setup but it was off last night. Turns out it was just Joe from work who stopped by on his way home from drinking. But those lights will be activated tonight.
Why didnt you dial 911?? We had a similar situation. We have a designated safe room in my home where the bulk of my weapons and ammo are stored as well as an extremely easy cell phone that always is charged. Let the police do there job...if (God forbid) the intruder enters my home, the way i designed my home, he would be in big trouble by the time he got to my family. Not sure if you have Castle Doctrine in your state but if you are a stranger and enter my home uninvited..it wont be pretty.
@Shanester66 I'm in Florida. I probably should have called 911, but being it was Joe from work, I'm glad that I didn't, although it would have made for a funny story. But I tell you what, a cop being even just 3 minutes away means very little at the time. 3 minutes is a long time.
Excellent point on lighting, I agree on that. Just an FYI, talk to Landshark. He had some peeps driving around his house taking pictures and stuff. Maybe youtube hits?
@CaptainBerz that would be a bunch of dumb fucks looking to die.... plus better off to hit me since I am fat and there is no way I could hurt anyone according to all these youtube experts ... plus I have all the shit you can sell on the street and make cash.. :)
if it was home invasion they would have hit the place or he would have never seen them or they try a lot harder than sitting out front.. my guess is drunk dumbfuck looking for his friend or tail...
You should think about investing in some cameras. That way you could see who it was and maybe would have allowed you to better determine how to react.
since I know now your not going to shoot I will do it again tonight lol... I nominally let the boxer go do his job and if I hear a yelp I get up... I grab the mossberg for efffect and pistol for main weapon then start yelling shit about killing japs for fun etc I have had it happen a few times and one guy made it inside the house and found me on the couch before I had a dog..
You sound like that T.J. guy from Fox News who just let a kid die in his backyard after he was banging on the door asking for help, because he was scared. Something has feminized us for sure.
@YouSayYouWantA I considered that, and weighed it against the possibility of a strong arm robbery. My families defense was my primary concern at the time, it was all I had room to think about to tell you the truth.
What did Joe do to get kicked?/

some cameras outside might be comforting....if for no other reason then to document events. the pooch rates a special treat today.

Cameras have become very cheap. Hook a few up, you would have snap shots, or video, of the whole scenario.

Police usually serve warrants like that. Beating on your door at 3am.
