  • being a blizzard fanboy ofcourse I've heard of this game but never played it.. looks great.. weird soundtrack for sure

  • @Tyrhandrer A game that seems to mimic the Lost Vikings would be Trine. It's a PC game. I enjoyed it.

  • @blacklily8 im going to need to try and find this game, love it!! Great video Matt!

  • Virtual Console?

  • I don't know who thought up having vikings fight aliens, but they are absolutely brilliant!

  • i never heard about this game, but it looks cool :D

.. by the way, where is Matt Chat episode 6?

  • The Lost Vikings has always been one of my best games to play and after much hard work on my super Nintendo I managed to finish it, also Matt have you played Lost Vikings 2 at tall and what are your thoughts on it?

  • Looking at this game lets me know where the artwork for dwarves in warcraft comes from

  • Asian wives waiting # lushfmlk.info #

  • Brings back memories. This was one of the first games I ever played

  • I've never played this game before but its looks great, I like how it makes you think rather than just being a bog standard platform game. I'll be keeping an eye out for the Mega Drive version! Nice one Matt :)

  • Now this game brings back memories especially the pump'in soundtrack ^_^

  • Never heard of this one. Diggin' the music at the intro screen.

    Another great review Matt!

  • is the guy that made the music from scandinavia?

  • There is a DOS version of the game, though you'd have to run DOS BOX to get it working properly.

  • I used to be a huge SNES collector but had to sell my collection due to money troubles but this is one of my best games of all time. A real classic. I will get it back one day (once I have finished my GameCube collection) haha cheers ;o)

  • @TimwiTerby shut up man. noone wants to hear it. the point of this series is to look into the history of these games, as well as the games themselves. and if you want to talk about the history, you need to talk about the games the developers made previously and afterwards. if you dont like it then GTFO.

  • I'm proud to have a GBA versio of this classic...Yeah to Portable Vikings :P !!!

  • It seems you keep reviewing great classics i never played...

Well actually I did play the game recently at a friend's house but only for a short while.

it is a testament to the quality of Blizzard's developers that the game still grabs you for hours to this day.

  • Thanks for another great review--I've never had this on my Amiga, but it looks fun. I'd better add this one to my list of games that I need to try.

  • Definitely worth the time, at least in my opinion! :)

  • Excellent commentary once again Matt thx!! This game looks SOOO good XP I think I might have to download it from for my emulator (I'm just a little too young to have owned these games/consoles). Oh and I saw that Eric the Swift's fav band was Rush, Rush ftw!! XD

  • Have fun!

  • Great game and cool video :)

  • Thanks!

  • Great review, Matt! You really do have impeccable taste! Every one a classic so far. I can't wait to see what's next.

  • Thanks, thejoyofsticks. I'm going to try covering spasim for the PLATO system. We'll see how it goes, though. ;)

  • Thanks Matt for doing a Chat on one of my favorite games. It seems to me that Blizzard was better back in the day when they made games like this. Now they seem so consumed with World of Warcraft. I guess they have a new Starcraft coming out soon, but I wish they would remake Lost Viking instead.

  • They are making a new Diablo game and a new Starcraft title. Should be lots of fun. No surprise though that they're focusing on WoW--it's a huge profit for them.

  • Yeah I am the same number6 you know from Monroeworld. I go by entexman on Monroeworld forums now. You remember the whole forum shutdown fiasco I am sure, I had to create a new account so I thought I would use the "entex" brand name, which was one of my favorite handheld game manufacturers back in the 1980's, as my new user name. Sorry for the confusion. Keep the videos coming. Your videos are the highest quality I have seen on youtube with respect to video games. I am a huge fan of your work.

  • Ah, yes, I remember you well. Good to see you again!

  • Awesome review Matt! I remember beating this game back in the day (1992). This game is one of my all time favorites. Thanks for the review again! You rock!

  • Thanks, number6. Are you by any chance the #6 I used to know back in the day? Regardless, thanks for the support and stay tuned.

  • Nice review. I enjoyed the game too, even though I played the Genesis version.

  • Thanks! How does the Genesis version compare to this one?

  • Well it's been a few years since I've played it, so I can't really do an accurate comparison, but this looks almost exactly like I remember the Genesis version. So they're probably very close.

  • Another cool video in the Matt Chat series!

But, I didn't care much for Lost Vikings, as I didn't care much for Metroid (featured in a previous Matt Chat). Perhaps it's because these games require something called "brain cells" to play.

As usual, though, this Matt Chat makes me wonder what fun I missed out on back in the day because I didn't give this game much of a chance.

  • Thanks, Rob. I love games that challenge me mentally as well as physically, though I like them best when they gradually build up rather than hit you all at once. Lost Vikings does a good job of that.

  • Very Good :) Thank you very much for uploading this :) Please keep these videos coming :)

  • You're welcome!

  • Damn! ROCK N RACING WAS awesome to, that needs to be updated along with ROAD RASH dammit!

  • I agree. Surely someone has done something like it, though? I'm not very familiar with the racing genre.

  • I liked your warmongering send-off! To hell with settlement and agriculture. Conquest! Pillage!

  • Heheh, thanks, Marcus!

  • Very nice review of an awesome game.

I also played the Amiga version first... it's too bad no AGA version was released, the A500 version lacked many of the backdrops.

I have a longplay of this game up on my channel, btw :)

  • I agree; an AGA version would have been awesome. Definitely a missed opportunity; would have been ideal for the CD32.

  • That WOULD of been awesome!

  • There's a GBA version, but I'd like to know if there are plans for the Virtual Console. You can always play it via emulation.

  • It would be great to see this game on the Virtual Console, always wanted to play it.
