@drybog Actually it does have a Beatle ring to it, what I didn't say well is that It doesn't seem like a song the Beatles would want to use on one of their albums..
The nightingale kind of paints a country image so It's probably best left to the Everly's and I think he realized it.
Never heard of the Spongetones. I'll check em out.
@breezebro I never heard of them before either, but they have it posted. I listened to theirs again and picture Ringo singing it!! The Everly Bros did it justice--I do remember hearing it back then... Thanks for coming back
Uh, this is all Paul guys.... double tracked which makes it even sicker because he is mimicking the Everley's vocal sound WITH guitar, playing the bass and singing harmony on the second track, probably at home studio.
The reason his voice sounds funky is because he sped up the vocals to raise the pitch to the Everly's range. Paul does this a LOT - usually only by one or two percent high or low to achieve an effect, but here, he was trying to match his voice to theirs. This is a well-known demo, definitely by McCartney.
How does he do it?! The guy is an absolute musical visionary, the words and the melody are perfect, change one thing and te song looses something. 2:10 perfect!
I've got pretty good ears, and I'm sure it's Paul & Linda recording VERY casually on a portable recorder. The playback is slightly offspeed. The Everly hit was in 1984, so this was probably recorded a year or two before that.

Total crap,cant stand the beatles.the everly brothers done a great version of this.the beatles wrote songs?Doesnt mean they could sing them.They sound like JEDWARD......
Wonder what female voice that is singing the harmonies with Paul. Ppl would assume it was Linda but I'm not certain. Anyone? Or is it Paul doing the harmonies with himself?
I love this. As 'rough' as it is, I like McCartney's demo version of the song better than the Everly Brothers. Especially the change in harmony and tempo at the end which the Everly's didn't do. Thanks for posting.
have a copy of this my self, it would have been great if paul had took it in to the studio, and gave iot the works , everly brothers did a great job though, 5*****
Nice song but I can see why he gave it to the Everly's, it's their kind of song, not one
very Beatle like.

@breezebro The Spongetone's version is more Beatle-like I think...

Damn right it's Paul. Highly underrated song, he gave it to the Everlys, only better two-part harmonizers than Lennon-McCartney

Um, I am very skeptical that this is Paul singing. It sounds nothing like him.

This is the way the song should sound, the Everly Brothers overproduced it, this is absolutely brilliant.

Heard another demo where he does not over dub. This one sounds like he is imitating the Everly's to get a feel of how they would sing it. Ed
